עַזָּה,º
and sawºº
thereº
an harlot,ººº
and went inºº
untoº
her. |

 16:1 ¶
Then went Shimshon to Azzah, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. |
 16:2
[And it was told] the
`Azzä±îm
עַזָּתִים,º
saying,ºº
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹןº
is comeºº
hither.º
And they compassedº
[him] in,ºº
and laid waitºº
for him allº
nightº
in the gateº
of the city,º
and were quietºº
allº
the night,º
saying,ºº
In the morning,º
whenº
it is day,º
we shall killºº
him. |
 16:2
[And it was told] the Azzathim, saying, Shimshon is come hither. And they compassed [him] in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him. |

And Shimshon lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put [them] upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that [is] before Chevron. |

And it came to passº

 16:4 ¶
And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Soreq, whose name [was] Delilah. |

And the lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
came upºº
untoº
her, and saidºº
unto her, Enticeºº
him, and seeºº
whereinº
his greatº
strengthº
[lieth], and by whatº
[means] we may prevailºº
against him, that we may bindºº
him to afflictºº
him: and weº
will giveºº
thee every oneº
of us eleven hundredºº
[pieces] of silver.º |
 16:5
And the lords of the Pelishtim came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength [lieth], and by what [means] we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred [pieces] of silver. |
 16:6 ¶

And Delilah said to Shimshon, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength [lieth], and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee. |

me with sevenº

were neverº

then shall I be weak,ºº

And Shimshon said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. |

Then the lordsº
of the

brought upºº
to her sevenº
greenº
withsº
whichº
had notº
been dried,ºº
and she boundºº
him with them. |
 16:8
Then the lords of the Pelishtim brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. |

Now [there were] men lying in wait,ºº
abidingºº
with her in the chamber.º
And she saidºº
untoº
him, The
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
[be] uponº
thee,
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹן.º
And he brakeººº
the withs,º
asº
a threadº
of towº
is brokenºº
when it touchethºº
the fire.º
So his strengthº
was notº
known.ºº |

Now [there were] men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Pelishtim [be] upon thee, Shimshon. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known. |

Behold,º
thou hast mockedºº
me, and toldººº
me lies:º
nowº

me, I pray thee,º

And Delilah said unto Shimshon, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound. |

And he saidºº
untoº
her, Ifº
they bindºº
me fastºº
with newº
ropesº
thatº
neverº
were occupied,ººº
then shall I be weak,ºº
and beº
as anotherº
man.º |
 16:11
And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. |

in the chamber.º
And he brakeºº
them from offºº
his armsº
like a thread.º |

Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Pelishtim [be] upon thee, Shimshon. And [there were] liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread. |

And Delilah said unto Shimshon, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. |
 16:14
And she fastenedºº

him, The

פְּלִשׁתִּיםº

thee,

שִׁמשׁוֹן.º
And he awakedºº
out of his sleep,ºº
and went awayººº
with the pinº

And she fastened [it] with the pin, and said unto him, The Pelishtim [be] upon thee, Shimshon. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web. |
 16:15 ¶
And she saidºº
untoº
him, Howº
canst thou say,ºº
I loveºº
thee, when thine heartº
[is] notº
withº
me? thou hast mockedºº
me these threeº
times,º
and hast notº
toldºº
me whereinº
thy greatº
strengthº
[lieth]. |
 16:15 ¶
And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart [is] not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength [lieth]. |
 16:16
And it came to pass,º
whenº
she pressedºº
him dailyºº
with her words,º
and urgedºº
him, [so] that his soulº
was vexedºº
unto death;ºº |
 16:16
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, [so] that his soul was vexed unto death; |

That he toldºº
herº
allº
his heart,º
and saidºº
unto her, There hath notº
comeºº
a razorº
uponº
mine head;º
forº

