Acts 13

1 Paul and Barnabas are chosen to go to the Gentiles. 7 Of Sergius Paulus, and Elymas the sorcerer. 14 Paul preacheth at Antioch, that Jesus is Chist. 42 The Gentiles believe: 45 but the Jews gainsay and blaspheme: 46 whereupon they turn to the Gentiles. 48 As many as were ordained to live believed.

 13:1 Now 1161 there were at Antioch 490, in the church 1577 that was [there], prophets 4396 and teachers 1320: Barnabas 921, and Simeon 4826 who was called 2564 Niger 3526, and Lucius 3066 of Cyrene 2956, and Manaen 3127 who had been brought 4939 up with Herod 2264 the tetrarch 5068a, and Saul 4569.

 13:2 While they were ministering 3008 to the Lord 2962 and fasting 3522, the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 said 3004, “Set 873 apart 873 for Me Barnabas 921 and Saul 4569 for the work 2041 to which 3739 I have called 4341 them.”

 13:3 Then 5119, when they had fasted 3522 and prayed 4336 and laid 2007 their hands 5495 on them, they sent 630 them away 630.

 13:4 ¶ So 3767, being sent 1599 out by the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, they went 2718 down 2718 to Seleucia 4581 and from there 1564 they sailed 636 to Cyprus 2954.

 13:5 When they reached 1096 Salamis 4529, they [began] to proclaim 2605 the word 3056 of God 2316 in the synagogues 4864 of the Jews 2453; and they also 2532 had 2192 John 2491 as their helper 5257.

 13:6 When they had gone 1330 through 1330 the whole 3650 island 3520 as far 891 as Paphos 3974, they found 2147 a magician 3097, a Jewish 2453 false 5578 prophet 5578 whose 3739 name 3686 was Bar-Jesus 919,

 13:7 who 3739 was with the proconsul 446, Sergius 4588a Paulus 3972, a man 435 of intelligence 4908. This 3778 man 3778 summoned 4341 Barnabas 921 and Saul 4569 and sought 1934 to hear 191 the word 3056 of God 2316.

 13:8 But Elymas 1681 the magician 3097 (for so 3779 his name 3686 is translated 3177) was opposing 436 them, seeking 2212 to turn 1294 the proconsul 446 away 1294 from the faith 4102.

 13:9 But Saul 4569, who 3588 was also 2532 [known as] Paul 3972, filled 4092a with the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, fixed 816 his gaze 816 on him,

 13:10 and said 3004, “You who are full 4134 of all 3956 deceit 1388 and fraud 4468, you son 5207 of the devil 1228, you enemy 2190 of all 3956 righteousness 1343, will you not cease 3973 to make 1294 crooked 1294 the straight 2117 ways 3598 of the Lord 2962?

 13:11 “Now 3568, behold 2400, the hand 5495 of the Lord 2962 is upon you, and you will be blind 5185 and not see 991 the sun 2246 for a time 2540.” And immediately 3916 a mist 887 and a darkness 4655 fell 4098 upon him, and he went 4013 about 4013 seeking 2212 those who 5497 would lead 5497 him by the hand 5497.

 13:12 Then 5119 the proconsul 446 believed 4100 when he saw 3708 what had happened 1096, being amazed 1605 at the teaching 1322 of the Lord 2962.

 13:13 ¶ Now 1161 Paul 3972 and his companions 3588 4012 put 321 out to sea 321 from Paphos 3974 and came 2064 to Perga 4011 in Pamphylia 3828; but John 2491 left 672 them and returned 5290 to Jerusalem 2414.

 13:14 But going 1330 on from Perga 4011, they arrived 3854 at Pisidian 4099 Antioch 490, and on the Sabbath 4521 day 2250 they went 2064 into the synagogue 4864 and sat 2523 down 2523.

 13:15 After 3326 the reading 320 of the Law 3551 and the Prophets 4396 the synagogue 752 officials 752 sent 649 to them, saying 3004, “Brethren 435 80, if 1487 you have any 5100 word 3056 of exhortation 3874 for the people 2992, say 3004 it.”

