 21:1 ¶
And Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Joran his son reigned in his stead. |
|
 21:1 ¶
Now Jehoshaphatº
sleptºº
withº
his fathers,º
and was buriedºº
withº
his fathersº
in the cityº
of David.º
And Jehoramº
his sonº
reignedºº
in his stead.º |
 21:2
And he had brothers, the six sons of Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, Azariah{gr.Azarias}, and Jehiel{gr.Jeiel}, and Zechariah{gr.Zacharias}, and Azariah{gr.Azarias}, and Michael, and Zaphatias: all these [were] the sons of Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat} king of Judah{gr.Juda}. |
 21:2
And he had brethrenº
the sonsº
of Jehoshaphat,º
Azariah,º
and Jehiel,º
and Zechariah,º
and Azariah,º
and Michael,º
and Shephatiah:º
allº
theseº
[were] the sonsº
of Jehoshaphatº
kingº
of Israel.º |
 21:3
And their father gave them many gifts, silver, and gold, and arms, together with fortified cities in Judah{gr.Juda}: but he gave the kingdom to Joram, for he [was] the first-born. |
 21:3
And their fatherº
gaveºº
them greatº
giftsº
of silver,º
and of gold,º
and of precious things,º
withº
fencedº
citiesº
in Judah:º
but the kingdomº
gaveºº
he to Jehoram;º
becauseº
heº
[was] the firstborn.º |
 21:4
And Joram entered upon his kingdom, and strengthened himself, and slew all his brothers with the sword, and [some] of the princes of Israel. |
 21:4
Now when Jehoramº
was risen upºº
toº
the kingdomº
of his father,º
he strengthenedºº
himself,º
and slewººº
allº
his brethrenº
with the sword,º
and [divers] alsoº
of the princesºº
of Israel.º |
 21:5 ¶
When he was thirty and two years old, Joram succeeded to his kingdom, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
 21:5 ¶
Jehoramº
[was] thirtyº
and twoº
yearsº
oldº
when he began to reign,ºº
and he reignedºº
eightº
yearsº
in Jerusalem.º |
 21:6
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab{gr.Achaab}; for a daughter of Ahab{gr.Achaab} was his wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: |
 21:6
And he walkedººº
in the wayº
of the kingsº
of Israel,º
like asº
didºº
the houseº
of Ahab:º
forº
he hadº
the daughterº
of Ahabº
to wife:º
and he wroughtºº
[that which was] evilº
in the eyesº
of Yahweh.º |
 21:7
nevertheless the Lord would not utterly destroy the house of David, because of the covenant which he made with David, and as he said to him that he would give a light to him and his sons for ever. |
 21:7
Howbeit Yahwehº
wouldºº
notº
destroyººº
the houseº
of David,º
because ofº
the covenantº
thatº
he had madeºº
with David,º
and asº
he promisedºº
to giveºº
a lightº
to him and to his sonsº
for ever.ºº |
 21:8 ¶
In those days Edom revolted from Judah{gr.Juda}, and they made a king over themselves. |
 21:8 ¶
In his daysº
the Edomitesº
revoltedºº
from underºº
the dominionº
of Judah,º
and madeººº
themselves a king.º |
 21:9
And Joram went with the princes, and all the cavalry with him: and it came to pass that he arose by night, and smote Edom that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots, and the people fled to their tents. |
 21:9
Then Jehoramº
went forthºº
withº
his princes,º
and allº
his chariotsº
withº
him: and he rose upººº
by night,º
and smoteººº
the Edomitesº
which compassedºº
him in,ºº
and the captainsº
of the chariots.º |
 21:10
And Edom revolted from Judah{gr.Juda} until this day. Then Lomna at that time revolted from [under] his hand, because he forsook the Lord God of his fathers. |
 21:10
So the Edomitesº
revoltedºº
from underºº
the handº
of Judahº
untoº
thisº
day.º
The sameº
timeº
[also] did Libnahº
revoltºº
from underºº
his hand;º
becauseº
he had forsakenººº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of his fathers.º |
 21:11
For he built high places in the cities of Judah{gr.Juda}, and caused the dwellers in Jerusalem to go a-whoring, and led Judah{gr.Juda} astray. |
 21:11
