1 Kings 11

1 Solomon's wives and concubines. 4 In his old age they draw him to idolatry. 9 God threateneth him. 14 Solomon's adversaries were Hadad, who was entertained in Egypt, 23 Rezon, who reigned in Damascus, 26 and Jeroboam, to whom Ahijah prophesied. 41 Solomon's acts, reign, and death: Rehoboam succeedeth him.

 11:1 Now King 4428 Solomon 8010 loved 157 many 7227a foreign 5237 women 802 along with the daughter 1323 of Pharaoh 6547: Moabite 4125, Ammonite 5984, Edomite 130, Sidonian 6722, and Hittite 2850 women 802,

 11:2 from the nations 1471 concerning which 834 the LORD 3068 had said 559 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, “You shall not associate 935 with them, nor 3808 shall they associate 935 with you, [for] they will surely 403 turn 5186 your heart 3824 away 5186 after 310 their gods 430.” Solomon 8010 held 1692 fast 1692 to these 1992a in love 157.

 11:3 He had 1961 seven 7651 hundred 3967 wives 802, princesses 8282, and three 7969 hundred 3967 concubines 6370, and his wives 802 turned 5186 his heart 3820 away 5186.

 11:4 For when 6256 Solomon 8010 was old 2209, his wives 802 turned 5186 his heart 3824 away 5186 after 310 other 312 gods 430; and his heart 3824 was not wholly 8003 devoted 8003 to the LORD 3068 his God 430, as the heart 3824 of David 1732 his father 1 [had been].

 11:5 For Solomon 8010 went 1980 after 310 Ashtoreth 6252b the goddess 430 of the Sidonians 6722 and after 310 Milcom 4445b the detestable 8251 idol 8251 of the Ammonites 5984.

 11:6 Solomon 8010 did 6213a what 7451a was evil 7451a in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068, and did not follow 310 the LORD 3068 fully 4390, as David 1732 his father 1 [had done].

 11:7 Then 227 Solomon 8010 built 1129 a high 1116 place 1116 for Chemosh 3645 the detestable 8251 idol 8251 of Moab 4124, on the mountain 2022 which 834 is east 5921 6440 of Jerusalem 3389, and for Molech 4432 the detestable 8251 idol 8251 of the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983.

 11:8 Thus 3651 also he did 6213a for all 3605 his foreign 5237 wives 802, who burned 6999 incense 6999 and sacrificed 2076 to their gods 430.

 11:9 ¶ Now the LORD 3068 was angry 599 with Solomon 8010 because 3588 his heart 3824 was turned 5186 away 5186 from the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, who had appeared 7200 to him twice 6471,

 11:10 and had commanded 6680 him concerning 5921 this 2088 thing 1697, that he should not go 1980 after 310 other 312 gods 430; but he did not observe 8104 what 834 the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680.

 11:11 So the LORD 3068 said 559 to Solomon 8010, “Because 3282 834 you have done 1961 5973 this 2088, and you have not kept 8104 My covenant 1285 and My statutes 2708, which 834 I have commanded 6680 you, I will surely 7167 tear 7167 the kingdom 4467 from you, and will give 5414 it to your servant 5650.

 11:12 “Nevertheless 389 I will not do 6213a it in your days 3117 for the sake 4616 of your father 1 David 1732, [but] I will tear 7167 it out of the hand 3027 of your son 1121.

 11:13 “However 7534, I will not tear 7167 away 7167 all 3605 the kingdom 4467, [but] I will give 5414 one 259 tribe 7626 to your son 1121 for the sake 4616 of My servant 5650 David 1732 and for the sake 4616 of Jerusalem 3389 which 834 I have chosen 977.”

 11:14 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 raised 6965 up an adversary 7854 to Solomon 8010, Hadad 1908 the Edomite 130; he was of the royal 4428 line 2233 in Edom 112b.

 11:15 For it came 1961 about, when David 1732 was in Edom 112b, and Joab 3097 the commander 8269 of the army 6635 had gone 5927 up to bury 6912 the slain 2491a, and had struck 5221 down 5221 every 3605 male 2145 in Edom 112b

 11:16 (for Joab 3097 and all 3605 Israel 3478 stayed 3427 there 8033 six 8337a months 2320, until 5704 he had cut 3772 off 3772 every 3605 male 2145 in Edom 112b),

 11:17 that Hadad 1908 fled 1272 to Egypt 4714, he and certain 376 Edomites 130 of his father’s 1 servants 5650 with him, while Hadad 1908 [was] a young 6996a boy 5288.

 11:18 They arose 6965 from Midian 4080 and came 935 to Paran 6290; and they took 3947 men 376 with them from Paran 6290 and came 935 to Egypt 4714, to Pharaoh 6547 king 4428 of Egypt 4714, who gave 5414 him a house 1004 and assigned 559 him food 3899 and gave 5414 him land 776.

 11:19 Now Hadad 1908 found 4672 great 3966 favor 2580 before 5869 Pharaoh 6547, so that he gave 5414 him in marriage 802 the sister 269 of his own wife 802, the sister 269 of Tahpenes 8472 the queen 1377.

 11:20 The sister 269 of Tahpenes 8472 bore 3205 his son 1121 Genubath 1592, whom Tahpenes 8472 weaned 1580 in Pharaoh’s 6547 house 1004; and Genubath 1592 was in Pharaoh’s 6547 house 1004 among 8432 the sons 1121 of Pharaoh 6547.

 11:23 ¶ God 430 also raised 6965 up [another] adversary 7854 to him, Rezon 7331 the son 1121 of Eliada 450, who 834 had fled 1272 from his lord 113 Hadadezer 1909 king 4428 of Zobah 6678.

