 2:1 ¶ And an angelº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº came upºº fromº Gilgäl גִּלגָּלº toº Bö¢îm בֹּכִים,º and said,ºº I made you to go upººº out of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,ºº and have broughtºº you untoº the landº whichº I swareºº unto your fathers;º and I said,ºº I will neverºº breakºº my covenantº withº you.

 2:1 ¶ And an angel of Yahweh came up from Gilgal to Bokhim, and said, I made you to go up out of Mitzrayim, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

 2:2 And yeº shall makeºº noº leagueº with the inhabitantsºº of thisº land;º ye shall throw downºº their altars:º but ye have notº obeyedºº my voice:º whyº have ye doneºº this?º

 2:2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

 2:3 Wherefore I alsoº said,ºº I will notº drive them outººº from beforeºº you; but they shall beº [as thorns] in your sides,º and their ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº shall beº a snareº unto you.

 2:3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be [as thorns] in your sides, and their elohim shall be a snare unto you.

 2:4 And it came to pass,º when the angelº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº spakeººº theseº wordsº untoº allº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º that the peopleº lifted upººº their voice,º and wept.ºº

 2:4 And it came to pass, when the angel of Yahweh spake these words unto all the children of Yisrael, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

 2:5 And they calledºº the nameº of thatº placeº Bö¢îm בֹּכִים:º and they sacrificedºº thereº unto Yähwè יָהוֶה.º

 2:5 And they called the name of that place Bokhim: and they sacrificed there unto Yahweh.

 2:6 ¶ And when Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº had letº the peopleº go,ºº the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº wentººº every manº unto his inheritanceº to possessººº the land.º

 2:6 ¶ And when Yehoshua had let the people go, the children of Yisrael went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

 2:7 And the peopleº servedººº Yähwè יָהוֶהº allº the daysº of Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º and allº the daysº of the eldersº thatº outlivedºººº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ,º whoº had seenººº allº the greatº worksº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º thatº he didºº for Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 2:7 And the people served Yahweh all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Yehoshua, who had seen all the great works of Yahweh, that he did for Yisrael.

 2:8 And Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº the sonº of Nûn נוּן,º the servantº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º died,ºº [being] an hundredº and tenº yearsº old.º

 2:8 And Yehoshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, [being] an hundred and ten years old.

 2:9 And they buriedºº him in the borderº of his inheritanceº in Timna± Çeres תִּמנַת־חֶרֶס,º in the mountº of ´Efrayim אֶפרַיִם,º on the north sideºº of the hillº Gä`aš גָּעַשׁ.º

 2:9 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-Cheres, in the mount of Efrayim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

 2:10 And alsoº allº thatº generationº were gatheredºº untoº their fathers:º and there aroseºº anotherº generationº afterº them, whichº knewºº notºº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º nor yetºº the worksº whichº he had doneºº for Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל.º

 2:10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not Yahweh, nor yet the works which he had done for Yisrael.

 2:11 ¶ And the childrenº of Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵלº didººº evilº in the sightº of Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and servedººº Bæ`älîm בְּעָלִים:º

 2:11 ¶ And the children of Yisrael did evil in the sight of Yahweh, and served Bealim:

 2:12 And they forsookººº Yähwè יָהוֶהº ´Élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº of their fathers,º which brought them outººº of the landºº of Mixrayim מִצרַיִם,º and followedºººº otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º of the ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםºº of the peopleº thatº [were] round aboutº them, and bowedºº themselvesº unto them, and provokedºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº to anger.ºº

 2:12 And they forsook Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Mitzrayim, and followed other elohim, of the elohim of the people that [were] round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked Yahweh to anger.

 2:13 And they forsookººº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º and servedºº Bä`al בָּעַלº and `Aštärô± עַשׁתָּרוֹת.º

 2:13 And they forsook Yahweh, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

 2:14 ¶ And the angerº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº was hotºº against Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º and he deliveredºº them into the handsº of spoilersºº that spoiledºº them, and he soldºº them into the handsº of their enemiesºº round about,ºº so that they couldºº notº any longerº standºº beforeº their enemies.ºº

 2:14 ¶ And the anger of Yahweh was hot against Yisrael, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

 2:15 Whithersoeverºº they went out,ºº the handº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº wasº against them for evil,º asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº had said,ºº and asº Yähwè יָהוֶהº had swornºº unto them: and they were greatlyº distressed.ºº

 2:15 Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Yahweh was against them for evil, as Yahweh had said, and as Yahweh had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

 2:16 ¶ Nevertheless Yähwè יָהוֶהº raised upºº judges,ºº which deliveredºº them out of the handºº of those that spoiledºº them.

 2:16 ¶ Nevertheless Yahweh raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

 2:17 And yetº they would notº hearkenºº untoº their judges,ºº butº they went a whoringºº afterº otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִים,º and bowedºº themselvesº unto them: they turnedºº quicklyº out ofº the wayº whichº their fathersº walkedº in,ºº obeyingºº the commandmentsº of Yähwè יָהוֶה;º [but] they didºº notº so.º

 2:17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other elohim, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of Yahweh; [but] they did not so.

 2:18 And whenº Yähwè יָהוֶהº raisedºº them upº judges,ºº then Yähwè יָהוֶהº wasº withº the judge,ºº and deliveredºº them out of the handºº of their enemiesºº allº the daysº of the judge:ºº forº it repentedºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº becauseº of their groaningsºº by reason of themºº that oppressedºº them and vexedºº them.

 2:18 And when Yahweh raised them up judges, then Yahweh was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Yahweh because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

 2:19 And it came to pass,º when the judgeºº was dead,ºº [that] they returned,ºº and corruptedºº [themselves] more than their fathers,ºº in followingºººº otherº ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº to serveºº them, and to bow downºº unto them; they ceasedºº notº from their own doings,ºº nor from their stubbornº way.ººº

 2:19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, [that] they returned, and corrupted [themselves] more than their fathers, in following other elohim to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

 2:20 ¶ And the angerº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº was hotºº against Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל;º and he said,ºº Becauseº thatº thisº peopleº hath transgressedººº my covenantº whichº I commandedººº their fathers,º and have notº hearkenedºº unto my voice;º

 2:20 ¶ And the anger of Yahweh was hot against Yisrael; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

 2:21 Iº alsoº will notº henceforthºº drive outºº anyº from beforeºº them ofº the nationsº whichº Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַº leftºº when he died:ºº

 2:21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Yehoshua left when he died:

 2:22 Thatº through them I may proveººº Yi$rä´ël יִשׂרָאֵל,º whether theyº will keepººº the wayº of Yähwè יָהוֶהº to walkººº therein, asº their fathersº did keepºº [it], orº not.º

 2:22 That through them I may prove Yisrael, whether they will keep the way of Yahweh to walk therein, as their fathers did keep [it], or not.

 2:23 Therefore Yähwè יָהוֶהº leftºººº thoseº nations,º withoutº driving them outºº hastily;º neitherº deliveredºº he them into the handº of Yæhôšuå` יְהוֹשֻׁעַ.º

 2:23 Therefore Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Yehoshua.
