 22:1 ¶ Däwiđ דָּוִד° therefore departed°°° thence,°° and escaped°° to° the cave° `Áđulläm עֲדֻלָּם:° and when his brethren° and all° his father's° house° heard°° [it], they went down°° thither° to° him.

 22:1 ¶ Dawid therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard [it], they went down thither to him.

 22:2 And every° one° [that was] in distress,° and every° one° that° [was] in debt,°° and every° one° [that was] discontented,°° gathered°° themselves° unto° him; and he became° a captain° over° them: and there were° with° him about four° hundred° men.°

 22:2 And every one [that was] in distress, and every one that [was] in debt, and every one [that was] discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

 22:3 ¶ And Däwiđ דָּוִד° went°°° thence°° to Mixpà מִצפָּה° of Mô´äv מוֹאָב:° and he said°° unto° the king° of Mô´äv מוֹאָב,° Let my father° and my mother,° I pray thee,° come forth,°° [and be] with° you, till°° I know°° what° ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° will do°° for me.

 22:3 ¶ And Dawid went thence to Mitzpah of Moav: and he said unto the king of Moav, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, [and be] with you, till I know what Elohim will do for me.

 22:4 And he brought°° them° before° the king° of Mô´äv מוֹאָב:° and they dwelt°° with° him all° the while° that Däwiđ דָּוִד° was° in the hold.°

 22:4 And he brought them before the king of Moav: and they dwelt with him all the while that Dawid was in the hold.

 22:5 ¶ And the prophet° Gäđ גָּד° said°° unto° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° Abide°° not° in the hold;° depart,°°° and get°° thee into the land° of Yæhûđà יְהוּדָה.° Then Däwiđ דָּוִד° departed,°°° and came°° into the forest° of Çäreŧ חָרֶת.°

 22:5 ¶ And the prophet Gad said unto Dawid, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Yehudah. Then Dawid departed, and came into the forest of Chareth.

 22:6 ¶ When Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° heard°° that° Däwiđ דָּוִד° was discovered,°° and the men°° that° [were] with° him, (now Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° abode°° in Giv`à גִּבעָה° under° a tree° in Rämà רָמָה,° having his spear° in his hand,° and all° his servants° [were] standing°° about° him;)

 22:6 ¶ When Shaul heard that Dawid was discovered, and the men that [were] with him, (now Shaul abode in Givah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants [were] standing about him;)

 22:7 Then Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto his servants° that stood°° about° him, Hear° now,°°° ye Benyæmînîm בֶּניְמִינִים;° will the son° of Yišay יִשַׁי° give°° every one° of you fields° and vineyards,° [and] make°° you all° captains° of thousands,° and captains° of hundreds;°

 22:7 Then Shaul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benyeminim; will the son of Yishay give every one of you fields and vineyards, [and] make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;

 22:8 That° all° of you have conspired°° against° me, and [there is] none° that sheweth°°°° me that my son° hath made a league°° with° the son° of Yišay יִשַׁי,° and [there is] none° of° you that is sorry°° for° me, or sheweth°°° unto°°° me that° my son° hath stirred up°°° my servant° against° me, to lie in wait,°° as at this° day?°

 22:8 That all of you have conspired against me, and [there is] none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Yishay, and [there is] none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

 22:9 ¶ Then answered°° Dö´ëq דֹּאֵג° the ´Áđômî אֲדוֹמִי,° which° was set°° over° the servants° of Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל,° and said,°° I saw°°° the son° of Yišay יִשַׁי° coming°° to Növ נֹב,° to° ´Áçîmeleȼ אֲחִימֶלֶך° the son° of ´Áçiţûv אֲחִטוּב.°

 22:9 ¶ Then answered Doeg the Adomi, which was set over the servants of Shaul, and said, I saw the son of Yishay coming to Nov, to Achimelekh the son of Achituv.

 22:10 And he enquired°° of Yähwè יָהוֶה° for him, and gave°° him victuals,° and gave°° him the sword° of Golyäŧ גָּליָת° the Pælištî פְּלִשׁתִּי.°

 22:10 And he enquired of Yahweh for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Golyath the Pelishti.

 22:11 Then the king° sent°° to call°°° ´Áçîmeleȼ אֲחִימֶלֶך° the priest,° the son° of ´Áçiţûv אֲחִטוּב,° and all° his father's° house,° the priests° that° [were] in Növ נֹב:° and they came°° all° of them to° the king.°

 22:11 Then the king sent to call Achimelekh the priest, the son of Achituv, and all his father's house, the priests that [were] in Nov: and they came all of them to the king.

