Now Yiftach the Giladi was a mighty man of valour, and he [was] the son of an harlot: and Gilad begat Yiftach. |

and his wife's°
sons°
grew up,°°
and they thrust out°°°

unto him, Thou shalt not°

And Gilad's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Yiftach, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou [art] the son of a strange woman. |

And it came to pass°

`Ammôn

made war°°
against°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

11:4 ¶
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Yisrael. |

And it was°
so, that when°
the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
made war°°
against°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
the elders°
of
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד°
went°°°
to fetch°°°

out of the land°°

Ţôv

And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Yisrael, the elders of Gilad went to fetch Yiftach out of the land of Tov: |

And they said°°

Yiftäç
יִפתָּח,°
Come,°°°
and be°
our captain,°
that we may fight°°
with the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן.° |

And they said unto Yiftach, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. |

And

unto the elders°
of
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד,°
Did not°
ye°
hate°°
me, and expel°°
me out of my father's°
house?°°
and why°
are ye come°°
unto°
me now°
when°
ye are in distress?°°° |

And Yiftach said unto the elders of Gilad, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress? |

And the elders°

Therefore°
we turn again°°
to°
thee now,°
that thou mayest go°°
with°
us, and fight°°
against the children°

`Ammôn

the inhabitants°°

גִּלעָד.° |

And the elders of Gilad said unto Yiftach, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilad. |

And Yiftach said unto the elders of Gilad, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh deliver them before me, shall I be your head? |

And the elders°

unto°

יִפתָּח,°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
be°
witness°°
between°
us, if°
we do°°
not°
so°
according to thy words.° |

And the elders of Gilad said unto Yiftach, Yahweh be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words. |

and the people°
made°°
him head°
and captain°
over°
them: and
Yiftäç

his words°

Then Yiftach went with the elders of Gilad, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Yiftach uttered all his words before Yahweh in Mitzpah. |

11:12 ¶
And

the king°
of the children°

`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן,°
saying,°°
What°
hast thou to do with me, that°
thou art come°°
against°
me to fight°°
in my land?° |

11:12 ¶
And Yiftach sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land? |
|
11:13
And the king°
of the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
answered°°
unto°
the messengers°
of
Yiftäç
יִפתָּח,°
Because°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
took away°°°
my land,°
when they came up°°
out of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,°°
from
´Arnôn
אַרנוֹן°°
even unto°
Yabbök
יַבֹּק,°
and unto°
Yardën
יַרדֵּן:°
now°
therefore restore those [lands] again°°°
peaceably.° |

And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Yiftach, Because Yisrael took away my land, when they came up out of Mitzrayim, from Arnon even unto Yabboq, and unto Yarden: now therefore restore those [lands] again peaceably. |

And said unto him, Thus saith Yiftach, Yisrael took not away the land of Moav, nor the land of the children of Ammon: |

when
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
came up°°
from
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִם,°°
and walked°°°
through the wilderness°
unto°
the
Sûf
סוּף°
sea,°
and came°°
to
Käđëš
קָדֵשׁ;° |

But when Yisrael came up from Mitzrayim, and walked through the wilderness unto the Suf sea, and came to Qadesh; |

messengers°
unto°
the king°
of
´Éđôm
אֱדוֹם,°
saying,°°
Let me, I pray thee,°
pass°
through°°
thy land:°
but the king°
of
´Éđôm
אֱדוֹם°
would not°
hearken°°
[thereto]. And in like manner°
they sent°°
unto°
the king°
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב:°
but he would°°
not°
[consent]: and
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
abode°°
in
Käđëš
קָדֵשׁ.° |

11:17
Then Yisrael sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken [thereto]. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moav: but he would not [consent]: and Yisrael abode in Qadesh. |

Then they went along°°°
through the wilderness,°
and compassed°°°
the land°
of
´Éđôm
אֱדוֹם,°
and the land°
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב,°
and came°°
by the east side°°°
of the land°
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב,°
and pitched°°
on the other side°
of
´Arnôn
אַרנוֹן,°
but came°°
not°
within the border°
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב:°
for°
´Arnôn
אַרנוֹן°
[was] the border°
of
Mô´äv
מוֹאָב.° |

11:18
Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moav, and came by the east side of the land of Moav, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moav: for Arnon [was] the border of Moav. |

11:19

through thy land°

And Yisrael sent messengers unto Sichon king of the Emorim, the king of Cheshbon; and Yisrael said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place. |
|
11:20

But Sichon trusted not Yisrael to pass through his coast: but Sichon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Yahatz, and fought against Yisrael. |

And

Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
delivered°°°
Sîçôn
סִיחוֹן°
and all°
his people°
into the hand°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and they smote°°
them: so
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
possessed°°°
all°
the land°
of the
´Émörîm
אֱמֹרִים,°
the inhabitants°°
of that°
country.° |

11:21
And Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael delivered Sichon and all his people into the hand of Yisrael, and they smote them: so Yisrael possessed all the land of the Emorim, the inhabitants of that country. |
|
11:22
And they possessed°°°
all°
the coasts°
of the
´Émörîm
אֱמֹרִים,°
from
´Arnôn
אַרנוֹן°°
even unto°
Yabbök
יַבֹּק,°
and from°
the wilderness°
even unto°
Yardën
יַרדֵּן.° |

11:22
And they possessed all the coasts of the Emorim, from Arnon even unto Yabboq, and from the wilderness even unto Yarden. |
|
11:23
So now°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
hath dispossessed°°°
the
´Émörîm
אֱמֹרִים°
from before°°
his people°
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,°
and shouldest thou°
possess°°
it? |

