American Standard Version - King James Version
ASV 1901 < < 2 Kings 5 > > KJV 1769
1 Naaman, by the report of a captive maid, is sent to Samaria to be cured of his leprosy. 8 Elisha, sending him to Jordan, cureth him. 15 He refusing Naaman's gifts granted him some of the earth. 20 Gehazi, abusing his master's name unto Naaman, is smitten with leprosy.
 5:1 ¶
Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Jehovah had given victory unto Syria: he was also a mighty man of valor, [but he was] a leper. |
|
 5:1 ¶
Now Naaman,º
captainº
of the hostº
of the kingº
of Syria,º
wasº
a greatº
manº
withº
his master,º
and honourable,ººº
becauseº
by him the LORDº
had givenºº
deliveranceº
unto Syria:º
he wasº
also a mightyº
manº
in valour,º
[but he was] a leper.ºº |
 5:2
And the Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naaman's wife. |
|
 5:2
And the Syriansº
had gone outºº
by companies,º
and had brought away captiveºº
out of the landºº
of Israelº
a littleº
maid;º
and she waitedºº
onº
Naaman'sº
wife.º |
 5:3
And she said unto her mistress, Would that my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! then would he recover him of his leprosy. |
|
 5:3
And she saidºº
untoº
her mistress,º
Wouldº
Godº
my lordº
[were] withº
the prophetº
thatº
[is] in Samaria!º
forº
he would recoverºº
him of his leprosy.ºº |
 5:4
And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maiden that is of the land of Israel. |
|
 5:4
And [one] went in,ºº
and toldºº
his lord,º
saying,ºº
Thusº
and thusº
saidºº
the maidº
thatº
[is] of the landºº
of Israel.º |
 5:5
And the king of Syria said, Go now, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand [pieces] of gold, and ten changes of raiment. |
|
 5:5
And the kingº
of Syriaº
said,ºº
Go to,ººº
go,ºº
and I will sendºº
a letterº
untoº
the kingº
of Israel.º
And he departed,ººº
and tookºº
withº
himº
tenº
talentsº
of silver,º
and sixº
thousandº
[pieces] of gold,º
and tenº
changesº
of raiment.º |
 5:6
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy. |
|
 5:6
And he broughtºº
the letterº
toº
the kingº
of Israel,º
saying,ºº
Nowº
when thisº
letterº
is comeºº
untoº
thee, behold,º
I have [therewith] sentººº
Naamanº
my servantº
toº
thee, that thou mayest recoverºº
him of his leprosy.ºº |
 5:7
And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? but consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me. |
|
 5:7
And it came to pass,º
when the kingº
of Israelº
had readººº
the letter,º
that he rentºº
his clothes,º
and said,ºº
[Am] Iº
God,º
to killºº
and to make alive,ºº
thatº
thisº
manº
doth sendºº
untoº
me to recoverºº
a manº
of his leprosy?ºº
whereforeºº
consider,ºº
I pray you,º
and seeºº
howº
heº
seeketh a quarrelºº
against me. |
 5:8 ¶
And it was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. |
|
 5:8 ¶
And it wasº
[so], when Elishaº
the manº
of Godº
had heardºº
thatº
the kingº
of Israelº
had rentººº
his clothes,º
that he sentºº
toº
the king,º
saying,ºº
Whereforeº
hast thou rentºº
thy clothes?º
let him comeºº
nowº
toº
me, and he shall knowºº
thatº
there isº
a prophetº
in Israel.º |
 5:9
So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. |
|
 5:9
So Naamanº
cameºº
with his horsesº
and with his chariot,º
and stoodºº
at the doorº
of the houseº
of Elisha.º |
 5:10
And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. |
|
 5:10
And Elishaº
sentºº
a messengerº
untoº
him, saying,ºº
Goºº
and washºº
in Jordanº
sevenº
times,º
and thy fleshº
shall come againºº
to thee, and thou shalt be clean.ºº |
 5:11
But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Jehovah his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recover the leper. |
|
 5:11
But Naamanº
was wroth,ºº
and went away,ººº
and said,ºº
Behold,º
I thought,ºº
He will surelyºº
come outºº
toº
me, and stand,ºº
and callºº
on the nameº
of the LORDº
his God,º
and strikeºº
his handº
overº
the place,º
and recoverºº
the leper.ºº |
 5:12
Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. |
|
 5:12
[Are] notº
Abanaººº
and Pharpar,º
riversº
of Damascus,º
betterº
than allºº
the watersº
of Israel?º
may I notº
washºº
in them, and be clean?ºº
So he turnedºº
and went awayººº
in a rage.º |
 5:13
And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? |
|
 5:13
And his servantsº
came near,ºº
and spakeºº
untoº
him, and said,ºº
My father,º
[if] the prophetº
had bidººº
thee [do some] greatº
thing,º
wouldest thou notº
have doneºº
[it]? how much ratherº
then,º
whenº
he saithºº
toº
thee, Wash,ºº
and be clean?ºº |
 5:14
Then went he down, and dipped [himself] seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. |
|
 5:14
Then went he down,ºº
and dippedºº
