Mark 7

1 The Pharisees find fault at the disciples for eating with unwashen hands. 8 They break the commandment of God by the traditions of men. 14 Meat defileth not the man. 24 He healeth the Syrophenician woman's daughter of an unclean spirit, 31 and one that was deaf, and stammered in his speech.

 7:1 The Pharisees 5330 and some 5100 of the scribes 1122 gathered 4863 around 4314 Him when they had come 2064 from Jerusalem 2414,

 7:2 and had seen 3708 that some 5100 of His disciples 3101 were eating 2068 their bread 740 with impure 2839 hands 5495, that is, unwashed 449.

 7:3 (For the Pharisees 5330 and all 3956 the Jews 2453 do not eat 2068 unless 1437 3361 they carefully 4435 wash 3538 their hands 5495, [thus] observing 2902 the traditions 3862 of the elders 4245;

 7:4 and [when they come] from the market 58 place 58, they do not eat 2068 unless 1437 3361 they cleanse 4472 themselves; and there are many 4183 other 243 things 4183 which 3739 they have received 3880 in order to observe 2902, such as the washing 909 of cups 4221 and pitchers 3582 and copper 5473 pots 5473.)

 7:5 The Pharisees 5330 and the scribes 1122 *asked 1905 Him, “Why 1223 5101 do Your disciples 3101 not walk 4043 according 2596 to the tradition 3862 of the elders 4245, but eat 2068 their bread 740 with impure 2839 hands 5495?”

 7:6 And He said 3004 to them, “Rightly 2573 did Isaiah 2268 prophesy 4395 of you hypocrites 5273, as it is written 1125: ‘THIS 3778 PEOPLE 2992 HONORS 5091 ME WITH THEIR LIPS 5491, BUT THEIR HEART 2588 IS FAR 4206 AWAY 568 4206 FROM ME.

 7:7 ‘BUT IN VAIN 3155 DO THEY WORSHIP 4576 ME, TEACHING 1321 AS DOCTRINES 1319 THE PRECEPTS 1778 OF MEN 444.’

 7:8 “Neglecting 863 the commandment 1785 of God 2316, you hold 2902 to the tradition 3862 of men 444.”

 7:9 ¶ He was also 2532 saying 3004 to them, “You are experts 2573 at setting 114 aside 114 the commandment 1785 of God 2316 in order 2443 to keep 5083 your tradition 3862.

 7:10 “For Moses 3475 said 3004, ‘HONOR 5091 YOUR FATHER 3962 AND YOUR MOTHER 3384’; and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS 2551 EVIL 2551 OF FATHER 3962 OR 2228 MOTHER 3384, IS TO BE PUT 5053 TO DEATH 2288’;

 7:11 but you say 3004, ‘If 1437 a man 444 says 3004 to [his] father 3962 or 2228 [his] mother 3384, whatever 3739 1437 I have 1473 that would help 5623 you is Corban 2878a (that is to say, given 1435 [to God]),’

 7:12 you no 3765 longer 3765 permit 863 him to do 4160 anything 3762 for [his] father 3962 or 2228 [his] mother 3384;

 7:13 [thus] invalidating 208 the word 3056 of God 2316 by your tradition 3862 which 3739 you have handed 3860 down 3860; and you do 4160 many 4183 things 4183 such 3946 as that.”

 7:14 ¶ After He called 4341 the crowd 3793 to Him again 3825, He [began] saying 3004 to them, “Listen 191 to Me, all 3956 of you, and understand 4920:

 7:15 there is nothing 3762 outside 1855 the man 444 which can 1410 defile 2840 him if it goes 1531 into him; but the things which proceed 1607 out of the man 444 are what defile 2840 the man 444.

 7:16 [[“If 1487 anyone 5100 has 2192 ears 3775 to hear 191, let him hear 191.”]]

 7:17 ¶ When 3753 he had left 575 the crowd 3793 [and] entered 1525 the house 3624, His disciples 3101 questioned 1905 Him about the parable 3850b.