 22:12 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said,°° Hear°° now,° thou son° of ´Áçiţûv אֲחִטוּב.° And he answered,°° Here° I [am], my ´áđôn אֲדוֹן.°

 22:12 And Shaul said, Hear now, thou son of Achituv. And he answered, Here I [am], my adon.

 22:13 And Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° said°° unto° him, Why° have ye conspired°° against° me, thou° and the son° of Yišay יִשַׁי,° in that thou hast given°° him bread,° and a sword,° and hast enquired°° of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° for him, that he should rise°° against° me, to lie in wait,°° as at this° day?°

 22:13 And Shaul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Yishay, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired of Elohim for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

 22:14 Then ´Áçîmeleȼ אֲחִימֶלֶך° answered°°° the king,° and said,°° And who° [is so] faithful°° among all° thy servants° as Däwiđ דָּוִד,° which is the king's° son in law,° and goeth°° at° thy bidding,° and is honourable°° in thine house?°

 22:14 Then Achimelekh answered the king, and said, And who [is so] faithful among all thy servants as Dawid, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?

 22:15 Did I then° begin°° to enquire°° of ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִים° for him? be it far° from me:° let not° the king° impute°° [any] thing° unto his servant,° [nor] to all° the house° of my father:° for° thy servant° knew°° nothing°° of all° this,° less° or° more.°

 22:15 Did I then begin to enquire of Elohim for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute [any] thing unto his servant, [nor] to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.

 22:16 And the king° said,°° Thou shalt surely°° die,°° ´Áçîmeleȼ אֲחִימֶלֶך,° thou,° and all° thy father's° house.°

 22:16 And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Achimelekh, thou, and all thy father's house.

 22:17 ¶ And the king° said°° unto the footmen°° that stood°° about° him, Turn,°° and slay°° the priests° of Yähwè יָהוֶה;° because° their hand° also° [is] with° Däwiđ דָּוִד,° and because° they knew°° when° he° fled,°° and did not° shew°°°° it to me.° But the servants° of the king° would°° not° put forth°°° their hand° to fall°° upon the priests° of Yähwè יָהוֶה.°

 22:17 ¶ And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Yahweh; because their hand also [is] with Dawid, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Yahweh.

 22:18 And the king° said°° to Dö´ëq דֹּאֵג,° Turn°° thou,° and fall°° upon the priests.° And Dö´ëq דֹּאֵג° the ´Áđômî אֲדוֹמִי° turned,°° and he° fell°° upon the priests,° and slew°° on that° day° fourscore° and five° persons° that did wear°° a linen° ephod.°

 22:18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Adomi turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

 22:19 And Növ נֹב,° the city° of the priests,° smote°° he with the edge° of the sword,° both men°° and women,° children°° and sucklings,°° and oxen,° and asses,° and sheep,° with the edge° of the sword.°

 22:19 And Nov, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

 22:20 ¶ And one° of the sons° of ´Áçîmeleȼ אֲחִימֶלֶך° the son° of ´Áçiţûv אֲחִטוּב,° named° ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר,° escaped,°° and fled°° after° Däwiđ דָּוִד.°

 22:20 ¶ And one of the sons of Achimelekh the son of Achituv, named Evyathar, escaped, and fled after Dawid.

 22:21 And ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר° shewed°° Däwiđ דָּוִד° that° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל° had slain°°° Yähwè's יָהוֶה° priests.°

 22:21 And Evyathar shewed Dawid that Shaul had slain Yahweh's priests.

 22:22 And Däwiđ דָּוִד° said°° unto ´Evyäŧär אֶביָתָר,° I knew°° [it] that° day,° when° Dö´ëq דֹּאֵג° the ´Áđômî אֲדוֹמִי° [was] there,° that° he would surely°° tell°° Šä´ûl שָׁאוּל:° I° have occasioned°° [the death] of all° the persons° of thy father's° house.°

 22:22 And Dawid said unto Evyathar, I knew [it] that day, when Doeg the Adomi [was] there, that he would surely tell Shaul: I have occasioned [the death] of all the persons of thy father's house.

 22:23 Abide°° thou with° me, fear°° not:° for° he that° seeketh°°° my life° seeketh°°° thy life:° but° with° me thou° [shalt be] in safeguard.°

 22:23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou [shalt be] in safeguard.
