 4:1 ¶
And the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
againºº
didºº
evilº
in the sightº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
when
´Ëhûð
אֵהוּדºº
was dead.ºº |
|
 4:1 ¶
And the children of Yisrael again did evil in the sight of Yahweh, when Ehud was dead. |
 4:2
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
soldºº
them into the handº
of
Yävîn
יָבִיןº
kingº
of
Cænä`an
כְּנָעַן,º
thatº
reignedºº
in
Çäxôr
חָצוֹר;º
the captainº
of whose hostº
[was]
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָא,º
whichº
dweltºº
in
Çáröše±
חֲרֹשֶׁתº
of the Gentiles.ºº |
|
 4:2
And Yahweh sold them into the hand of Yavin king of Kenaan, that reigned in Chatzor; the captain of whose host [was] Sisra, which dwelt in Charosheth of the Gentiles. |
 4:3
And the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
criedºº
untoº
Yähwè
יָהוֶה:º
forº
he had nineº
hundredº
chariotsº
of iron;º
and twentyº
yearsº
heº
mightilyºº
oppressedººº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |
|
 4:3
And the children of Yisrael cried unto Yahweh: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Yisrael. |
 4:4 ¶
And
Dævôrà
דְּבוֹרָה,º
a prophetess,ºº
the wifeº
of
Lappîðô±
לַפִּידוֹת,º
sheº
judgedººº
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
at thatº
time.º |
|
 4:4 ¶
And Devorah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Yisrael at that time. |
 4:5
And sheº
dweltºº
underº
the palm treeº
of
Dævôrà
דְּבוֹרָהº
betweenº
Rämà
רָמָהº
and
Bê± ´Ël
בֵּית־אֵלº
in mountº
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם:º
and the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
came upºº
toº
her for judgment.º |
|
 4:5
And she dwelt under the palm tree of Devorah between Ramah and Beth-El in mount Efrayim: and the children of Yisrael came up to her for judgment. |
 4:6
And she sentºº
and calledºº
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
the sonº
of
´Ávînö`am
אֲבִינֹעַםº
out of
Keðeš Naftälî
קֶדֶשׁ־נַפתָּלִי,ººº
and saidºº
untoº
him, Hath notº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
commanded,ºº
[saying], Goººº
and drawºº
toward mountº
Tävôr
תָּבוֹר,º
and takeºº
withº
thee tenº
thousandº
menº
of the childrenºº
of
Naftälî
נַפתָּלִיº
and of the childrenºº
of
Zævûlûn
זְבוּלוּן?º |
|
 4:6
And she sent and called Baraq the son of Avinoam out of Qedesh-Naftali, and said unto him, Hath not Yahweh Elohim of Yisrael commanded, [saying], Go and draw toward mount Tavor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naftali and of the children of Zevulun? |
 4:7
And I will drawºº
untoº
thee toº
the riverº
Kîšôn
קִישׁוֹןºº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָא,º
the captainº
of
Yävîn's
יָבִיןº
army,º
with his chariotsº
and his multitude;º
and I will deliverºº
him into thine hand.º |
|
 4:7
And I will draw unto thee to the river Qishon Sisra, the captain of Yavin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. |
 4:8
And
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
saidºº
untoº
her, Ifº
thou wilt goººº
withº
me, then I will go:ºº
but ifº
thou wilt notº
goººº
withº
me, [then] I will notº
go.ººº |
|
 4:8
And Baraq said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, [then] I will not go. |
 4:9
And she said,ºº
I will surelyºº
goººº
withº
thee: notwithstandingººº
the journeyº
thatº
thouº
takestºº
shall notº
beº
for thine honour;º
forº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
shall sellººº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
into the handº
of a woman.º
And
Dævôrà
דְּבוֹרָהº
arose,ºº
and wentººº
withº
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
to
Keðeš
קֶדֶשׁ.º |
|
 4:9
And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for Yahweh shall sell Sisra into the hand of a woman. And Devorah arose, and went with Baraq to Qedesh. |
 4:10 ¶
And
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
calledººº
Zævûlûn
זְבוּלוּןº
and
Naftälî
נַפתָּלִיº
to
Keðeš
קֶדֶשׁ;º
and he went upºº
with tenº
thousandº
menº
at his feet:º
and
Dævôrà
דְּבוֹרָהº
went upºº
withº
him. |
|
 4:10 ¶
And Baraq called Zevulun and Naftali to Qedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Devorah went up with him. |
 4:11
Now
Çever
חֶבֶרº
the
Kênî
קֵינִי,ºº
[which was] of the childrenºº
of
Çöväv
חֹבָבº
the father in lawºº
of
Möšè
מֹשֶׁה,º
had severedºº
himselfº
from the
Kênîm
קֵינִים,ºº
and pitchedºº
his tentº
untoº
the plainº
of
Xa`ánannîm
צַעֲנַנִּים,º
whichº
[is] byº
Keðeš
קֶדֶשׁ.º |
|
 4:11
Now Chever the Qeni, [which was] of the children of Chovav the father in law of Mosheh, had severed himself from the Qenim, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Tzaanannim, which [is] by Qedesh. |
 4:12
And they shewedºº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
thatº
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
the sonº
of
´Ávînö`am
אֲבִינֹעַםº
was gone upºº
to mountº
Tävôr
תָּבוֹר.º |
|
 4:12
And they shewed Sisra that Baraq the son of Avinoam was gone up to mount Tavor. |
 4:13
And
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
gathered togetherººº
allº
