 6:1 ¶ And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell before thee is too strait for us.

 6:1 ¶ And the sonsº of the prophetsº saidºº untoºº Elisha,º Beholdº now,º the placeº whereºº weº dwellºº withº thee is too straitº forº us.

 6:2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

 6:2 Let us go,ººº we pray thee,º untoº Jordan,º and takeºº thenceºº every manº aº beam,º and let us makeºº us a placeº there,º whereº we may dwell.ºº And he answered,ºº Goººº ye.

 6:3 And one said, Be pleased, I pray thee, to go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

 6:3 And oneº said,ºº Be content,ºº I pray thee,º and goººº withº thy servants.º And he answered,ºº Iº will go.ººº

 6:4 So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down wood.

 6:4 So he wentººº withº them. And when they cameºº to Jordan,º they cut downºº wood.º

 6:5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe-head fell into the water; and he cried, and said, Alas, my master! for it was borrowed.

 6:5 But as oneº wasº fellingºº a beam,º the axe headº fellºº intoº the water:º and he cried,ºº and said,ºº Alas,º master!º for itº was borrowed.ºº

 6:6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and made the iron to swim.

 6:6 And the manº of Godº said,ºº Whereº fellºº it? And he shewedºº himº the place.º And he cut downºº a stick,º and castºº [it] in thither;º and the ironº did swim.ºº

 6:7 And he said, Take it up to thee. So he put out his hand, and took it.

 6:7 Therefore saidºº he, Take [it] upºº to thee. And he put outºº his hand,º and tookºº it.

 6:8 ¶ Now the king of Syria was warring against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

 6:8 ¶ Then the kingº of Syriaº warredºº against Israel,º and took counselºº withº his servants,º saying,ºº Inº suchº and suchºº a placeº [shall be] my camp.º

 6:9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are coming down.

 6:9 And the manº of Godº sentºº untoº the kingº of Israel,º saying,ºº Bewareºº that thou passºº notºº suchº a place;º forº thitherº the Syriansº are come down.º

 6:10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once nor twice.

 6:10 And the kingº of Israelº sentºº toº the placeº whichº the manº of Godº toldºº him and warnedºº him of, and savedºº himselfº there,º notº onceº norº twice.º

 6:11 And the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?

 6:11 Therefore the heartº of the kingº of Syriaº was sore troubledºº forº thisº thing;º and he calledººº his servants,º and saidºº untoº them, Will ye notº shewºº me whichº ofºº us [is] forº the kingº of Israel?º

 6:12 And one of his servants said, Nay, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

 6:12 And oneº of his servantsºº said,ºº None,º my lord,º O king:º butº Elisha,º the prophetº thatº [is] in Israel,º tellethºº the kingº of Israelºº the wordsº thatº thou speakestºº in thy bedchamber.ºº

 6:13 ¶ And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

 6:13 ¶ And he said,ºº Goººº and spyºº whereº heº [is], that I may sendºº and fetchºº him. And it was toldºº him, saying,ºº Behold,º [he is] in Dothan.º

 6:14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

 6:14 Therefore sentºº he thitherº horses,º and chariots,º and a greatº host:º and they cameºº by night,º and compassedººº the cityº about.ºº

 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host with horses and chariots was round about the city. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

 6:15 And when the servantºº of the manº of Godº was risenºº early,ºº and gone forth,ºº behold,º an hostº compassedººº the cityº both with horsesº and chariots.º And his servantº saidºº untoº him, Alas,º my master!º howº shall we do?ºº

 6:16 And he answered, Fear not; for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.

 6:16 And he answered,ºº Fearºº not:º forº they thatº [be] withº us [are] moreº than they thatºº [be] withº them.

 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Jehovah, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

 6:17 And Elishaº prayed,ºº and said,ºº LORD,º I pray thee,º openººº his eyes,º that he may see.ºº And the LORDº openedººº the eyesº of the young man;º and he saw:ºº and, behold,º the mountainº [was] fullºº of horsesº and chariotsº of fireº round aboutº Elisha.º

 6:18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto Jehovah, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

 6:18 And when they came downºº toº him, Elishaº prayedºº untoº the LORD,º and said,ºº Smiteººº thisº people,º I pray thee,º with blindness.º And he smoteºº them with blindnessº according to the wordº of Elisha.º

 6:19 ¶ And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria.