Moreoverº
heº
madeºº
high placesº
in the mountainsº
of Judah,º
and causedº
the inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalemº
to commit fornication,ºº
and compelledººº
Judahº
[thereto]. |
 21:12 ¶
And there came to him [a message] in writing from Elijah{gr.Eliu} the prophet, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of thy father David, Because thou hast not walked in the way of thy father Jehoshaphat{gr.Josaphat}, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah{gr.Juda}, |
 21:12 ¶
And there cameºº
a writingº
toº
him from Elijahºº
the prophet,º
saying,ºº
Thusº
saithºº
Yahwehº
Elohimº
of Davidº
thy father,º
Becauseºº
thou hast notº
walkedºº
in the waysº
of Jehoshaphatº
thy father,º
nor in the waysº
of Asaº
kingº
of Judah,º |
 21:13
but hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast caused Judah{gr.Juda} and the dwellers in Jerusalem to go a-whoring, as the house of Ahab{gr.Achaab} caused [Israel] to go a-whoring, and thou hast slain thy brethren, the sons of thy father, who were better than thyself; |
 21:13
But hast walkedººº
in the wayº
of the kingsº
of Israel,º
and hast madeº
Judahº
and the inhabitantsºº
of Jerusalemº
to go a whoring,ºº
like to the whoredomsºº
of the houseº
of Ahab,º
and alsoº
hast slainººº
thy brethrenº
of thy father'sº
house,º
[which were] betterº
thanº
thyself: |
 21:14
behold, the Lord shall smite thee with a great plague among thy people, and thy sons, and thy wives, and all thy store: |
 21:14
Behold,º
with a greatº
plagueº
will Yahwehº
smiteºº
thy people,º
and thy children,º
and thy wives,º
and allº
thy goods:º |
 21:15
and thou [shalt be afflicted] with a grievous disease, with a disease of the bowels, until thy bowels shall fall out day by day with the sickness. |
 21:15
And thouº
[shalt have] greatº
sicknessº
by diseaseº
of thy bowels,º
untilº
thy bowelsº
fall outºº
by reason ofº
the sicknessº
dayº
byº
day.º |
 21:16 ¶
So the Lord stirred up the Philistines against Joram, and the Arabians, and those who bordered on the Aethiopians: |
 21:16 ¶
Moreover Yahwehº
stirred upºº
againstº
Jehoramºº
the spiritº
of the Philistines,º
and of the Arabians,º
thatº
[were] nearºº
the Ethiopians:º |
 21:17
and they went up against Judah{gr.Juda}, and prevailed against them, and took away all the store which they found in the house of the king, and his sons, and his daughters; and there was no son left to him but Ahaziah{gr.Ochozias} the youngest of his sons. |
 21:17
And they came upºº
into Judah,º
and brakeºº
intoº
it, and carried awayººº
allº
the substanceº
that was foundºº
in the king'sº
house,º
and his sonsº
also,º
and his wives;º
so that there was neverº
a sonº
leftºº
him, saveºº
Jehoahaz,º
the youngestº
of his sons.º |
 21:18 ¶
And after all these things the Lord smote him in the bowels with an incurable disease. |
 21:18 ¶
And afterº
allº
thisº
Yahwehº
smoteºº
him in his bowelsº
with an incurableºº
disease.º |
 21:19
And it continued from day to day: and when the time of the days came [to] two years, his bowels fell out with the disease, and he died by a grievous distemper: and his people performed no funeral, like the funeral of his fathers. |
 21:19
And it came to pass,º
that in process of time,ºº
afterººº
the endººº
of twoº
years,º
his bowelsº
fell outºº
by reasonº
ofº
his sickness:º
so he diedºº
of soreº
diseases.º
And his peopleº
madeºº
noº
burningº
for him, like the burningº
of his fathers.º |
 21:20
He was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed without honour, and was buried in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings. |
 21:20
Thirtyº
and twoº
years oldº
wasº
he when he began to reign,ºº
and he reignedºº
in Jerusalemº
eightº
years,º
and departedººº
withoutº
being desired.º
Howbeit they buriedºº
him in the cityº
of David,º
but notº
in the sepulchresº
of the kings.º |
