Shaul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Yisrael, |

Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;°°
[whereof] two thousand°
were°
with°
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
in
Miȼmäŝ
מִכמָשׂ°
and in mount°
Bêŧ ´Ël
בֵּית־אֵל,°
and a thousand°
were°
with°
Yæhônäŧän
יְהוֹנָתָן°°
in
Giv`à
גִּבעָה°
of
Binyämîn
בִּניָמִין:°
and the rest°
of the people°
he sent°°
every man°
to his tent.° |

Shaul chose him three thousand [men] of Yisrael; [whereof] two thousand were with Shaul in Mikhmas and in mount Beth-El, and a thousand were with Yehonathan in Givah of Binyamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent. |

[was] in

and the
Pælištîm

the trumpet°
throughout all°
the land,°
saying,°°
Let the
`Ivrîm
עִברִים°
hear.°° |

And Yehonathan smote the garrison of the Pelishtim that [was] in Geva, and the Pelishtim heard [of it]. And Shaul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Ivrim hear. |

[that]

שָׁאוּל°
had smitten°°°
a garrison°
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,°
and [that]
Yiŝrä´ël

was had in abomination°°
with the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים.°
And the people°
were called together°°
after°
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
to
Gilgäl
גִּלגָּל.° |

And all Yisrael heard say [that] Shaul had smitten a garrison of the Pelishtim, and [that] Yisrael also was had in abomination with the Pelishtim. And the people were called together after Shaul to Gilgal. |

13:5 ¶
And the

gathered themselves together°°
to fight°°
with°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
thirty°
thousand°
chariots,°
and six°
thousand°
horsemen,°
and people°
as the sand°
which°
[is] on°
the sea°
shore°
in multitude:°
and they came up,°°
and pitched°°
in
Miȼmäŝ
מִכמָשׂ,°
eastward°
from
Bêŧ ´Äwen
בֵּית־אָוֶן.° |

13:5 ¶
And the Pelishtim gathered themselves together to fight with Yisrael, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which [is] on the sea shore in multitude: and they came up, and pitched in Mikhmas, eastward from Beth-Awen. |

When the men°

יִשׂרָאֵל°
saw°°
that°
they were in a strait,°°
(for°
the people°
were distressed,)°°
then the people°
did hide°°
themselves°
in caves,°
and in thickets,°
and in rocks,°
and in high places,°
and in pits.° |

When the men of Yisrael saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits. |
|
13:7
And [some of] the
`Ivrîm
עִברִים°
went over°°°
Yardën
יַרדֵּן°
to the land°
of
Gäđ
גָּד°
and
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד.°
As for
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל,°
he [was] yet°
in
Gilgäl
גִּלגָּל,°
and all°
the people°
followed°
him trembling.°° |

13:7
And [some of] the Ivrim went over Yarden to the land of Gad and Gilad. As for Shaul, he [was] yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. |
|
13:8 ¶
And he tarried°°°°
seven°
days,°
according to the set time°
that°
Šæmû´ël
שְׁמוּאֵל°
[had appointed]: but
Šæmû´ël
שְׁמוּאֵל°
came°°
not°
to
Gilgäl
גִּלגָּל;°
and the people°
were scattered°°
from°°
him. |

13:8 ¶
And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Shemuel [had appointed]: but Shemuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. |
|
13:9
And

שָׁאוּל°
said,°°
Bring hither°°
a burnt offering°
to°
me, and peace offerings.°
And he offered°°
the burnt offering.° |

And Shaul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. |

13:10
And it came to pass,°
that as soon as he had made an end°°
of offering°°
the burnt offering,°
behold,°

שְׁמוּאֵל°
came;°°
and
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
went out°°
to meet°°
him, that he might salute°°
him. |

And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Shemuel came; and Shaul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. |

hast thou done?°°

said,°°
Because°
I saw°°
that°
the people°
were scattered°°
from°°
me, and [that] thou°
camest°°

appointed,°

פְּלִשׁתִּים°
gathered themselves together°°
at
Miȼmäŝ
מִכמָשׂ;° |

And Shemuel said, What hast thou done? And Shaul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and [that] thou camest not within the days appointed, and [that] the Pelishtim gathered themselves together at Mikhmas; |