 11:24 He gathered 6908 men 376 to himself and became 1961 leader 8269 of a marauding 1416 band 1416, after David 1732 slew 2026 them of [Zobah]; and they went 1980 to Damascus 1834 and stayed 3427 there, and reigned 4427a in Damascus 1834.

 11:25 So he was an adversary 7854 to Israel 3478 all 3605 the days 3117 of Solomon 8010, along with the evil 7463a that Hadad 1908 [did]; and he abhorred 6973 Israel 3478 and reigned 4427a over 5921 Aram 758.

 11:26 ¶ Then Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat 5028, an Ephraimite 673 of Zeredah 6868a, Solomon’s 8010 servant 5650, whose mother’s 517 name 8034 was Zeruah 6871, a widow 490, also rebelled 7311 3027 against the king 4428.

 11:27 Now this 2088 was the reason 1697 why 834 he rebelled 7311 3027 against the king 4428: Solomon 8010 built 1129 the Millo 4407, [and] closed 5462 up the breach 6556 of the city 5892b of his father 1 David 1732.

 11:28 Now the man 376 Jeroboam 3379 was a valiant 2428 warrior 1368, and when Solomon 8010 saw 7200 that the young 5288 man 5288 was industrious 4399 6213a, he appointed 6485 him over all 3605 the forced 5447 labor 5447 of the house 1004 of Joseph 3130.

 11:29 It came 1961 about at that time 6256, when Jeroboam 3379 went 3318 out of Jerusalem 3389, that the prophet 5030 Ahijah 281 the Shilonite 7888 found 4672 him on the road 1870. Now Ahijah had clothed 3680 himself with a new 2319 cloak 8008; and both 8147 of them were alone 905 in the field 7704.

 11:30 Then Ahijah 281 took 8610 hold 8610 of the new 2319 cloak 8008 which 834 was on him and tore 7167 it into twelve 8147 6240 pieces 7168.

 11:31 He said 559 to Jeroboam 3379, “Take 3947 for yourself ten 6235 pieces 7168; for thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘Behold 2009, I will tear 7167 the kingdom 4467 out of the hand 3027 of Solomon 8010 and give 5414 you ten 6235 tribes 7626

 11:32 (but he will have 1961 one 259 tribe 7626, for the sake 4616 of My servant 5650 David 1732 and for the sake 4616 of Jerusalem 3389, the city 5892b which 834 I have chosen 977 from all 3605 the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478),

 11:33 because 3282 834 they have forsaken 5800a Me, and have worshiped 7812 Ashtoreth 6252b the goddess 430 of the Sidonians 6722, Chemosh 3645 the god 430 of Moab 4124, and Milcom 4445b the god 430 of the sons 1121 of Ammon 5983; and they have not walked 1980 in My ways 1870, doing 6213a what 3477 is right 3477 in My sight 5869 and [observing] My statutes 2708 and My ordinances 4941, as his father 1 David 1732 [did].

 11:34 ‘Nevertheless I will not take 3947 the whole 3605 kingdom 4467 out of his hand 3027, but I will make 7896 him ruler 5387a all 3605 the days 3117 of his life 2425b, for the sake 4616 of My servant 5650 David 1732 whom 834 I chose 977, who 834 observed 8104 My commandments 4687 and My statutes 2708;

 11:35 but I will take 3947 the kingdom 4410 from his son’s 1121 hand 3027 and give 5414 it to you, [even] ten 6235 tribes 7626.

 11:36 ‘But to his son 1121 I will give 5414 one 259 tribe 7626, that My servant 5650 David 1732 may have 1961 a lamp 5215a always 3605 3117 before 6440 Me in Jerusalem 3389, the city 5892b where 834 8033 I have chosen 977 for Myself to put 7760 My name 8034.

 11:37 ‘I will take 3947 you, and you shall reign 4427a over whatever 3605 834 you desire 183, and you shall be king 4428 over 5921 Israel 3478.

 11:38 ‘Then it will be, that if 518 you listen 8085 to all 3605 that I command 6680 you and walk 1980 in My ways 1870, and do 6213a what 3477 is right 3477 in My sight 5869 by observing 8104 My statutes 2708 and My commandments 4687, as My servant 5650 David 1732 did 6213a, then I will be with you and build 1129 you an enduring 539 house 1004 as I built 1129 for David 1732, and I will give 5414 Israel 3478 to you.

 11:39 ‘Thus I will afflict 6031a the descendants 2233 of David 1732 for this 2088, but not always 3605 3117.’”

 11:40 Solomon 8010 sought 1245 therefore to put 4191 Jeroboam 3379 to death 4191; but Jeroboam 3379 arose 6965 and fled 1272 to Egypt 4714 to Shishak 7895 king 4428 of Egypt 4714, and he was in Egypt 4714 until 5704 the death 4194 of Solomon 8010.

 11:41 ¶ Now the rest 3499a of the acts 1697 of Solomon 8010 and whatever 3605 834 he did 6213a, and his wisdom 2451, are they not written 3789 in the book 5612 of the acts 1697 of Solomon 8010?

 11:42 Thus the time 3117 that Solomon 8010 reigned 4427a in Jerusalem 3389 over 5921 all 3605 Israel 3478 was forty 705 years 8141.

 11:43 And Solomon 8010 slept 7901 with his fathers 1 and was buried 6912 in the city 5892b of his father 1 David 1732, and his son 1121 Rehoboam 7346 reigned 4427a in his place 8478.
