Then they told Dawid, saying, Behold, the Pelishtim fight against Qeilah, and they rob the threshingfloors. |

Therefore

יָהוֶה,°
saying,°°
Shall I go°°°
and smite°°
these°
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים?°
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
said°°
unto°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
Go,°°°
and smite°°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,°
and save°°°
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה.° |

23:2
Therefore Dawid enquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go and smite these Pelishtim? And Yahweh said unto Dawid, Go, and smite the Pelishtim, and save Qeilah. |

And Dawid's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Yehudah: how much more then if we come to Qeilah against the armies of the Pelishtim? |

יָהוֶה°
yet°
again.°°
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
answered°°
him and said,°°
Arise,°°
go down°°
to
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה;°
for°

will deliver°°°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
into thine hand.° |

Then Dawid enquired of Yahweh yet again. And Yahweh answered him and said, Arise, go down to Qeilah; for I will deliver the Pelishtim into thine hand. |
|

and fought°°
with the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,°
and brought away°°°
their cattle,°
and smote°°
them with a great°
slaughter.°

the inhabitants°°
of
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה.° |

So Dawid and his men went to Qeilah, and fought with the Pelishtim, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So Dawid saved the inhabitants of Qeilah. |

And it came to pass,°
when
´Evyäŧär
אֶביָתָר°
the son°
of
´Áçîmeleȼ
אֲחִימֶלֶך°
fled°°
to°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד°
to
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה,°
[that] he came down°°
[with] an ephod°
in his hand.° |

And it came to pass, when Evyathar the son of Achimelekh fled to Dawid to Qeilah, [that] he came down [with] an ephod in his hand. |

23:7 ¶
And it was told°°

that°

דָּוִד°
was come°°
to
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה.°
And
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
said,°°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
hath delivered°°
him into mine hand;°
for°
he is shut in,°°
by entering°°
into a town°
that hath gates°
and bars.° |

23:7 ¶
And it was told Shaul that Dawid was come to Qeilah. And Shaul said, Elohim hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars. |

And Shaul called all the people together to war, to go down to Qeilah, to besiege Dawid and his men. |

23:9 ¶
And

secretly practised°°
mischief°
against°
him; and he said°°
to°
´Evyäŧär
אֶביָתָר°
the priest,°
Bring hither°°
the ephod.° |

23:9 ¶
And Dawid knew that Shaul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Evyathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod. |

23:10
Then said°°

דָּוִד,°
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
thy servant°
hath certainly°°
heard°°
that°
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
seeketh°°
to come°°
to°
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה,°
to destroy°°
the city°
for my sake.° |

23:10
Then said Dawid, O Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, thy servant hath certainly heard that Shaul seeketh to come to Qeilah, to destroy the city for my sake. |
|
23:11
Will the men°
of
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה°
deliver me up°°
into his hand?°
will
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
come down,°°
as°
thy servant°
hath heard?°°
O
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
I beseech thee,°
tell°°
thy servant.°
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
said,°°
He will come down.°° |

Will the men of Qeilah deliver me up into his hand? will Shaul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And Yahweh said, He will come down. |

23:12

Will the men°

קְעִילָה°
deliver°°
me and my men°°
into the hand°
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל?°
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
said,°°
They will deliver [thee] up.°° |

23:12
Then said Dawid, Will the men of Qeilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Shaul? And Yahweh said, They will deliver [thee] up. |
|
23:13 ¶
Then

[which were] about six°
hundred,°°
arose°°
and departed°°
out of
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה,°°
and went°°
whithersoever°
they could go.°°
And it was told°°