Therefore said°°
I, The
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
will come down°°
now°
upon°
me to
Gilgäl
גִּלגָּל,°
and I have not°
made supplication°°
unto°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:°
I forced°°
myself°
therefore, and offered°°
a burnt offering.° |

Therefore said I, The Pelishtim will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto Yahweh: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. |

Thou hast done foolishly:°°
thou hast not°

the commandment°

Yähwè

יָהוֶה°
have established°°°
thy kingdom°
upon°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
for°
ever.°° |

And Shemuel said to Shaul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of Yahweh thy Elohim, which he commanded thee: for now would Yahweh have established thy kingdom upon Yisrael for ever. |

But now°
thy kingdom°
shall not°
continue:°°

יָהוֶה°
hath sought°°
him a man°
after his own heart,°
and
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
hath commanded°°
him [to be] captain°
over°
his people,°
because°
thou hast not°
kept°°
[that]°
which°

יָהוֶה°

But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Yahweh hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Yahweh hath commanded him [to be] captain over his people, because thou hast not kept [that] which Yahweh commanded thee. |

and gat him up°°

[that were] present°°
with°
him, about six°
hundred°

And Shemuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Givah of Binyamin. And Shaul numbered the people [that were] present with him, about six hundred men. |

And Shaul, and Yehonathan his son, and the people [that were] present with them, abode in Givah of Binyamin: but the Pelishtim encamped in Mikhmas. |

13:17 ¶
And the spoilers°°
came out°°
of the camp°°
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
in three°
companies:°
one°
company°
turned°°
unto°
the way°
[that leadeth to]
`Ofrà
עָפרָה,°
unto°
the land°
of
Šû`äl
שׁוּעָל:° |

13:17 ¶
And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Pelishtim in three companies: one company turned unto the way [that leadeth to] Ofrah, unto the land of Shual: |

And another°
company°
turned°°
the way°
[to]
Bêŧ Çôrôn
בֵּית־חוֹרוֹן:°
and another°
company°
turned°°
[to] the way°
of the border°
that looketh°°
to°
the valley°
of
Xævö`îm
צְבֹעִים°
toward the wilderness.° |

13:18
And another company turned the way [to] Beth-Choron: and another company turned [to] the way of the border that looketh to the valley of Tzevoim toward the wilderness. |
|
13:19 ¶
Now there was no°
smith°
found°°
throughout all°
the land°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל:°
for°
the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
said,°°
Lest°
the
`Ivrîm
עִברִים°
make°°
[them] swords°
or°
spears:° |

13:19 ¶
Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Yisrael: for the Pelishtim said, Lest the Ivrim make [them] swords or spears: |
|
13:20
But all°
the
Yiŝræ´ëlîm
יִשׂרְאֵלִים°
went down°°
to the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים,°
to sharpen°°
every man°°
his share,°
and his coulter,°
and his axe,°
and his mattock.° |
|
13:20
But all the Yisreelim went down to the Pelishtim, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock. |
|
13:21
Yet they had°
a file°°
for the mattocks,°
and for the coulters,°
and for the forks,°°
and for the axes,°
and to sharpen°°
the goads.° |

13:21
Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads. |
|
13:22
So it came to pass°
in the day°
of battle,°
that there was neither°
sword°
nor spear°
found°°
in the hand°
of any°
of the people°
that°
[were] with°
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
and
Yæhônäŧän
יְהוֹנָתָן:°°
but with
Šä´ûl
שָׁאוּל°
and with
Yæhônäŧän
יְהוֹנָתָן°°
his son°
was there found.°° |

13:22
So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that [were] with Shaul and Yehonathan: but with Shaul and with Yehonathan his son was there found. |

13:23
And the garrison°
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּים°
went out°°
to°
the passage°
of
Miȼmäŝ
מִכמָשׂ.° |

13:23
And the garrison of the Pelishtim went out to the passage of Mikhmas. |
