Now the Pelishtim gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Sokhoh, which [belongeth] to Yehudah, and pitched between Sokhoh and Azeqah, in Efes-Dammim. |

for you, and let him come down°°

And he stood and cried unto the armies of Yisrael, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set [your] battle in array? [am] not I a Pelishti, and ye servants to Shaul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. |

me, and to kill°°
me, then will we be°
your servants:°
but if°

against him, and kill°°

And Dawid spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Pelishti, and taketh away the reproach from Yisrael? for who [is] this uncircumcised Pelishti, that he should defy the armies of the living Elohim? |

And Eliav his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliav's anger was kindled against Dawid, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. |

Then said Dawid to the Pelishti, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of Yahweh Tzevaoth, the Elohim of the armies of Yisrael, whom thou hast defied. |

This day will Yahweh deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Pelishtim this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is an Elohim in Yisrael. |

And it came to pass, when the Pelishti arose, and came and drew nigh to meet Dawid, that Dawid hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Pelishti. |
