 8:1 ¶
Now Elisha had spoken unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for Jehovah hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. |
|
 8:1 ¶
Then spakeºº
Elishaº
untoº
the woman,º
whoseºº
sonº
he had restored to life,ºº
saying,ºº
Arise,ºº
and goººº
thouº
and thine household,º
and sojournºº
wheresoeverº
thou canst sojourn:ºº
forº
the LORDº
hath calledºº
for a famine;º
and it shall alsoº
comeºº
uponº
the landº
sevenº
years.º |
 8:2
And the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God; and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. |
|
 8:2
And the womanº
arose,ºº
and didºº
after the sayingº
of the manº
of God:º
and sheº
wentººº
with her household,º
and sojournedºº
in the landº
of the Philistinesº
sevenº
years.º |
 8:3
And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. |
|
 8:3
And it came to passº
at the sevenº
years'º
end,ºº
that the womanº
returnedºº
out of the landºº
of the Philistines:º
and she went forthºº
to cryºº
untoº
the kingº
forº
her houseº
and forº
her land.º |
 8:4
Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. |
|
 8:4
And the kingº
talkedºº
withº
Gehaziº
the servantº
of the manº
of God,º
saying,ºº
Tellºº
me, I pray thee,ºº
allº
the great thingsº
thatº
Elishaº
hath done.ºº |
 8:5
And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him that was dead, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. |
|
 8:5
And it came to pass,º
as heº
was tellingºº
the kingºº
howº
he had restoredºº
a dead bodyºº
to life,ºººº
that, behold,º
the woman,º
whoseºº
sonº
he had restored to life,ºº
criedºº
toº
the kingº
forº
her houseº
and forº
her land.º
And Gehaziº
said,ºº
My lord,º
O king,º
thisº
[is] the woman,º
and thisº
[is] her son,º
whomº
Elishaº
restored to life.ºº |
 8:6
And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now. |
|
 8:6
And when the kingº
askedºº
the woman,º
she toldºº
him. So the kingº
appointedºº
unto her a certainº
officer,º
saying,ºº
Restoreººº
allº
thatº
[was] hers, and allº
the fruitsº
of the fieldº
since the dayºº
that she leftººº
the land,º
even untilº
now.º |
 8:7 ¶
And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither. |
|
 8:7 ¶
And Elishaº
cameºº
to Damascus;º
and Benhadadº
the kingº
of Syriaº
was sick;ºº
and it was toldºº
him, saying,ºº
The manº
of Godº
is comeºº
hither.ºº |
 8:8
And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thy hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of Jehovah by him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? |
|
 8:8
And the kingº
saidºº
untoº
Hazael,º
Takeºº
a presentº
in thine hand,º
and go,ººº
meetººº
the manº
of God,º
and enquireººº
of the LORDº
byºº
him, saying,ºº
Shall I recoverºº
of this disease?ººº |
 8:9
So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Benhadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness? |
|
 8:9
So Hazaelº
wentººº
to meetººº
him, and tookºº
a presentº
withº
him,º
even of everyº
good thingº
of Damascus,º
fortyº
camels'º
burden,º
and cameºº
and stoodºº
beforeº
him, and said,ºº
Thy sonº
Benhadadº
kingº
of Syriaº
hath sentºº
me toº
thee, saying,ºº
Shall I recoverºº
of this disease?ººº |
 8:10
And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou shalt surely recover; howbeit Jehovah hath showed me that he shall surely die. |
|
 8:10
And Elishaº
saidºº
untoº
him, Go,ººº
sayºº
unto him, Thou mayest certainlyºº
recover:ºº
howbeit the LORDº
hath shewedºº
me thatº
he shall surelyºº
die.ºº |
 8:11
And he settled his countenance stedfastly [upon him], until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. |
|
 8:11
And he settledººº
his countenanceº
stedfastly,ºº
untilº
he was ashamed:ºº
and the manº
of Godº
wept.ºº |
 8:12
And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strongholds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child. |
|
 8:12
And Hazaelº
said,ºº
Whyº
weepethºº
