1 Kings 3

1 Solomon marrieth Pharaoh's daughter. 2 High places being in use, Solomon sacrificeth at Gibeon. 5 Solomon at Gibeon, in the choice which God gave him, preferring wisdom, obtaineth wisdom, riches and honour. 16 Solomon's judgment between the two harlots maketh him renowned.

 3:1 Then Solomon 8010 formed 2859 a marriage 2859 alliance 2859 with Pharaoh 6547 king 4428 of Egypt 4714, and took 3947 Pharaoh’s 6547 daughter 1323 and brought 935 her to the city 5892b of David 1732 until 5704 he had finished 3615 building 1129 his own house 1004 and the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 and the wall 2346 around 5439 Jerusalem 3389.

 3:2 The people 5971a were still 7534 sacrificing 2076 on the high 1116 places 1116, because 3588 there was no 3808 house 1004 built 1129 for the name 8034 of the LORD 3068 until 5704 those 1992a days 3117.

 3:3 ¶ Now Solomon 8010 loved 157 the LORD 3068, walking 1980 in the statutes 2708 of his father 1 David 1732, except 7534 he sacrificed 2076 and burned 6999 incense 6999 on the high 1116 places 1116.

 3:4 The king 4428 went 1980 to Gibeon 1391 to sacrifice 2076 there 8033, for that was the great 1419 high 1116 place 1116; Solomon 8010 offered 5927 a thousand 505 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a on that altar 4196.

 3:5 In Gibeon 1391 the LORD 3068 appeared 7200 to Solomon 8010 in a dream 2472 at night 3915; and God 430 said 559, “Ask 7592 what 4100 [you wish] Me to give 5414 you.”

 3:6 Then Solomon 8010 said 559, “You have shown 6213a great 1419 lovingkindness 2617a to Your servant 5650 David 1732 my father 1, according 3512c as he walked 1980 before 6440 You in truth 571 and righteousness 6666 and uprightness 3483 of heart 3824 toward 5973 You; and You have reserved 8104 for him this 2088 great 1419 lovingkindness 2617a, that You have given 5414 him a son 1121 to sit 3427 on his throne 3678, as [it is] this 2088 day 3117.

 3:7 “Now 6258, O LORD 3068 my God 430, You have made 4427a Your servant 5650 king 4427a in place 8478 of my father 1 David 1732, yet I am but a little 6996b child 5288; I do not know 3045 how to go 3318 out or come 935 in.

 3:8 “Your servant 5650 is in the midst 8432 of Your people 5971a which 834 You have chosen 977, a great 7227a people 5971a who 834 are too 4480 many 7230 to be numbered 4487 or counted 5608.

 3:9 “So give 5414 Your servant 5650 an understanding 8085 heart 3820 to judge 8199 Your people 5971a to discern 995 between 996 good 2896b and evil 7451b. For who 4310 is able 3201 to judge 8199 this 2088 great 3515 people 5971a of Yours?”

 3:10 ¶ It was pleasing 3190 in the sight 5869 of the Lord 136 that Solomon 8010 had asked 7592 this 2088 thing 1697.

 3:11 God 430 said 559 to him, “Because 3282 834 you have asked 7592 this 2088 thing 1697 and have not asked 7592 for yourself long 7227a life 3117, nor 3808 have asked 7592 riches 6239 for yourself, nor 3808 have you asked 7592 for the life 5315 of your enemies 340, but have asked 7592 for yourself discernment 995 to understand 8085 justice 4941,

 3:12 behold 2009, I have done 6213a according to your words 1697. Behold 2009, I have given 5414 you a wise 2450 and discerning 995 heart 3820, so 834 that there has been 1961 no 3808 one like 3644 you before 6440 you, nor 3808 shall one like 3644 you arise 6965 after 310 you.

 3:13 “I have also 1571 given 5414 you what 834 you have not asked 7592, both 1571 riches 6239 and honor 3519b, so 834 that there will not be any 376 among the kings 4428 like 3644 you all 3605 your days 3117.

