1 What beasts may, 4 and what may not be eaten. 9 What fishes. 13 What fowls. 29 The creeping things which are unclean.
11:1
The LORD 3068 spoke 1696 again to Moses 4872 and to Aaron 175, saying 559 to them,
11:2
“Speak 1696 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, saying 559, ‘These 2088 are the creatures 2421b which 834 you may eat 398 from all 3605 the animals 929 that are on the earth 776.
11:3
‘Whatever 3605 divides 6536 a hoof 6541, thus making 8156 split 8156 hoofs 6541, [and] chews 5927 the cud 1625, among the animals 929, that you may eat 398.
11:4
‘Nevertheless 389, you are not to eat 398 of these 2088, among those which chew 5927 the cud 1625, or among those which divide 6536 the hoof 6541: the camel 1581, for though it chews 5927 cud 1625, it does not divide 6536 the hoof 6541, it is unclean 2931 to you.
11:5
‘Likewise, the shaphan 8227a, for though it chews 5927 cud 1625, it does not divide 6536 the hoof 6541, it is unclean 2931 to you;
11:6
the rabbit 768 also, for though it chews 5927 cud 1625, it does not divide 6536 the hoof 6541, it is unclean 2931 to you;
11:7
and the pig 2386, for though it divides 6536 the hoof 6541, thus making 8156 a split 8156 hoof 6541, it does not chew 1641 cud 1625, it is unclean 2931 to you.
11:8
‘You shall not eat 398 of their flesh 1320 nor 3808 touch 5060 their carcasses 5038; they are unclean 2931 to you.
11:9
¶ ‘These 2088 you may eat 398, whatever 3605 834 is in the water 4325: all 3605 that have fins 5579 and scales 7193, those in the water 4325, in the seas 3220 or in the rivers 5158a, you may eat 398.
11:10
‘But whatever 3605 834 is in the seas 3220 and in the rivers 5158a that does not have 369 fins 5579 and scales 7193 among 4480 all 3605 the teeming 8318 life 8318 of the water 4325, and among 4480 all 3605 the living 2416a creatures 5315 that are in the water 4325, they are detestable 8263 things 8263 to you,

and they shall be abhorrent 8263 to you; you may not eat 398 of their flesh 1320, and their carcasses 5038 you shall detest 8262.

‘Whatever 3605 834 in the water 4325 does not have 369 fins 5579 and scales 7193 is abhorrent 8263 to you.
11:13
¶ ‘These 428, moreover, you shall detest 8262 among 4480 the birds 5775; they are abhorrent 8263, not to be eaten 398: the eagle 5404 and the vulture 6538 and the buzzard 5822,

and the kite 1676 and the falcon 344 in its kind 4327,

every 3605 raven 6158 in its kind 4327,

and the ostrich 3284 and the owl 8464 and the sea 7828 gull 7828 and the hawk 5322b in its kind 4327,

and the little 3563b owl 3563b and the cormorant 7994 and the great 3244 owl 3244,

and the white 8580 owl 8580 and the pelican 6893 and the carrion 7360 vulture 7360,

and the stork 2624, the heron 601 in its kinds 4327, and the hoopoe 1744, and the bat 5847.

¶ ‘All 3605 the winged 5775 insects 8318 that walk 1980 on [all] fours 702 are detestable 8263 to you.

‘Yet 389 these 2088 you may eat 398 among 4480 all 3605 the winged 5775 insects 8318 which walk 1980 on [all] fours 702: those which 834 have above 4480 4605 their feet 7272 jointed legs 3767 with which 1992a to jump 5425a on the earth 776.
11:22
‘These 428 of them you may eat 398: the locust 697 in its kinds 4327, and the devastating 5556 locust 5556 in its kinds 4327, and the cricket 2728 in its kinds 4327, and the grasshopper 2284 in its kinds 4327.

‘But all 3605 other winged 5775 insects 8318 which 834 are four-footed 702 7272 are detestable 8263 to you.
11:24
¶ ‘By these 428, moreover, you will be made 2930 unclean 2930: whoever 3605 touches 5060 their carcasses 5038 becomes 2930 unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153,
11:25
and whoever 3605 picks 5375 up any 4480 of their carcasses 5038 shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and be unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153.
11:26
‘Concerning all 3605 the animals 929 which 834 divide 6536 the hoof 6541 but do not make 8156 a split 8156 [hoof], or which do not chew 5927 cud 1625, they are unclean 2931 to you: whoever 3605 touches 5060 them becomes 2930 unclean 2930.
11:27
‘Also whatever 3605 walks 1980 on its paws 3709, among all 3605 the creatures 2421b that walk 1980 on [all] fours 702, are unclean 2931 to you; whoever 3605 touches 5060 their carcasses 5038 becomes 2930 unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153,
11:28
and the one who picks 5375 up their carcasses 5038 shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and be unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153; they are unclean 2931 to you.
11:29
¶ ‘Now these 2088 are to you the unclean 2931 among the swarming 8318 things 8318 which swarm 8317 on the earth 776: the mole 2467, and the mouse 5909, and the great 6632b lizard 6632b in its kinds 4327,

and the gecko 604, and the crocodile 3581a, and the lizard 3911, and the sand 2546 reptile 2546, and the chameleon 8580.