 13:16 Paul 3972 stood 450 up, and motioning 2678 with his hand 5495 said 3004, ¶ “Men 435 of Israel 2475a, and you who fear 5399 God 2316, listen 191:

 13:17 “The God 2316 of this 3778 people 2992 Israel 2274 chose 1586 our fathers 3962 and made 5312 the people 2992 great 5312 during 1722 their stay 3940 in the land 1093 of Egypt 125, and with an uplifted 5308 arm 1023 He led 1806 them out from it.

 13:18 “For a period 5550 of about 5613 forty 5066a years 5066a He put 5159 up with them in the wilderness 2048.

 13:19 “When He had destroyed 2507 seven 2033 nations 1484 in the land 1093 of Canaan 5477, He distributed 2624 their land 1093 as an inheritance 2624—[all of which took] about 5613 four 5071 hundred 5071 and fifty 4004 years 2094.

 13:20 “After 3326 these 3778 things 3778 He gave 1325 [them] judges 2923 until 2193 Samuel 4545 the prophet 4396.

 13:21 “Then 2532 they asked 154 for a king 935, and God 2316 gave 1325 them Saul 4549 the son 5207 of Kish 2797, a man 435 of the tribe 5443 of Benjamin 958, for forty 5065b years 2094.

 13:22 “After 2596 He had removed 3179 him, He raised 1453 up David 1160b to be their king 935, concerning whom 3739 He also 2532 testified 3140 and said 3004, ‘I HAVE FOUND 2147 DAVID 1160b the son of Jesse 2421, A MAN 435 AFTER 2596 MY HEART 2588, who 3739 will do 4160 all 3956 My will 2307.’

 13:23 “From the descendants 4690 of this 3778 man 3778, according 2596 to promise 1860, God 2316 has brought 71 to Israel 2274 a Savior 4990, Jesus 2424,

 13:24 after John 2491 had proclaimed 4296 before 4253 His coming 4383 1529 a baptism 908 of repentance 3341 to all 3956 the people 2992 of Israel 2274.

 13:25 “And while 5613 John 2491 was completing 4137 his course 1408, he kept saying 3004, ‘What 5101 do you suppose 5282 that I am 1510? I am 1510 not [He]. But behold 2400, one is coming 2064 after 3326 me the sandals 5266 of whose 3739 feet 4228 I am 1510 not worthy 514 to untie 3089.’

 13:26 ¶ “Brethren 435 80, sons 5207 of Abraham’s 11 family 1085, and those 3588 among 1722 you who fear 5399 God 2316, to us the message 3056 of this 3778 salvation 4991 has been sent 1821.

 13:27 “For those 3588 who live 2730 in Jerusalem 2419, and their rulers 758, recognizing 50 neither Him nor 2532 the utterances 5456 of the prophets 4396 which are read 314 every 3956 Sabbath 4521, fulfilled 4137 [these] by condemning 2919 [Him].

 13:28 “And though they found 2147 no 3367 ground 156 for [putting Him to] death, they asked 154 Pilate 4091 that He be executed 337.

 13:29 “When 5613 they had carried 5055 out all 3956 that was written 1125 concerning 4012 Him, they took 2507 Him down 2507 from the cross 3586 and laid 5087 Him in a tomb 3419.

 13:30 “But God 2316 raised 1453 Him from the dead 3498;

 13:31 and for many 4183 days 2250 He appeared 3708 to those 3588 who came 4872 up with Him from Galilee 1056 to Jerusalem 2419, the very ones 3748 who 3748 are now 3568 His witnesses 3144 to the people 2992.

 13:32 “And we preach 2097 to you the good 2097 news 2097 of the promise 1860 made 1096 to the fathers 3962,

 13:33 that God 2316 has fulfilled 1603 this 3778 [promise] to our children 5043 in that He raised 450 up Jesus 2424, as it is also 2532 written 1125 in the second 1208 Psalm 5568, ‘YOU ARE MY SON 5207; TODAY 4594 I HAVE BEGOTTEN 1080 YOU.’

 13:34 “[As for the fact] that He raised 450 Him up from the dead 3498, no 3371 longer 3371 to return 5290 to decay 1312, He has spoken 3004 in this 3779 way 3779: ‘I WILL GIVE 1325 YOU THE HOLY 3741 [and] SURE 4103 [blessings] OF DAVID 1160b.’

