Acts 8

1 By occasion of the persecution in Jerusalem, the Church being planted in Samaria, 5 by Philip the deacon, who preached, did miracles, and baptized many, among the rest Simon the sorcerer, a great seducer of the people: 14 Peter and John come to confirm and enlarge the Church: where, by prayer and imposition of hands giving in the Holy Ghost, 18 when Simon would have bought the like power of them, 20 Peter sharply reproving his hypocrisy, and covetousness, and exhorting him to repentance, together with John preaching the Word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem. 26 But the angel saith to Philip to teach and baptize the Ethiopian eunuch.

 8:1 Saul 4569 was in hearty 4909 agreement 4909 with putting 336 him to death 336. ¶ And on that day 2250 a great 3173 persecution 1375 began 1096 against 1909 the church 1577 in Jerusalem 2414, and they were all 3956 scattered 1289 throughout 2596 the regions 5561 of Judea 2453 and Samaria 4540, except 4133 the apostles 652.

 8:2 [Some] devout 2126 men 435 buried 4792 Stephen 4736, and made 4160 loud 3173 lamentation 2870 over 1909 him.

 8:3 But Saul 4569 [began] ravaging 3075 the church 1577, entering 1531 house 3624 after 2596 house 3624, and dragging 4951 off men 435 and women 1135, he would put 3860 them in prison 5438.

 8:4 ¶ Therefore 3767, those 3588 who had been scattered 1289 went 1330 about 1330 preaching 2097 the word 3056.

 8:5 Philip 5376 went 2718 down 2718 to the city 4172 of Samaria 4540 and [began] proclaiming 2784 Christ 5547 to them.

 8:6 The crowds 3793 with one 3661 accord 3661 were giving 4337 attention 4337 to what was said 3004 by Philip 5376, as they heard 191 and saw 991 the signs 4592 which 3739 he was performing 4160.

 8:7 For [in the case of] many 4183 who had 2192 unclean 169 spirits 4151, they were coming 1831 out [of them] shouting 994 with a loud 3173 voice 5456; and many 4183 who had been paralyzed 3886 and lame 5560 were healed 2323.

 8:8 So 1161 there was much 4183 rejoicing 5479 in that city 4172.

 8:9 ¶ Now 1161 there was a man 435 named 3686 Simon 4613, who formerly 4391 was practicing 3096 magic 3096 in the city 4172 and astonishing 1839 the people 1484 of Samaria 4540, claiming 3004 to be someone 5100 great 3173;

 8:10 and they all 3956, from smallest 3398 to greatest 3173, were giving 4337 attention 4337 to him, saying 3004, “This 3778 man 3778 is what is called 2564 the Great 3173 Power 1411 of God 2316.”

 8:11 And they were giving 4337 him attention 4337 because 1223 he had for a long 2425 time 5550 astonished 1839 them with his magic 3095 arts 3095.

 8:12 But when 3753 they believed 4100 Philip 5376 preaching 2097 the good 2097 news 2097 about 4012 the kingdom 932 of God 2316 and the name 3686 of Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, they were being baptized 907, men 435 and women 1135 alike 5037.

 8:13 Even 2532 Simon 4613 himself 846 believed 4100; and after being baptized 907, he continued 4342 on with Philip 5376, and as he observed 2334 signs 4592 and great 3173 miracles 1411 taking 1096 place 1096, he was constantly amazed 1839.

 8:14 ¶ Now 1161 when the apostles 652 in Jerusalem 2414 heard 191 that Samaria 4540 had received 1209 the word 3056 of God 2316, they sent 649 them Peter 4074 and John 2491,

 8:15 who 3748 came 2597 down 2597 and prayed 4336 for them that they might receive 2983 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.

 8:16 For He had not yet 3764 fallen 1968 upon any 3762 of them; they had simply 3440 been 5225 baptized 907 in the name 3686 of the Lord 2962 Jesus 2424.

 8:17 Then 5119 they [began] laying 2007 their hands 5495 on them, and they were receiving 2983 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.

 8:18 Now 1161 when Simon 4613 saw 3708 that the Spirit 4151 was bestowed 1325 through 1223 the laying 1936 on of the apostles’ 652 hands 5495, he offered 4374 them money 5536,

 8:19 saying 3004, “Give 1325 this 3778 authority 1849 to me as well 2532, so 2443 that everyone 1437 on whom 3739 I lay 2007 my hands 5495 may receive 2983 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.”

 8:20 But Peter 4074 said 3004 to him, “May your silver 694 perish 684 with you, because 3754 you thought 3543 you could obtain 2932 the gift 1431 of God 2316 with money 5536!

