Mark 12

1 In a parable of the vineyard let out to unthankful husbandmen, Christ foretelleth the reprobation of the Jews, and the calling of the Gentiles. 13 He avoideth the snare of the Pharisees and Herodians about paying tribute to Cesar: 18 convinceth the error of the Sadducees, who denied the resurrection: 28 resolveth the scribe, who questioned of the first commandment: 35 refuseth the opinion that the scribes held of Christ: 28 bidding the people to beware of their ambition and hypocrisy: 41 and commendeth the poor widow for her two mites, above all.

 12:1 And He began 757 to speak 2980 to them in parables 3850b: “A man 444 PLANTED 5452 A VINEYARD 290 AND PUT 4060 A WALL 5418 AROUND 4060 IT, AND DUG 3736 A VAT 5276 UNDER 5276 THE WINE 5276 PRESS 5276 AND BUILT 3618 A TOWER 4444, and rented 1554 it out to vine-growers 1092 and went 589 on a journey 589.

 12:2 “At the [harvest] time 2540 he sent 649 a slave 1401 to the vine-growers 1092, in order 2443 to receive 2983 [some] of the produce 2590 of the vineyard 290 from the vine-growers 1092.

 12:3 “They took 2983 him, and beat 1194 him and sent 649 him away 649 empty-handed 2756.

 12:4 “Again 3825 he sent 649 them another 243 slave 1401, and they wounded 2775 him in the head 2775, and treated 718 him shamefully 818.

 12:5 “And he sent 649 another 243, and that one 2548 they killed 615; and [so with] many 4183 others 243, beating 1194 some 3739 3303a and killing 615 others 3739 1161.

 12:6 “He had 2192 one 1520 more 2089 [to send], a beloved 27 son 5207; he sent 649 him last 2078 [of all] to them, saying 3004, ‘They will respect 1788 my son 5207.’

 12:7 “But those 1565 vine-growers 1092 said 3004 to one 1438 another 1438, ‘This 3778 is the heir 2818; come 1205, let us kill 615 him, and the inheritance 2817 will be ours 1473!’

 12:8 “They took 2983 him, and killed 615 him and threw 1544b him out of the vineyard 290.

 12:9 “What 5101 will the owner 2962 of the vineyard 290 do 4160? He will come 2064 and destroy 622 the vine-growers 1092, and will give 1325 the vineyard 290 to others 243.

 12:10 “Have you not even 3761 read 314 this 3778 Scripture 1124: ‘THE STONE 3037 WHICH 3739 THE BUILDERS 3618 REJECTED 593, THIS 3778 BECAME 1096 THE CHIEF 2776 CORNER 1137 [stone];

 12:11 THIS 3778 CAME 1096 ABOUT FROM THE LORD 2962, AND IT IS MARVELOUS 2298 IN OUR EYES 3788’?”

 12:12 ¶ And they were seeking 2212 to seize 2902 Him, and [yet] they feared 5399 the people 3793, for they understood 1097 that He spoke 3004 the parable 3850b against 4314 them. And [so] they left 863 Him and went 565 away 565.

 12:13 ¶ Then 2532 they *sent 649 some 5100 of the Pharisees 5330 and Herodians 2265 to Him in order 2443 to trap 64 Him in a statement 3056.

 12:14 They *came 2064 and *said 3004 to Him, “Teacher 1320, we know 3609a that You are truthful 227 and defer 3199 to no 3762 one 3762; for You are not partial 991 4383 to any 444, but teach 1321 the way 3598 of God 2316 in truth 225. Is it lawful 1832 to pay 1325 a poll-tax 2778b to Caesar 2541, or 2228 not?

 12:15 “Shall we pay 1325 or 2228 shall we not pay 1325?” But He, knowing 3609a their hypocrisy 5272, said 3004 to them, “Why 5101 are you testing 3985 Me? Bring 5342 Me a denarius 1220 to look 3708 at.”

 12:16 They brought 5342 [one]. And He *said 3004 to them, “Whose 5101 likeness 1504 and inscription 1923 is this 3778?” And they said 3004 to Him, “Caesar’s 2541.”

 12:17 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “Render 591 to Caesar 2541 the things that are Caesar’s 2541, and to God 2316 the things that are God’s 2316.” And they were amazed 1569b at Him.

 12:18 ¶ [Some] Sadducees 4523 (who 3748 say 3004 that there is no 3361 resurrection 386) *came 2064 to Jesus, and [began] questioning 1905 Him, saying 3004,

 12:19 “Teacher 1320, Moses 3475 wrote 1125 for us that IF 1437 A MAN’S 5100 BROTHER 80 DIES 599 and leaves 2641 behind 2641 a wife 1135 AND LEAVES 863 NO 3361 CHILD 5043, HIS BROTHER 80 SHOULD MARRY 2983 THE WIFE 1135 AND RAISE 1817 UP CHILDREN 4690 TO HIS BROTHER 80.

 12:20 “There were seven 2033 brothers 80; and the first 4413 took 2983 a wife 1135, and died 599 leaving 863 no 3756 children 4690.

 12:21 “The second 1208 one 1208 married 2983 her, and died 599 leaving 2641 behind 2641 no 3361 children 4690; and the third 5154 likewise 5615;

 12:22 and [so] all 3588 seven 2033 left 863 no 3756 children 4690. Last 2078 of all 3956 the woman 1135 died 599 also 2532.

