Job 20

Zophar sheweth the state and portion of the wicked.

 20:1 Then Zophar 6691 the Naamathite 5284 answered 6030a,

 20:2 “Therefore 3651 my disquieting 8174b thoughts 8174b make me respond 7725, Even because 5668 of my inward agitation 2363a.

 20:3 “I listened 8085 to the reproof 4148 which insults 3639 me, And the spirit 7307 of my understanding 998 makes me answer 6030a.

 20:4 “Do you know 3045 this 384 from of old 5703, From the establishment 7760 of man 120 on earth 776,

 20:5 That the triumphing 7445 of the wicked 7563 is short 7138, And the joy 8057 of the godless 2611 momentary 5704 7281?

 20:6 “Though 518 his loftiness 7863 reaches 5927 the heavens 8064, And his head 7218 touches 5060 the clouds 5645,

 20:7 He perishes 6 forever 5331 like his refuse 1561; Those who have seen 7200 him will say 559, ‘Where 335 is he?’

 20:8 “He flies 5774a away 5774a like a dream 2472, and they cannot 3808 find 4672 him; Even like a vision 2384 of the night 3915 he is chased 5074 away 5074.

 20:9 “The eye 5869 which saw 7805 him sees him no 3808 longer, And his place 4725 no 3808 longer 5750 beholds 7789 him.

 20:10 “His sons 1121 favor 7521 the poor 1800b, And his hands 3027 give 7725 back 7725 his wealth 202.

 20:11 “His bones 6106 are full 4390 of his youthful 5934 vigor 5934, But it lies 7901 down 7901 with him in the dust 6083.

 20:12 ¶ “Though 518 evil 7463a is sweet 4985 in his mouth 6310 [And] he hides 3582 it under 8478 his tongue 3956,

 20:13 [Though] he desires 2550 it and will not let 5800a it go 5800a, But holds 4513 it in his mouth 2441,

 20:14 [Yet] his food 3899 in his stomach 4578 is changed 2015 To the venom 4846 of cobras 6620 within 7130 him.

 20:15 “He swallows 1104 riches 2428, But will vomit 7006a them up; God 410 will expel 3423 them from his belly 990.

 20:16 “He sucks 3243 the poison 7219 of cobras 6620; The viper’s 660 tongue 3956 slays 2026 him.

 20:17 “He does not look 7200 at the streams 6390, The rivers 5104 flowing 5158a with honey 1706 and curds 2529.

 20:18 “He returns 7725 what 3022 he has attained 3022 And cannot 3808 swallow 1104 [it]; As to the riches 2428 of his trading 8545, He cannot 3808 even enjoy 5965 [them].

 20:19 “For he has oppressed 7533 [and] forsaken 5800a the poor 1800b; He has seized 1497 a house 1004 which he has not built 1129.

 20:20 ¶ “Because 3588 he knew 3045 no 3808 quiet 7961 within 990 him, He does not retain 4422 anything he desires 2530.

 20:21 “Nothing 369 remains 8300 for him to devour 398, Therefore 5921 3651 his prosperity 2898 does not endure 2342b.

 20:22 “In the fullness 4390 of his plenty 8231a he will be cramped 6887a; The hand 3027 of everyone 3605 who 6001a suffers 6001a will come 935 [against] him.

 20:23 “When he fills 4390 his belly 990, [God] will send 7971 His fierce 2740 anger 639 on him And will rain 4305 [it] on him while he is eating 3894.

 20:24 “He may flee 1272 from the iron 1270 weapon 5402, [But] the bronze 5154 bow 7198 will pierce 2498 him.

 20:25 “It is drawn 8025 forth 8025 and comes 3318 out of his back 1465, Even the glittering 1300 point 1300 from his gall 4845. Terrors 367 come 1980 upon him,

 20:26 Complete 3605 darkness 2822 is held 2934 in reserve 2934 for his treasures 6845, And unfanned 5301 fire 784 will devour 398 him; It will consume 7462a the survivor 8300 in his tent 168.

 20:27 “The heavens 8064 will reveal 1540 his iniquity 5771, And the earth 776 will rise 6965 up against him.

 20:28 “The increase 2981 of his house 1004 will depart 1540; [His possessions] will flow 5064 away in the day 3117 of His anger 639.

 20:29 “This 2088 is the wicked 7563 man’s 120 portion 2506 from God 430, Even the heritage 5159 decreed 561 to him by God 410.”