 8:21 “You have no 3756 part 3310 or 3761 portion 2819 in this 3778 matter 3056, for your heart 2588 is not right 2117 before 1725 God 2316.

 8:22 “Therefore 3767 repent 3340 of this 3778 wickedness 2549 of yours 4771, and pray 1189a the Lord 2962 that, if 1487 possible 686, the intention 1963 of your heart 2588 may be forgiven 863 you.

 8:23 “For I see 3708 that you are in the gall 5521 of bitterness 4088 and in the bondage 4886 of iniquity 93.”

 8:24 But Simon 4613 answered 611 and said 3004, “Pray 1189a to the Lord 2962 for me yourselves 4771, so 3704 that nothing 3367 of what 3739 you have said 3004 may come 1904 upon me.”

 8:25 ¶ So 3767, when they had solemnly 1263 testified 1263 and spoken 2980 the word 3056 of the Lord 2962, they started 5290 back 5290 to Jerusalem 2414, and were preaching 2097 the gospel 2097 to many 4183 villages 2968 of the Samaritans 4541.

 8:26 ¶ But an angel 32a of the Lord 2962 spoke 2980 to Philip 5376 saying 3004, “Get 450 up and go 4198 south 3314 to the road 3598 that descends 2597 from Jerusalem 2419 to Gaza 1048.” (This 3778 is a desert 2048 [road].)

 8:27 So 2532 he got 450 up and went 4198; and there was an Ethiopian 128 eunuch 2135, a court 1413 official 1413 of Candace 2582, queen 938 of the Ethiopians 128, who 3739 was in charge 1909 of all 3956 her treasure 1047; and he had come 2064 to Jerusalem 2419 to worship 4352,

 8:28 and he was returning 5290 and sitting 2521 in his chariot 716, and was reading 314 the prophet 4396 Isaiah 2268.

 8:29 Then 2532 the Spirit 4151 said 3004 to Philip 5376, “Go 4334 up and join 2853 this 3778 chariot 716.”

 8:30 Philip 5376 ran 4370 up and heard 191 him reading 314 Isaiah 2268 the prophet 4396, and said 3004, “Do you understand 1097 what 3739 you are reading 314?”

 8:31 And he said 3004, “Well 1063, how 4459 could 1410 I, unless 1437 3361 someone 5100 guides 3594 me?” And he invited 3870 Philip 5376 to come 305 up and sit 2523 with him.

 8:32 Now 1161 the passage 4042 of Scripture 1124 which 3739 he was reading 314 was this 3778: “HE WAS LED 71 AS A SHEEP 4263b TO SLAUGHTER 4967; AND AS A LAMB 286 BEFORE 1727 ITS SHEARER 2751 IS SILENT 880, SO 3779 HE DOES NOT OPEN 455 HIS MOUTH 4750.

 8:33 “IN HUMILIATION 5014 HIS JUDGMENT 2920 WAS TAKEN 142 AWAY 142; WHO 5101 WILL RELATE 1334 HIS GENERATION 1074? FOR HIS LIFE 2222 IS REMOVED 142 FROM THE EARTH 1093.”

 8:34 The eunuch 2135 answered 611 Philip 5376 and said 3004, “Please 1189a [tell me], of whom 5101 does the prophet 4396 say 3004 this 3778? Of himself 1438 or 2228 of someone 5100 else 2087?”

 8:35 Then 2532 Philip 5376 opened 455 his mouth 4750, and beginning 757 from this 3778 Scripture 1124 he preached 2097 Jesus 2424 to him.

 8:36 As they went 4198 along 2596 the road 3598 they came 2064 to some 5100 water 5204; and the eunuch 2135 *said 5346, “Look 2400! Water 5204! What 5101 prevents 2967 me from being baptized 907?”

 8:37 [[And Philip 5376 said 3004, “If 1487 you believe 4100 with all 3650 your heart 2588, you may 1832.” And he answered 611 and said 3004, “I believe 4100 that Jesus 2424 Christ 5547 is the Son 5207 of God 2316.”]]

 8:38 And he ordered 2753 the chariot 716 to stop 2476; and they both 297 went 2597 down 2597 into the water 5204, Philip 5376 as well 5037 as the eunuch 2135, and he baptized 907 him.

 8:39 When 3753 they came 305 up out of the water 5204, the Spirit 4151 of the Lord 2962 snatched 726 Philip 5376 away 726; and the eunuch 2135 no 3765 longer 3765 saw 3708 him, but went 4198 on his way 3598 rejoicing 5463.

 8:40 But Philip 5376 found 2147 himself at Azotus 108, and as he passed 1330 through 1330 he kept preaching 2097 the gospel 2097 to all 3956 the cities 4172 until 2193 he came 2064 to Caesarea 2542.