his chariots,º
[even] nineº
hundredº
chariotsº
of iron,º
and allº
the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him, from
Çáröše±
חֲרֹשֶׁתº
of the Gentilesººº
untoº
the riverº
of
Kîšôn
קִישׁוֹן.º |
|
 4:13
And Sisra gathered together all his chariots, [even] nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that [were] with him, from Charosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Qishon. |
 4:14
And
Dævôrà
דְּבוֹרָהº
saidºº
untoº
Bäräk
בָּרָק,º
Up;ºº
forº
thisº
[is] the dayº
in whichº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath deliveredººº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
into thine hand:º
is notº
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
gone outºº
beforeº
thee? So
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
went downºº
from mountºº
Tävôr
תָּבוֹר,º
and tenº
thousandº
menº
afterº
him. |
|
 4:14
And Devorah said unto Baraq, Up; for this [is] the day in which Yahweh hath delivered Sisra into thine hand: is not Yahweh gone out before thee? So Baraq went down from mount Tavor, and ten thousand men after him. |
 4:15
And
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
discomfitedººº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָא,º
and allº
[his] chariots,º
and allº
[his] host,º
with the edgeº
of the swordº
beforeº
Bäräk
בָּרָק;º
so that
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
lighted downºº
offºº
[his] chariot,º
and fled awayºº
on his feet.º |
|
 4:15
And Yahweh discomfited Sisra, and all [his] chariots, and all [his] host, with the edge of the sword before Baraq; so that Sisra lighted down off [his] chariot, and fled away on his feet. |
 4:16
But
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
pursuedºº
afterº
the chariots,º
and afterº
the host,º
untoº
Çáröše±
חֲרֹשֶׁתº
of the Gentiles:ºº
and allº
the hostº
of
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
fellºº
upon the edgeº
of the sword;º
[and] there was notº
a manº
left.ºº |
|
 4:16
But Baraq pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Charosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisra fell upon the edge of the sword; [and] there was not a man left. |
 4:17
Howbeit
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
fled awayºº
on his feetº
toº
the tentº
of
Yä`ël
יָעֵלº
the wifeº
of
Çever
חֶבֶרº
the
Kênî
קֵינִי:º
forº
[there was] peaceº
betweenº
Yävîn
יָבִיןº
the kingº
of
Çäxôr
חָצוֹרº
and the houseº
of
Çever
חֶבֶרº
the
Kênî
קֵינִי.º |
|
 4:17
Howbeit Sisra fled away on his feet to the tent of Yael the wife of Chever the Qeni: for [there was] peace between Yavin the king of Chatzor and the house of Chever the Qeni. |
 4:18 ¶
And
Yä`ël
יָעֵלº
went outºº
to meetºº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָא,º
and saidºº
untoº
him, Turn in,ºº
my
´áðôn
אֲדוֹן,º
turn inºº
toº
me; fearºº
not.º
And when he had turned inºº
untoº
her into the tent,º
she coveredºº
him with a mantle.º |
|
 4:18 ¶
And Yael went out to meet Sisra, and said unto him, Turn in, my adon, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. |
 4:19
And he saidºº
untoº
her, Give me, I pray thee,º
a littleº
waterº
to drink;ºº
forº
I am thirsty.ºº
And she openedººº
a bottleº
of milk,º
and gave him drink,ºº
and coveredºº
him. |
|
 4:19
And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. |
 4:20
Again he saidºº
untoº
her, Standº
inºº
the doorº
of the tent,º
and it shall be,º
whenº
any manº
doth comeºº
and enquireºº
of thee, and say,ºº
Isº
thereºº
any manº
here?ºº
that thou shalt say,ºº
No.º |
|
 4:20
Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No. |
 4:21
Then
Yä`ël
יָעֵלº
Çever's
חֶבֶרº
wifeº
tookººº
a nailº
of the tent,º
and tookººº
an hammerº
in her hand,º
and wentºº
softlyº
untoº
him, and smoteººº
the nailº
into his temples,ºº
and fastenedºº
it into the ground:º
for heº
was fast asleepºº
and weary.ºº
So he died.ºº |
|
 4:21
Then Yael Chever's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. |
 4:22
And, behold,º
as
Bäräk
בָּרָקº
pursuedººº
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָא,º
Yä`ël
יָעֵלº
came outºº
to meetºº
him, and saidºº
unto him, Come,ººº
and I will shewºº
theeº
the manº
whomº
thouº
seekest.ºº
And when he cameºº
intoº
her [tent], behold,º
Sîsrä´
סִיסרָאº
layºº
dead,ºº
and the nailº
[was] in his temples.ºº |
|
 4:22
And, behold, as Baraq pursued Sisra, Yael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her [tent], behold, Sisra lay dead, and the nail [was] in his temples. |
 4:23
So
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
subduedºº
on thatº
dayºº
Yävîn
יָבִיןº
the kingº
of
Cænä`an
כְּנָעַןº
beforeº
the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |
|
 4:23
So Elohim subdued on that day Yavin the king of Kenaan before the children of Yisrael. |
 4:24
And the handº
of the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
prospered,ºººº
and prevailedºº
againstº
Yävîn
יָבִיןº
the kingº

untilºº

|
 4:24
And the hand of the children of Yisrael prospered, and prevailed against Yavin the king of Kenaan, until they had destroyed Yavin king of Kenaan. |