‘These 428 are to you the unclean 2931 among all 3605 the swarming 8318 things 8318; whoever 3605 touches 5060 them when they are dead 4194 becomes 2930 unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153.
11:32
‘Also anything 3605 on which 834 one of them may fall 5307 when they are dead 4194 becomes 2930 unclean 2930, including 4480 any 3605 wooden 6086 article 3627, or 176 clothing 899b, or 176 a skin 5785, or 176 a sack 8242—any 3605 article 3627 of which 834 use 4399 is made 6213a—it shall be put 935 in the water 4325 and be unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153, then it becomes 2891 clean 2891.
11:33
‘As for any 3605 earthenware 2789 vessel 3627 into which 834 one of them may fall 5307, whatever 3605 834 is in it becomes 2930 unclean 2930 and you shall break 7665 the vessel.
11:34
‘Any 4480 3605 of the food 400 which 834 may be eaten 398, on which 834 water 4325 comes 935, shall become 2930 unclean 2930, and any 3605 liquid 4945b which 834 may be drunk 8354 in every 3605 vessel 3627 shall become 2930 unclean 2930.
11:35
‘Everything 3605, moreover, on which 834 part of their carcass 5038 may fall 5307 becomes 2930 unclean 2930; an oven 8574 or a stove 3600 shall be smashed 5422; they are unclean 2931 and shall continue 1961 as unclean 2931 to you.
11:36
‘Nevertheless 389 a spring 4599 or a cistern 953a collecting 4723b water 4325 shall be clean 2889, though the one who touches 5060 their carcass 5038 shall be unclean 2930.
11:37
‘If 3588 a part of their carcass 5038 falls 5307 on any 3605 seed 2233 for sowing 2221 which 834 is to be sown 2232, it is clean 2889.
11:38
‘Though if 3588 water 4325 is put 5414 on the seed 2233 and a part of their carcass 5038 falls 5307 on it, it is unclean 2931 to you.
11:39
¶ ‘Also if 3588 one of the animals 929 dies 4191 which 834 you have for food 402, the one who touches 5060 its carcass 5038 becomes 2930 unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153.
11:40
‘He too, who eats 398 some 4480 of its carcass 5038 shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and be unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153, and the one who picks 5375 up its carcass 5038 shall wash 3526 his clothes 899b and be unclean 2930 until 5704 evening 6153.
11:41
¶ ‘Now every 3605 swarming 8318 thing 8318 that swarms 8317 on the earth 776 is detestable 8263, not to be eaten 398.
11:42
‘Whatever 3605 crawls 1980 on its belly 1512, and whatever 3605 walks 1980 on [all] fours 702, whatever 3605 has many 7235a feet 7272, in respect to every 3605 swarming 8318 thing 8318 that swarms 8317 on the earth 776, you shall not eat 398 them, for they are detestable 8263.
11:43
‘Do not render 8262 yourselves 5315 detestable 8262 through any 3605 of the swarming 8318 things 8318 that swarm 8317; and you shall not make 2930 yourselves unclean 2930 with them so that you become 2930 unclean 2930.
11:44
‘For I am the LORD 3068 your God 430. Consecrate 6942 yourselves therefore, and be holy 6918, for I am holy 6918. And you shall not make 2930 yourselves 5315 unclean 2930 with any 3605 of the swarming 8318 things 8318 that swarm 7430 on the earth 776.
11:45
‘For I am the LORD 3068 who brought 5927 you up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714 to be your God 430; thus you shall be holy 6918, for I am holy 6918.’”

¶ This 2088 is the law 8451 regarding the animal 929 and the bird 5775, and every 3605 living 2416a thing 2416a that moves 7430 in the waters 4325 and everything 3605 that swarms 8317 on the earth 776,

to make 914 a distinction 914 between 996 the unclean 2931 and the clean 2889, and between 996 the edible 398 creature 2421b and the creature 2421b which 834 is not to be eaten 398.