himself sevenº
timesº
in Jordan,º
according to the sayingº
of the manº
of God:º
and his fleshº
came againºº
like unto the fleshº
of a littleº
child,º
and he was clean.ºº |
 5:15 ¶
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant. |
|
 5:15 ¶
And he returnedºº
toº
the manº
of God,º
heº
and allº
his company,º
and came,ºº
and stoodºº
beforeº
him: and he said,ºº
Behold,º
nowº
I knowºº
thatº
[there is] noº
Godº
in allº
the earth,º
butºº
in Israel:º
nowº
therefore, I pray thee,º
takeºº
a blessingº
ofºº
thy servant.º |
 5:16
But he said, As Jehovah liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused. |
|
 5:16
But he said,ºº
[As] the LORDº
liveth,º
beforeº
whomº
I stand,ºº
I will receiveºº
none. And he urgedºº
him to takeºº
[it]; but he refused.ºº |
 5:17
And Naaman said, If not, yet, I pray thee, let there be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth; for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt-offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto Jehovah. |
|
 5:17
And Naamanº
said,ºº
Shall there notº
then, I pray thee,º
be givenºº
to thy servantº
twoº
mules'ºº
burdenº
of earth?º
forº
thy servantº
will henceforthº
offerºº
neitherº
burnt offeringº
nor sacrificeº
unto otherº
gods,º
butºº
unto the LORD.º |
 5:18
In this thing Jehovah pardon thy servant: when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, Jehovah pardon thy servant in this thing. |
|
 5:18
In thisº
thingº
the LORDº
pardonºº
thy servant,º
[that] when my masterº
goethºº
into the houseº
of Rimmonº
to worshipºº
there,º
and heº
leanethºº
onº
my hand,º
and I bowºº
myselfº
in the houseº
of Rimmon:º
when I bow downºº
myselfº
in the houseº
of Rimmon,º
the LORDº
pardonºº
thy servantº
in thisº
thing.º |
 5:19
And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way. |
|
 5:19
And he saidºº
unto him, Goººº
in peace.º
So he departedººº
fromºº
him a littleº
way.ºº |
 5:20 ¶
But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: as Jehovah liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. |
|
 5:20 ¶
But Gehazi,º
the servantº
of Elishaº
the manº
of God,º
said,ºº
Behold,º
my masterº
hath sparedººº
Naamanº
thisº
Syrian,º
in not receivingººº
at his handsººº
that whichº
he brought:ºº
but,ºº
[as] the LORDº
liveth,º
I will runºº
afterº
him, and takeºº
somewhatº
ofºº
him. |
 5:21
So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he alighted from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? |
|
 5:21
So Gehaziº
followedºº
afterº
Naaman.º
And when Naamanº
sawºº
[him] runningºº
afterº
him, he lighted downºº
fromºº
the chariotº
to meetººº
him, and said,ºº
[Is] all well?º |
 5:22
And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there are come to me from the hill-country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment. |
|
 5:22
And he said,ºº
All [is] well.º
My masterº
hath sentºº
me, saying,ºº
Behold,º
even nowºº
there be comeºº
toº
me from mountºº
Ephraimº
twoº
young menº
of the sonsºº
of the prophets:º
giveºº
them, I pray thee,º
a talentº
of silver,º
and twoº
changesº
of garments.º |
 5:23
And Naaman said, Be pleased to take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him. |
|
 5:23
And Naamanº
said,ºº
Be content,ºº
takeºº
two talents.º
And he urgedºº
him, and boundºº
twoº
talentsº
of silverº
in twoº
bags,º
with twoº
changesº
of garments,º
and laidºº
[them] uponº
twoº
of his servants;º
and they bareºº
[them] beforeº
him. |
 5:24
And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. |
|
 5:24
And when he cameºº
toº
the tower,º
he tookºº
[them] from their hand,ºº
and bestowedºº
[them] in the house:º
and he letº
the menºº
go,ºº
and they departed.ººº |
 5:25
But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. |
|
 5:25
But heº
went in,ºº
and stoodºº
beforeº
his master.º
And Elishaº
saidºº
untoº
him, Whenceºº
[comest thou], Gehazi?º
And he said,ºº
Thy servantº
wentºº
noº
whither.º |
 5:26
And he said unto him, Went not my heart [with thee], when the man turned from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and men-servants and maid-servants? |
|
 5:26
And he saidºº
untoº
him, Wentºº
notº
mine heartº
[with thee], whenº
the manº
turnedºº
againº
fromºº
his chariotº
to meetººº
thee? [Is it] a timeº
to receiveººº
money,º
and to receiveºº
garments,º
and oliveyards,º
and vineyards,º
and sheep,º
and oxen,º
and menservants,º
and maidservants?º |
 5:27
The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper [as white] as snow. |
|
 5:27
The leprosyº
therefore of Naamanº
shall cleaveºº
unto thee, and unto thy seedº
for ever.º
And he went outºº
from his presenceºº
a leperºº
[as white] as snow.º |
