 22:1 ¶ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

 22:1 ¶ Josiahº [was] eightº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºº and he reignedºº thirtyº and oneº yearsº in Jerusalem.º And his mother'sº nameº [was] Jedidah,º the daughterº of Adaiahº of Boscath.ºº

 22:2 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

 22:2 And he didºº [that which was] rightº in the sightº of the LORD,º and walkedººº in allº the wayº of Davidº his father,º and turned not asideººº to the right handº or to the left.º

 22:3 ¶ And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

 22:3 ¶ And it came to passº in the eighteenthºº yearº of kingº Josiah,º [that] the kingº sentººº Shaphanº the sonº of Azaliah,º the sonº of Meshullam,º the scribe,ºº to the houseº of the LORD,º saying,ºº

 22:4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Jehovah, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people:

 22:4 Go upºº toº Hilkiahº the highº priest,º that he may sumººº the silverº which is broughtºº into the houseº of the LORD,º whichº the keepersºº of the doorº have gatheredºº ofºº the people:º

 22:5 and let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and let them give it to the workmen that are in the house of Jehovah, to repair the breaches of the house,

 22:5 And let them deliverºº it intoº the handº of the doersºº of the work,º that have the oversightºº of the houseº of the LORD:º and let them giveºº it to the doersºº of the workº whichº [is] in the houseº of the LORD,º to repairºº the breachesº of the house,º

 22:6 unto the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

 22:6 Unto carpenters,º and builders,ºº and masons,ºº and to buyºº timberº and hewnº stoneº to repairººº the house.º

 22:7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.

 22:7 Howbeitº there was noº reckoningº madeºº withº them of the moneyº that was deliveredºº intoº their hand,º becauseº theyº dealtºº faithfully.º

 22:8 ¶ And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

 22:8 ¶ And Hilkiahº the highº priestº saidºº untoº Shaphanº the scribe,ºº I have foundºº the bookº of the lawº in the houseº of the LORD.º And Hilkiahº gaveººº the bookº toº Shaphan,º and he readºº it.

 22:9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah.

 22:9 And Shaphanº the scribeºº cameºº toº the king,º and broughtºº the kingº wordº again,ººººº and said,ºº Thy servantsº have gatheredººº the moneyº that was foundºº in the house,º and have deliveredºº it intoº the handº of them that doºº the work,º that have the oversightºº of the houseº of the LORD.º

 22:10 And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

 22:10 And Shaphanº the scribeºº shewedºº the king,º saying,ºº Hilkiahº the priestº hath deliveredºº me a book.º And Shaphanº readºº it beforeº the king.º

 22:11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

 22:11 And it came to pass,º when the kingº had heardººº the wordsº of the bookº of the law,º that he rentººº his clothes.º

 22:12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

 22:12 And the kingº commandedººº Hilkiahº the priest,º and Ahikamº the sonº of Shaphan,º and Achborº the sonº of Michaiah,º and Shaphanº the scribe,ºº and Asahiahº a servantº of the king's,º saying,ºº

 22:13 Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

 22:13 Goººº ye, enquireºº ofº the LORDº forº me, and forº the people,º and forº allº Judah,º concerningº the wordsº of thisº bookº that is found:ºº forº greatº [is] the wrathº of the LORDº thatº is kindledºº against us, becauseºº our fathersº have notº hearkenedºº untoº the wordsº of thisº book,º to doºº according unto allº that which is writtenºº concerningº us.

 22:14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they communed with her.

 22:14 So Hilkiahº the priest,º and Ahikam,º and Achbor,º and Shaphan,º and Asahiah,º wentººº untoº Huldahº the prophetess,º the wifeº of Shallumº the sonº of Tikvah,º the sonº of Harhas,º keeperºº of the wardrobe;º (now sheº dweltºº in Jerusalemº in the college;)º and they communedºº withº her.

 22:15 ¶ And she said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Tell ye the man that sent you unto me,

 22:15 ¶ And she saidºº untoº them, Thusº saithºº the LORDº Godº of Israel,º Tellºº the manº thatº sentºº you toº me,

 22:16 Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read.

 22:16 Thusº saithºº the LORD,º Behold,º I will bringºº evilº uponº thisº place,º and uponº the inhabitantsºº thereof, [even]º allº the wordsº of the bookº whichº the kingº of Judahº hath read:ºº

 22:17 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

 22:17 Becauseºº they have forsakenºº me, and have burned incenseºº unto otherº gods,º thatº they might provoke me to angerºº with allº the worksº of their hands;º therefore my wrathº shall be kindledºº against thisº place,º and shall notº be quenched.ºº

 22:18 But unto the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: As touching the words which thou hast heard,

 22:18 But toº the kingº of Judahº which sentºº you to enquireºº ofº the LORD,º thusº shall ye sayºº toº him, Thusº saithºº the LORDº Godº of Israel,º [As touching] the wordsº whichº thou hast heard;ºº

 22:19 because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith Jehovah.

 22:19 Becauseº thine heartº was tender,ºº and thou hast humbledºº thyselfº beforeºº the LORD,º when thou heardestºº whatº I spakeºº againstº thisº place,º and againstº the inhabitantsºº thereof, that they should becomeº a desolationº and a curse,º and hast rentººº thy clothes,º and weptºº beforeº me; Iº alsoº have heardºº [thee], saithºº the LORD.º

 22:20 Therefore, behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

 22:20 Beholdº therefore,º I will gatherºº thee untoº thy fathers,º and thou shalt be gatheredºº intoº thy graveº in peace;º and thine eyesº shall notº seeºº allº the evilº whichº Iº will bringºº uponº thisº place.º And they broughtººº the kingº wordº again.ºº