דָּוִד°
was escaped°°
from
Kæ`îlà
קְעִילָה;°°
and he forbare°°
to go forth.°° |

23:13 ¶
Then Dawid and his men, [which were] about six hundred, arose and departed out of Qeilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Shaul that Dawid was escaped from Qeilah; and he forbare to go forth. |

in a mountain°
in the wilderness°

And Dawid abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Zif. And Shaul sought him every day, but Elohim delivered him not into his hand. |
|
23:15
And

was come out°°
to seek°°°
his life:°
and
Däwiđ

[was] in the wilderness°
of
Zîf
זִיף°
in a wood.° |

And Dawid saw that Shaul was come out to seek his life: and Dawid [was] in the wilderness of Zif in a wood. |

And

into the wood,°
and strengthened°°°
his hand°

And Yehonathan Shaul's son arose, and went to Dawid into the wood, and strengthened his hand in Elohim. |

23:17
And he said°°
unto°
him, Fear°°
not:°
for°
the hand°
of
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
my father°
shall not°
find°°
thee; and thou°
shalt be king°°
over°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and I°
shall be°
next°
unto thee; and that°
also°
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
my father°
knoweth.°° |

23:17
And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Shaul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Yisrael, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Shaul my father knoweth. |

And they two°

a covenant°
before°

in the wood,°

יְהוֹנָתָן°

to his house.° |

And they two made a covenant before Yahweh: and Dawid abode in the wood, and Yehonathan went to his house. |

23:19 ¶
Then came up°°

Zifîm

גִּבעָה,°
saying,°°
Doth not°

דָּוִד°
hide°°
himself°
with°
us in strong holds°
in the wood,°
in the hill°

חֲכִילָה,°
which°
[is] on the south°°

יְשִׁימֹן?° |

23:19 ¶
Then came up the Zifim to Shaul to Givah, saying, Doth not Dawid hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Chakhilah, which [is] on the south of Yeshimon? |

23:20
Now°
therefore, O king,°
come down°°
according to all°
the desire°
of thy soul°
to come down;°°
and our part [shall be] to deliver°°
him into the king's°
hand.° |

And Shaul said, Blessed [be] ye of Yahweh; for ye have compassion on me. |

I pray you,°
prepare°°
yet,°
and know°°
and see°°°
his place°
where°
his haunt°
is,°
[and] who°
hath seen°°
him there:°
for°
it is told°°°
me [that] he°
dealeth very°°
subtilly.°° |

Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, [and] who hath seen him there: for it is told me [that] he dealeth very subtilly. |

See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Yehudah. |

And they arose,°°

but

and his men°°
[were] in the wilderness°
of
Mä`ôn
מָעוֹן,°
in the plain°
on°
the south°

יְשִׁימֹן.° |

And they arose, and went to Zif before Shaul: but Dawid and his men [were] in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Yeshimon. |

to seek°°
[him]. And they told°°

wherefore he came down°°
into a rock,°

in the wilderness°

[that], he pursued°°

Shaul also and his men went to seek [him]. And they told Dawid: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Shaul heard [that], he pursued after Dawid in the wilderness of Maon. |

And Shaul went on this side of the mountain, and Dawid and his men on that side of the mountain: and Dawid made haste to get away for fear of Shaul; for Shaul and his men compassed Dawid and his men round about to take them. |

23:27 ¶
But there came°°
a messenger°
unto°

שָׁאוּל,°
saying,°°
Haste°°
thee, and come;°°°
for°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
have invaded°°°
the land.° |

23:27 ¶
But there came a messenger unto Shaul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Pelishtim have invaded the land. |

Wherefore

returned°°
from pursuing°°°
after°
Däwiđ
דָּוִד,°
and went°°°
against°°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים:°
therefore°°
they called°°
that°
place°
Sela` Hammaçlækôŧ
סֶלַע־הַמַּחלְקוֹת.°°° |

Wherefore Shaul returned from pursuing after Dawid, and went against the Pelishtim: therefore they called that place Sela-Hammachleqoth. |

23:29 ¶
And

went up°°
from thence,°°
and dwelt°°
in strong holds°
at
`Ên Geđî
עֵין־גֶּדִי.° |

23:29 ¶
And Dawid went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-Gedi. |