11:23
So now Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael hath dispossessed the Emorim from before his people Yisrael, and shouldest thou possess it? |
|
11:24
Wilt not°
thou possess°°°
that which°
Cæmôš
כְּמוֹשׁ°
thy
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
giveth thee to possess?°°
So whomsoever°°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
our
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים°
shall drive out°°
from before°°
us, them will we possess.°° |

11:24
Wilt not thou possess that which Kemosh thy elohim giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever Yahweh our Elohim shall drive out from before us, them will we possess. |
|
11:25
And now°
[art] thou°
any thing better°
than

king°

מוֹאָב?°
did he ever°°
strive°°
against°

And now [art] thou any thing better than Balaq the son of Tzippor, king of Moav? did he ever strive against Yisrael, or did he ever fight against them, |

dwelt°°
in
Çešbôn
חֶשׁבּוֹן°
and her towns,°
and in
`Árö`ër
עֲרֹעֵר°
and her towns,°
and in all°
the cities°
that°
[be] along by°
the coasts°
of
´Arnôn
אַרנוֹן,°
three°
hundred°
years?°
why°
therefore did ye not°
recover°°
[them] within that°
time?° |

While Yisrael dwelt in Cheshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that [be] along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover [them] within that time? |

11:27
Wherefore I°
have not°
sinned°°
against thee, but thou°
doest°°°
me wrong°
to war°°
against me:

יָהוֶה°
the Judge°°
be judge°°
this day°
between°
the children°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
and the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן.° |

11:27
Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: Yahweh the Judge be judge this day between the children of Yisrael and the children of Ammon. |
|
11:28
Howbeit the king°
of the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
hearkened°°
not°
unto°
the words°
of
Yiftäç
יִפתָּח°
which°
he sent°°°
him. |
|
11:28
Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Yiftach which he sent him. |
|
11:29 ¶
Then the Spirit°
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
came°
upon°
Yiftäç
יִפתָּח,°
and he passed over°°°
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד,°
and
Mænaššè
מְנַשֶּׁה,°
and passed over°°°
Mixpà
מִצפָּה°
of
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד,°
and from
Mixpà
מִצפָּה°°
of
Gil`äđ
גִּלעָד°
he passed over°°
[unto] the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן.° |

11:29 ¶
Then the Spirit of Yahweh came upon Yiftach, and he passed over Gilad, and Menashsheh, and passed over Mitzpah of Gilad, and from Mitzpah of Gilad he passed over [unto] the children of Ammon. |
|
11:30
And

a vow°
unto
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and said,°°
If°
thou shalt without fail°°
deliver°°°
the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
into mine hands,° |

And Yiftach vowed a vow unto Yahweh, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands, |

11:31
Then it shall be,°
that whatsoever°°°
cometh forth°°
of the doors°°
of my house°
to meet°°
me, when I return°°
in peace°
from the children°°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן,°
shall surely be°
Yähwè's
יָהוֶה,°
and I will offer it up°°
for a burnt offering.° |

11:31
Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be Yahweh's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering. |

11:32 ¶

עֲרֹעֵר,°°
even till°
thou come°°
to
Minnîŧ
מִנִּית,°
[even] twenty°
cities,°
and unto°
the plain°
of the vineyards,°°°
with a very°
great°
slaughter.°
Thus the children°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן°
were subdued°°
before°°
the children°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.° |

11:33
And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, [even] twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Yisrael. |

11:34 ¶
And

his house,°
and, behold,°
his daughter°
came out°°
to meet°°
him with timbrels°
and with dances:°

[was his] only child;°

And Yiftach came to Mitzpah unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she [was his] only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter. |

And it came to pass,°
when he saw°°
her, that he rent°°°
his clothes,°
and said,°°
Alas,°
my daughter!°
thou hast brought°°
me very°°
low,°°
and thou°
art°
one of them that trouble°°
me: for I°
have opened°°
my mouth°
unto°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
and I cannot°°°
go back.°° |

11:35
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto Yahweh, and I cannot go back. |
|
11:36
And she said°°
unto°
him, My father,°
[if] thou hast opened°°°
thy mouth°
unto°
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,°
do°°
to me according to that which°
hath proceeded°°
out°
of thy mouth;°°
forasmuch°°
as
Yähwè
יָהוֶה°
hath taken°°
vengeance°
for thee of thine enemies,°°°
[even] of the children°°
of
`Ammôn
עַמּוֹן.° |

11:36
And she said unto him, My father, [if] thou hast opened thy mouth unto Yahweh, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as Yahweh hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, [even] of the children of Ammon. |
|

And she said°°

her father,°
Let this°
thing°
be done°°
for me: let me alone°°°
two°
months,°
that I may go up°°°
and down°°
upon°
the mountains,°
and bewail°°°
my virginity,°
I°
and my fellows.°°° |

And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows. |

11:38
And he said,°°
Go.°°°
And he sent her away°°°
[for] two°
months:°
and she°
went°°°
with her companions,°
and bewailed°°°
her virginity°
upon°
the mountains.° |

And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her [according] to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Yisrael, |

[That] the daughters°
of
Yiŝrä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל°
went°°°
yearly°°
to lament°°
the daughter°
of
Yiftäç
יִפתָּח°
the
Gil`äđî
גִּלעָדִי°
four°
days°
in a year.° |

11:40
[That] the daughters of Yisrael went yearly to lament the daughter of Yiftach the Giladi four days in a year. |