 7:18 And He *said 3004 to them, “Are you so 3779 lacking 801 in understanding 801 also 2532? Do you not understand 3539 that whatever 3956 goes 1531 into the man 444 from outside 1855 cannot 1410 3756 defile 2840 him,

 7:19 because 3754 it does not go 1531 into his heart 2588, but into his stomach 2836, and is eliminated 1519 856 1607?” ([Thus He] declared 2511 all 3956 foods 1033 clean 2511.)

 7:20 And He was saying 3004, “That which proceeds 1607 out of the man 444, that is what defiles 2840 the man 444.

 7:21 “For from within 2081, out of the heart 2588 of men 444, proceed 1607 the evil 2556 thoughts 1261, fornications 4202, thefts 2829, murders 5408, adulteries 3430,

 7:22 deeds 4124 of coveting 4124 [and] wickedness 4189, [as well as] deceit 1388, sensuality 766, envy 3788 4190, slander 988, pride 5243 [and] foolishness 877.

 7:23 “All 3956 these 3778 evil 4190 things 4190 proceed 1607 from within 2081 and defile 2840 the man 444.”

 7:24 ¶ Jesus got 450 up and went 565 away 565 from there 1564 to the region 3725 of Tyre 5184. And when He had entered 1525 a house 3614, He wanted 2309 no 3762 one 3762 to know 1097 [of it]; yet 2532 He could 1410 not escape 2990 notice 2990.

 7:25 But after hearing 191 of Him, a woman 1135 whose 3739 little 2365 daughter 2365 had 2192 an unclean 169 spirit 4151 immediately 2117 came 2064 and fell 4363 at His feet 4228.

 7:26 Now 1161 the woman 1135 was a Gentile 1674, of the Syrophoenician 4949 race 1085. And she kept asking 2065 Him to cast 1544b the demon 1140 out of her daughter 2364.

 7:27 And He was saying 3004 to her, “Let 863 the children 5043 be satisfied 5526 first 4413, for it is not good 2570 to take 2983 the children’s 5043 bread 740 and throw 906 it to the dogs 2952.”

 7:28 But she answered 611 and *said 3004 to Him, “Yes 3483a, Lord 2962, [but] even 2532 the dogs 2952 under 5270 the table 5132 feed 2068 on the children’s 3813 crumbs 5589.”

 7:29 And He said 3004 to her, “Because 1223 of this 3778 answer 3056 go 5217; the demon 1140 has gone 1831 out of your daughter 2364.”

 7:30 And going 565 back 565 to her home 3624, she found 2147 the child 3813 lying 906 on the bed 2825b, the demon 1140 having left 1831.

 7:31 ¶ Again 3825 He went 1831 out from the region 3725 of Tyre 5184, and came 2064 through 1223 Sidon 4605 to the Sea 2281 of Galilee 1056, within 303 3319 the region 3725 of Decapolis 1179.

 7:32 They *brought 5342 to Him one 2974 who 2974 was deaf 2974 and spoke 3424 with difficulty 3424, and they *implored 3870 Him to lay 2007 His hand 5495 on him.

 7:33 Jesus took 618 him aside 618 from the crowd 3793, by himself 2398, and put 906 His fingers 1147 into his ears 3775, and after spitting 4429, He touched 681 his tongue 1100 [with the saliva];

 7:34 and looking 308 up to heaven 3772 with a deep 4727 sigh 4727, He *said 3004 to him, “Ephphatha 2188!” that is, “Be opened 1272!”

 7:35 And his ears 189 were opened 455, and the impediment 1199 of his tongue 1100 was removed 3089, and he [began] speaking 2980 plainly 3723.

 7:36 And He gave 1291 them orders 1291 not to tell 3004 anyone 3367; but the more 3745 He ordered 1291 them, the more 3123 widely 4053 they continued to proclaim 2784 it.

 7:37 They were utterly 5249 astonished 1605, saying 3004, “He has done 4160 all 3956 things 3956 well 2573; He makes 4160 even 2532 the deaf 2974 to hear 191 and the mute 216 to speak 2980.”