 13:35 “Therefore 1360 He also 2532 says 3004 in another 2087 [Psalm], ‘YOU WILL NOT ALLOW 1325 YOUR HOLY 3741 ONE 3741 TO UNDERGO 3708 DECAY 1312.’

 13:36 “For David 1160b, after he had served 5256 the purpose 1012 of God 2316 in his own 2398 generation 1074, fell 2837 asleep 2837, and was laid 4369 among 4314 his fathers 3962 and underwent 3708 decay 1312;

 13:37 but He whom 3739 God 2316 raised 1453 did not undergo 3708 decay 1312.

 13:38 “Therefore 3767 let it be known 1110 to you, brethren 435 80, that through 1223 Him forgiveness 859 of sins 266 is proclaimed 2605 to you,

 13:39 and through 1722 Him everyone 3956 who believes 4100 is freed 1344 from all 3956 things 3956, from which 3739 you could 1410 not be freed 1344 through 1722 the Law 3551 of Moses 3475.

 13:40 “Therefore 3767 take 991 heed 991, so 3361 that the thing 3004 spoken 3004 of in the Prophets 4396 may not come 1904 upon [you]:

 13:41 ‘BEHOLD 3708, YOU SCOFFERS 2707, AND MARVEL 2296, AND PERISH 853; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING 2038b A WORK 2041 IN YOUR DAYS 2250, A WORK 2041 WHICH 3739 YOU WILL NEVER 3756 3361 BELIEVE 4100, THOUGH 1437 SOMEONE 5100 SHOULD DESCRIBE 1555 IT TO YOU.’”

 13:42 ¶ As Paul and Barnabas were going 1826 out, the people kept begging 3870 that these 3778 things 4487 might be spoken 2980 to them the next 3342 Sabbath 4521.

 13:43 Now 1161 when [the meeting of] the synagogue 4864 had broken 3089 up, many 4183 of the Jews 2453 and of the God-fearing 4576 proselytes 4339 followed 190 Paul 3972 and Barnabas 921, who 3748, speaking 4354 to them, were urging 3982 them to continue 4357 in the grace 5485 of God 2316.

 13:44 ¶ The next 2064 Sabbath 4521 nearly 4975 the whole 3956 city 4172 assembled 4863 to hear 191 the word 3056 of the Lord 2316.

 13:45 But when the Jews 2453 saw 3708 the crowds 3793, they were filled 4092a with jealousy 2205b and [began] contradicting 483 the things 2980 spoken 2980 by Paul 3972, and were blaspheming 987.

 13:46 Paul 3972 and Barnabas 921 spoke 3955 out boldly 3955 and said 3004, “It was necessary 316 that the word 3056 of God 2316 be spoken 2980 to you first 4413; since 1894 you repudiate 683 it and judge 2919 yourselves 1438 unworthy 3756 514 of eternal 166 life 2222, behold 2400, we are turning 4762 to the Gentiles 1484.

 13:47 “For so 3779 the Lord 2962 has commanded 1781 us, ‘I HAVE PLACED 5087 YOU AS A LIGHT 5457 FOR THE GENTILES 1484, THAT YOU MAY BRING 1510 1519 SALVATION 4991 TO THE END 2078 OF THE EARTH 1093.’”

 13:48 ¶ When the Gentiles 1484 heard 191 this, they [began] rejoicing 5463 and glorifying 1392 the word 3056 of the Lord 2962; and as many 3745 as had been 1510 appointed 5021 to eternal 166 life 2222 believed 4100.

 13:49 And the word 3056 of the Lord 2962 was being spread 1308 through 1223 the whole 3650 region 5561.

 13:50 But the Jews 2453 incited 3951 the devout 4576 women 1135 of prominence 2158 and the leading 4413 men 4413 of the city 4172, and instigated 1892 a persecution 1375 against 1909 Paul 3972 and Barnabas 921, and drove 1544b them out of their district 3725.

 13:51 But they shook 1621 off 1621 the dust 2868 of their feet 4228 [in protest] against 1909 them and went 2064 to Iconium 2430.

 13:52 And the disciples 3101 were continually filled 4137 with joy 5479 and with the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.
