1 Kings 19

1 Elijah, threatened by Jezebel, fleeth to Beer-sheba. 4 In the wilderness, being weary of his life, he is comforted by an angel. 9 At Horeb God appeareth unto him, sending him to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elisha. 19 Elisha, taking leave of his friends, followeth Elijah.

 19:1 Now Ahab 256 told 5046 Jezebel 348 all 3605 that Elijah 452 had done 6213a, and how 834 he had killed 2026 all 3605 the prophets 5030 with the sword 2719.

 19:2 Then Jezebel 348 sent 7971 a messenger 4397 to Elijah 452, saying 559, “So 3541 may the gods 430 do 6213a to me and even 3541 more 3254, if 3588 I do not make 7760 your life 5315 as the life 5315 of one 259 of them by tomorrow 4279 about this time 6256.”

 19:3 And he was afraid 3372a and arose 6965 and ran 1980 for his life 5315 and came 935 to Beersheba 884, which 834 belongs to Judah 3063, and left 5117 his servant 5288 there 8033.

 19:4 But he himself 1931 went 1980 a day’s 3117 journey 1870 into the wilderness 4057b, and came 935 and sat 3427 down 3427 under 8478 a juniper 7574 tree 7574; and he requested 7592 for himself 5315 that he might die 4191, and said 559, “It is enough 7227a; now 6258, O LORD 3068, take 3947 my life 5315, for I am not better 2896a than 4480 my fathers 1.”

 19:5 He lay 7901 down 7901 and slept 3462 under 8478 a juniper 7574 tree 7574; and behold 2009, there 2088 was an angel 4397 touching 5060 him, and he said 559 to him, “Arise 6965, eat 398.”

 19:6 Then he looked 5027 and behold 2009, there was at his head 4763 a bread 5692 cake 5692 [baked on] hot 7531a stones 7531a, and a jar 6835 of water 4325. So he ate 398 and drank 8354 and lay 7901 down 7901 again 7725.

 19:7 The angel 4397 of the LORD 3068 came 7725 again 7725 a second 8145 time 8145 and touched 5060 him and said 559, “Arise 6965, eat 398, because 3588 the journey 1870 is too 4480 great 7227a for you.”

 19:8 So he arose 6965 and ate 398 and drank 8354, and went 1980 in the strength 3581b of that food 396 forty 705 days 3117 and forty 705 nights 3915 to Horeb 2722, the mountain 2022 of God 430.

 19:9 ¶ Then he came 935 there 8033 to a cave 4631 and lodged 3885a there 8033; and behold 2009, the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 [came] to him, and He said 559 to him, “What 4100 are you doing here 6311, Elijah 452?”

 19:10 He said 559, “I have been 7065 very 7065 zealous 7065 for the LORD 3068, the God 430 of hosts 6635; for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 have forsaken 5800a Your covenant 1285, torn 2040 down 2040 Your altars 4196 and killed 2026 Your prophets 5030 with the sword 2719. And I alone 905 am left 3498; and they seek 1245 my life 5315, to take 3947 it away.”

 19:11 ¶ So He said 559, “Go 3318 forth 3318 and stand 5975 on the mountain 2022 before 6440 the LORD 3068.” And behold 2009, the LORD 3068 was passing 5674a by! And a great 1419 and strong 2389 wind 7307 was rending 6561 the mountains 2022 and breaking 7665 in pieces 7665 the rocks 5553 before 6440 the LORD 3068; [but] the LORD 3068 [was] not in the wind 7307. And after 310 the wind 7307 an earthquake 7494, [but] the LORD 3068 [was] not in the earthquake 7494.

 19:12 After 310 the earthquake 7494 a fire 784, [but] the LORD 3068 [was] not in the fire 784; and after 310 the fire 784 a sound 6963 of a gentle 1851 blowing 1827.

 19:13 When Elijah 452 heard 8085 [it], he wrapped 3874 his face 6440 in his mantle 155 and went 3318 out and stood 5975 in the entrance 6607 of the cave 4631. And behold 2009, a voice 6963 [came] to him and said 559, “What 4100 are you doing here 6311, Elijah 452?”

 19:14 Then he said 559, “I have been 7065 very 7065 zealous 7065 for the LORD 3068, the God 430 of hosts 6635; for the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 have forsaken 5800a Your covenant 1285, torn 2040 down 2040 Your altars 4196 and killed 2026 Your prophets 5030 with the sword 2719. And I alone 905 am left 3498; and they seek 1245 my life 5315, to take 3947 it away.”

 19:15 ¶ The LORD 3068 said 559 to him, “Go 1980, return 7725 on your way 1870 to the wilderness 4057b of Damascus 1834, and when you have arrived 935, you shall anoint 4886 Hazael 2371 king 4428 over 5921 Aram 758;

 19:16 and Jehu 3058 the son 1121 of Nimshi 5250 you shall anoint 4886 king 4428 over 5921 Israel 3478; and Elisha 477 the son 1121 of Shaphat 8202 of Abel-meholah 65 you shall anoint 4886 as prophet 5030 in your place 8478.

 19:17 “It shall come 1961 about, the one who escapes 4422 from the sword 2719 of Hazael 2371, Jehu 3058 shall put 4191 to death 4191, and the one who escapes 4422 from the sword 2719 of Jehu 3058, Elisha 477 shall put 4191 to death 4191.

 19:18 “Yet I will leave 7604 7,000 7651 505 in Israel 3478, all 3605 the knees 1290 that have not bowed 3766 to Baal 1168a and every 3605 mouth 6310 that has not kissed 5401a him.”

 19:19 ¶ So he departed 1980 from there 8033 and found 4672 Elisha 477 the son 1121 of Shaphat 8202, while he was plowing 2790a with twelve 8147 6240 pairs 6776 [of oxen] before 6440 him, and he with the twelfth 8147 6240. And Elijah 452 passed 5674a over 5674a to him and threw 7993 his mantle 155 on him.

 19:20 He left 5800a the oxen 1241 and ran 7323 after 310 Elijah 452 and said 559, “Please 4994 let me kiss 5401a my father 1 and my mother 517, then I will follow 1980 310 you.” And he said 559 to him, “Go 1980 back 7725 again 7725, for what 4100 have I done 6213a to you?”

 19:21 So he returned 7725 from following 310 him, and took 3947 the pair 6776 of oxen 1241 and sacrificed 2076 them and boiled 1310 their flesh 1320 with the implements 3627 of the oxen 1241, and gave 5414 [it] to the people 5971a and they ate 398. Then he arose 6965 and followed 1980 310 Elijah 452 and ministered 8334 to him.