 3:14 “If 518 you walk 1980 in My ways 1870, keeping 8104 My statutes 2706 and commandments 4687, as your father 1 David 1732 walked 1980, then I will prolong 748 your days 3117.”

 3:15 ¶ Then Solomon 8010 awoke 3364, and behold 2009, it was a dream 2472. And he came 935 to Jerusalem 3389 and stood 5975 before 6440 the ark 727 of the covenant 1285 of the Lord 136, and offered 5927 burnt 5930a offerings 5930a and made 6213a peace 8002 offerings 8002, and made 6213a a feast 4960 for all 3605 his servants 5650.

 3:16 ¶ Then 227 two 8147 women 802 who were harlots 2181 came 935 to the king 4428 and stood 5975 before 6440 him.

 3:17 The one 259 woman 802 said 559, “Oh 994a, my lord 113, this 2088 woman 802 and I live 3427 in the same 259 house 1004; and I gave 3205 birth 3205 to a child 3205 while 5973 she [was] in the house 1004.

 3:18 “It happened 1961 on the third 7992 day 3117 after I gave 3205 birth 3205, that this 2088 woman 802 also 1571 gave 3205 birth 3205 to a child 3205, and we were together 3164a. There 369 was no 369 stranger 2114a with us in the house 1004, only 2108 the two 8147 of us in the house 1004.

 3:19 “This 2088 woman’s 802 son 1121 died 4191 in the night 3915, because 834 she lay 7901 on it.

 3:20 “So she arose 6965 in the middle 8432 of the night 3915 and took 3947 my son 1121 from beside 681a me while your maidservant 519 slept 3463, and laid 7901 him in her bosom 2436, and laid 7901 her dead 4191 son 1121 in my bosom 2436.

 3:21 “When I rose 6965 in the morning 1242 to nurse 3243 my son 1121, behold 2009, he was dead 4191; but when I looked 995 at him carefully 995 in the morning 1242, behold 2009, he was not my son 1121, whom 834 I had borne 3205.”

 3:22 Then the other 312 woman 802 said 559, “No 3808! For the living 2416a one 2416a is my son 1121, and the dead 4191 one is your son 1121.” But the first 2088 woman 2088 said 559, “No 3808! For the dead 4191 one is your son 1121, and the living 2416a one 2416a is my son 1121.” Thus they spoke 1696 before 6440 the king 4428.

 3:23 ¶ Then the king 4428 said 559, “The one 2088 says 559, ‘This 2088 is my son 1121 who is living 2416a, and your son 1121 is the dead 4191 one’; and the other 2088 says 559, ‘No 3808! For your son 1121 is the dead 4191 one, and my son 1121 is the living 2416a one 2416a.’”

 3:24 The king 4428 said 559, “Get 3947 me a sword 2719.” So they brought 935 a sword 2719 before 6440 the king 4428.

 3:25 The king 4428 said 559, “Divide 1504 the living 2416a child 3206 in two 8147, and give 5414 half 2677 to the one 259 and half 2677 to the other 259.”

 3:26 Then the woman 802 whose 834 child 1121 [was] the living 2416a one 2416a spoke 559 to the king 4428, for she was deeply 7356 3648 stirred 3648 over 5921 her son 1121 and said 559, “Oh 994a, my lord 113, give 5414 her the living 2416a child 3205, and by no 408 means 4191 kill 4191 him.” But the other 2088 said 559, “He shall be neither 1571 3808 mine nor 3808 yours; divide 1504 [him]!”

 3:27 Then the king 4428 said 559, “Give 5414 the first woman the living 2416a child 3205, and by no 3808 means 4191 kill 4191 him. She is his mother 517.”

 3:28 When all 3605 Israel 3478 heard 8085 of the judgment 4941 which 834 the king 4428 had handed 8199 down 8199, they feared 3372a the king 4428, for they saw 7200 that the wisdom 2451 of God 430 was in him to administer 6213a justice 4941.