 6:19 ¶ And Elishaº saidºº untoº them, Thisº [is] notº the way,º neitherº [is] thisº the city:º followºººº me, and I will bringººº you toº the manº whomº ye seek.ºº But he ledººº them to Samaria.º

 6:20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Jehovah, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And Jehovah opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

 6:20 And it came to pass,º when they were comeºº into Samaria,º that Elishaº said,ºº LORD,º openººº the eyesº of theseº [men], that they may see.ºº And the LORDº openedººº their eyes,º and they saw;ºº and, behold,º [they were] in the midstº of Samaria.º

 6:21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

 6:21 And the kingº of Israelº saidºº untoº Elisha,º when he sawºº them, My father,º shall I smiteºº [them]? shall I smiteºº [them]?

 6:22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

 6:22 And he answered,ºº Thou shalt notº smiteºº [them]: wouldest thouº smiteºº those whomº thou hast taken captiveºº with thy swordº and with thy bow?º setºº breadº and waterº beforeº them, that they may eatºº and drink,ºº and goººº toº their master.º

 6:23 And he prepared great provision for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

 6:23 And he preparedºº greatº provisionº for them: and when they had eatenºº and drunk,ºº he sent them away,ºº and they wentººº toº their master.º So the bandsº of Syriaº cameºº noº moreººº into the landº of Israel.º

 6:24 ¶ And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

 6:24 ¶ And it came to passº afterº this,ºº that Benhadadº kingº of Syriaº gatheredººº allº his host,º and went up,ºº and besiegedººº Samaria.º

 6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore [pieces] of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove's dung for five [pieces] of silver.

 6:25 And there wasº a greatº famineº in Samaria:º and, behold,º they besiegedººº it, untilº an ass'sº headº wasº [sold] for fourscoreº [pieces] of silver,º and the fourth partº of a cabº of dove's dungºººº for fiveº [pieces] of silver.º

 6:26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

 6:26 And as the kingº of Israelº wasº passing byºº uponº the wall,º there criedºº a womanº untoº him, saying,ºº Help,ºº my lord,º O king.º

 6:27 And he said, If Jehovah do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the winepress?

 6:27 And he said,ºº If the LORDº do notº helpºº thee, whenceºº shall I helpºº thee? out ofº the barnfloor,º orº out ofº the winepress?º

 6:28 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to-day, and we will eat my son to-morrow.

 6:28 And the kingº saidºº unto her, Whatº aileth thee? And she answered,ºº Thisº womanº saidºº untoº me, Giveººº thy son,º that we may eatºº him to day,º and we will eatºº my sonº to morrow.º

 6:29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him; and she hath hid her son.

 6:29 So we boiledººº my son,º and did eatºº him: and I saidºº untoº her on the nextº day,º Giveººº thy son,º that we may eatºº him: and she hath hidººº her son.º

 6:30 ¶ And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes (now he was passing by upon the wall); and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

 6:30 ¶ And it came to pass,º when the kingº heardººº the wordsº of the woman,º that he rentººº his clothes;º and heº passed byºº uponº the wall,º and the peopleº looked,ºº and, behold,º [he had] sackclothº withinºº uponº his flesh.º

 6:31 Then he said, God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

 6:31 Then he said,ºº Godº doºº soº and moreºº alsoº to me, ifº the headº of Elishaº the sonº of Shaphatº shall standºº onº him this day.º

 6:32 But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him; and [the king] sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold the door fast against him: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

 6:32 But Elishaº satºº in his house,º and the eldersº satºº withº him; and [the king] sentºº a manº from beforeºº him: but ereº the messengerº cameºº toº him, heº saidºº toº the elders,º Seeºº ye howº thisº sonº of a murdererºº hath sentºº to take awayººº mine head?º look,ºº when the messengerº cometh,ºº shutºº the door,º and hold him fastººº at the door:º [is] notº the soundº of his master'sº feetº behindº him?

 6:33 And while he was yet talking with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of Jehovah; why should I wait for Jehovah any longer?

 6:33 And while he yetº talkedºº withº them, behold,º the messengerº came downºº untoº him: and he said,ºº Behold,º thisº evilº [is] ofºº the LORD;º whatº should I waitºº for the LORDº any longer?º