´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
from my mother'sº

I be shaven,ºº
then my strengthº

That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I [have been] a Nazir unto Elohim from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any [other] man. |

her, and broughtºº

 16:18
And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Pelishtim, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Pelishtim came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. |
 16:19
And she made him sleepºº
uponº
her knees;º
and she calledºº
for a man,º
and she caused him to shave offººº
the sevenº
locksº
of his head;º
and she beganºº
to afflictºº
him, and his strengthº
wentºº
fromºº
him. |
 16:19
And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. |
 16:20
And she said,ºº

And he awokeºº
out of his sleep,ºº
and said,ºº
I will go outºº
as at other times before,º
and shakeºº
myself.º

יָהוֶהº
was departedºº
fromºº
him. |
 16:20
And she said, The Pelishtim [be] upon thee, Shimshon. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that Yahweh was departed from him. |
 16:21 ¶
But the

tookºº
him, and put outººº
his eyes,º
and brought him downººº
to
`Azzà
עַזָּה,º
and boundºº
him with fetters of brass;º
and he didº
grindºº
in the prisonººº
house.º |
 16:21 ¶
But the Pelishtim took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Azzah, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. |
 16:22
Howbeit the hairº
of his headº
beganºº
to grow againºº
afterº
he was shaven.ºº |
 16:22
Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. |
 16:23
Then the lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
gathered them togetherºº
for to offerºº
a greatº
sacrificeº
unto
Däqôn
דָּגוֹןº
their
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
and to rejoice:º
for they said,ºº
Our
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
hath deliveredººº
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹןº
our enemyºº
into our hand.º |
 16:23
Then the lords of the Pelishtim gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their elohim, and to rejoice: for they said, Our elohim hath delivered Shimshon our enemy into our hand. |
 16:24
And when the peopleº
sawºº
him, they praisedººº
their
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים:º
forº
they said,ºº
Our
´élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
hath deliveredºº
into our handsºº
our enemy,ºº
and the destroyerºº
of our country,º
whichº
slewº
manyºººº
of us. |
 16:24
And when the people saw him, they praised their elohim: for they said, Our elohim hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us. |
 16:25
And it came to pass,º
whenº
their heartsº
were merry,º
that they said,ºº
Callºº
for
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹן,º
that he may make us sport.ºº
And they calledºº
for
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹןº
out of the prisonºº
house;ººº
and he made themº
sport:ººº
and they setºº
him betweenº
the pillars.º |
 16:25
And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Shimshon, that he may make us sport. And they called for Shimshon out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. |
 16:26

the ladº
that heldºº
him by the hand,º
Sufferººº
me that I may feelººººº
the pillarsº
whereuponºº
the houseº
standeth,ºº
that I may leanºº
uponº
them. |

And Shimshon said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them. |
 16:27
Now the houseº
was fullºº
of menºº
and women;º
and allº
the lordsº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםº
[were] there;º
and [there were] uponº
the roofº
about threeº
thousandº
menº
and women,º
that beheldºº
while
Šimšôn
שִׁמשׁוֹןº
made sport.ºº |
 16:27
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Pelishtim [were] there; and [there were] upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Shimshon made sport. |
 16:28

Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
and said,ºº
O
´Áðönäy
אֲדֹנָיº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
rememberºº
me, I pray thee,º
and strengthenºº
me, I pray thee,º
onlyº
thisº
once,º

´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
that I may be at onceº
avengedºººº
of the
Pælištîm
פְּלִשׁתִּיםºº
for my twoºº
eyes.º |
 16:28
And Shimshon called unto Yahweh, and said, O Adonay Yahweh, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O Elohim, that I may be at once avenged of the Pelishtim for my two eyes. |

took holdºº
ofº
the twoº
middleº
pillarsº
uponº
whichº
the houseº
stood,ºº
and onº
which it was borne up,ºº
of the oneº
with his right hand,º
and of the otherº
with his left.º |
 16:29
And Shimshon took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. |
 16:30

And he bowedºº
himself with [all his] might;º
and the houseº

And Shimshon said, Let me die with the Pelishtim. And he bowed himself with [all his] might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that [were] therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than [they] which he slew in his life. |

of his fatherº
came down,ºº

him, and brought [him] up,ºº