 12:23 “In the resurrection 386, when 3752 they rise 450 again 450, which 5101 one’s 846 wife 1135 will she be? For all 3588 seven 2033 had 2192 married her.”

 12:24 Jesus 2424 said 5346 to them, “Is this 3778 not the reason 1223 you are mistaken 4105, that you do not understand 3609a the Scriptures 1124 or 3366 the power 1411 of God 2316?

 12:25 “For when 3752 they rise 450 from the dead 3498, they neither 3777 marry 1060 nor 3777 are given 1061a in marriage 1061a, but are like 5613 angels 32a in heaven 3772.

 12:26 “But regarding 4012 the fact 3754 that the dead 3498 rise 1453 again 1453, have you not read 314 in the book 976 of Moses 3475, in the [passage] about 1909 [the burning] bush 942, how 4459 God 2316 spoke 3004 to him, saying 3004, ‘I AM THE GOD 2316 OF ABRAHAM 11, AND THE GOD 2316 OF ISAAC 2464, AND THE GOD 2316 OF JACOB 2384’?

 12:27 “He is not the God 2316 of the dead 3498, but of the living 2198; you are greatly 4183 mistaken 4105.”

 12:28 ¶ One 1520 of the scribes 1122 came 4334 and heard 191 them arguing 4802, and recognizing 3708 that He had answered 611 them well 2573, asked 1905 Him, “What 4169 commandment 1785 is the foremost 4413 of all 3956?”

 12:29 Jesus 2424 answered 611, “The foremost 4413 is, ‘HEAR 191, O ISRAEL 2474! THE LORD 2962 OUR GOD 2316 IS ONE 1520 LORD 2962;

 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE 25 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316 WITH ALL 3650 YOUR HEART 2588, AND WITH ALL 3650 YOUR SOUL 5590, AND WITH ALL 3650 YOUR MIND 1271, AND WITH ALL 3650 YOUR STRENGTH 2479.’

 12:31 “The second 1208 is this 3778, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 AS YOURSELF 4572.’ There is no 3756 other 243 commandment 1785 greater 3173 than these 3778.”

 12:32 The scribe 1122 said 3004 to Him, “Right 2573, Teacher 1320; You have truly 1909 225 stated 3004 that HE IS ONE 1520, AND THERE IS NO 3756 ONE 243 ELSE 243 BESIDES 4133 HIM;

 12:33 AND TO LOVE 25 HIM WITH ALL 3650 THE HEART 2588 AND WITH ALL 3650 THE UNDERSTANDING 4907 AND WITH ALL 3650 THE STRENGTH 2479, AND TO LOVE 25 ONE’S NEIGHBOR 4139 AS HIMSELF 1438, is much 4053 more 4053 than all 3956 burnt 3646 offerings 3646 and sacrifices 2378.”

 12:34 When Jesus 2424 saw 3708 that he had answered 611 intelligently 3562, He said 3004 to him, “You are not far 3112 from the kingdom 932 of God 2316.” After that, no 3762 one 3762 would venture 5111 to ask 1905 Him any 3765 more 3765 questions 1905.

 12:35 ¶ And Jesus 2424 [began] to say 3004, as He taught 1321 in the temple 2413, “How 4459 [is it that] the scribes 1122 say 3004 that the Christ 5547 is the son 5207 of David 1160b?

 12:36 “David 1160b himself 846 said 3004 in the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, ‘THE LORD 2962 SAID 3004 TO MY LORD 2962, “SIT 2521 AT MY RIGHT 1188 HAND 1188, UNTIL 2193 I PUT 5087 YOUR ENEMIES 2190 BENEATH 5270 YOUR FEET 4228.”’

 12:37 “David 1160b himself 846 calls 3004 Him ‘Lord 2962’; so 2532 in what 4159 sense 4159 is He his son 5207?” And the large 4183 crowd 3793 enjoyed 2234 listening 191 to Him.

 12:38 ¶ In His teaching 1322 He was saying 3004: “Beware 991 of the scribes 1122 who like 2309 to walk 4043 around 4043 in long 4749 robes 4749, and [like] respectful greetings 783 in the market 58 places 58,

 12:39 and chief 4410 seats 4410 in the synagogues 4864 and places 4411 of honor 4411 at banquets 1173,

 12:40 who devour 2719 widows’ 5503 houses 3614, and for appearance’s 4392 sake 4392 offer 4336 long 3117 prayers 4336; these 3778 will receive 2983 greater 4053 condemnation 2917.”

 12:41 ¶ And He sat 2523 down 2523 opposite 2713 the treasury 1049, and [began] observing 2334 how 4459 the people 4145 were putting 906 money 5475 into the treasury 1049; and many 4183 rich 4145 people 4145 were putting 906 in large 4183 sums 4183.

 12:42 A poor 4434 widow 5503 came 2064 and put 906 in two 1417 small 3016 copper 3016 coins 3016, which 3739 amount 1510 to a cent 2835.

 12:43 Calling 4341 His disciples 3101 to Him, He said 3004 to them, “Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, this 3778 poor 4434 widow 5503 put 906 in more 4183 than all 3956 the contributors 906 to the treasury 1049;

 12:44 for they all 3956 put 906 in out of their surplus 4052, but she, out of her poverty 5304, put 906 in all 3956 3745 she owned 2192, all 3650 she had to live 979 on.”