my lord?º
And he answered,ºº
Becauseº
I knowººº
the evilº
thatº
thou wilt doºº
unto the childrenº
of Israel:º
their strong holdsº
wilt thou setºº
on fire,º
and their young menº
wilt thou slayºº
with the sword,º
and wilt dashºº
their children,º
and rip upºº
their women with child.º |
 8:13
And Hazael said, But what is thy servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, Jehovah hath showed me that thou shalt be king over Syria. |
|
 8:13
And Hazaelº
said,ºº
Butº
what,º
[is] thy servantº
a dog,º
thatº
he should doºº
thisº
greatº
thing?º
And Elishaº
answered,ºº
The LORDº
hath shewedºº
me that thou [shalt be] kingº
overº
Syria.º |
 8:14
Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou wouldest surely recover. |
|
 8:14
So he departedººº
fromºº
Elisha,º
and cameºº
toº
his master;º
who saidºº
to him, Whatº
saidºº
Elishaº
to thee? And he answered,ºº
He toldºº
me [that] thou shouldest surelyºº
recover.ºº |
 8:15
And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead. |
|
 8:15
And it came to passº
on the morrow,ºº
that he tookºº
a thick cloth,º
and dippedºº
[it] in water,º
and spreadºº
[it] onº
his face,º
so that he died:ºº
and Hazaelº
reignedºº
in his stead.º |
 8:16 ¶
And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. |
|
 8:16 ¶
And in the fifthº
yearº
of Joramº
the sonº
of Ahabº
kingº
of Israel,º
Jehoshaphatº
[being] then kingº
of Judah,º
Jehoramº
the sonº
of Jehoshaphatº
kingº
of Judahº
began to reign.ºº |
 8:17
Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
|
 8:17
Thirtyº
and twoº
yearsº
oldº
wasº
he when he began to reign;ºº
and he reignedºº
eightº
yearsº
in Jerusalem.º |
 8:18
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah. |
|
 8:18
And he walkedººº
in the wayº
of the kingsº
of Israel,º
asº
didºº
the houseº
of Ahab:º
forº
the daughterº
of Ahabº
wasº
his wife:º
and he didºº
evilº
in the sightº
of the LORD.º |
 8:19
Howbeit Jehovah would not destroy Judah, for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give unto him a lamp for his children alway. |
|
 8:19
Yet the LORDº
wouldºº
notº
destroyººº
Judahº
for Davidº
his servant'sº
sake,º
asº
he promisedºº
him to giveºº
him alwayºº
a light,º
[and] to his children.º |
 8:20 ¶
In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. |
|
 8:20 ¶
In his daysº
Edomº
revoltedºº
from underºº
the handº
of Judah,º
and madeºº
a kingº
overº
themselves. |
 8:21
Then Joram passed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. |
|
 8:21
So Joramº
went overºº
to Zair,º
and allº
the chariotsº
withº
him: and heº
roseºº
by night,º
and smoteººº
the Edomitesº
which compassed him about,ººº
and the captainsº
of the chariots:º
and the peopleº
fledºº
into their tents.º |
 8:22
So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then did Libnah revolt at the same time. |
|
 8:22
Yet Edomº
revoltedºº
from underºº
the handº
of Judahº
untoº
thisº
day.º
Thenº
Libnahº
revoltedºº
at the sameº
time.º |
 8:23
And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? |
|
 8:23
And the restº
of the actsº
of Joram,º
and allº
thatº
he did,ºº
[are] theyº
notº
writtenºº
inº
the bookº
of the chroniclesºº
of the kingsº
of Judah?º |
 8:24
And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. |
|
 8:24
And Joramº
sleptºº
withº
his fathers,º
and was buriedºº
withº
his fathersº
in the cityº
of David:º
and Ahaziahº
his sonº
reignedºº
in his stead.º |
 8:25 ¶

 8:26
Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel. |
|
 8:26

|
 8:27
And he walkedººº
in the wayº
of the houseº
of Ahab,º
and didºº
evilº
in the sightº
of the LORD,º
as [did] the houseº

forº
heº
[was] the son in lawº
of the houseº
of Ahab.º |
 8:28 ¶
And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram. |

Joramº
the sonº
of Ahabº
to the warº

and the Syriansº
woundedººº
Joram.º |
 8:29
And king Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. |
|
