 19:1 ¶
And it came to passº
in thoseº
days,º
when [there was] noº
kingº
in
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל,º
that there wasº
a certainº
Lëwî
לֵוִיº
sojourningºº
on the sideº
of mountº
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם,º
who tookºº
to him a concubineºº
out of
Bê± Leçem Yæhûðà
בֵּית־לֶחֶם־יְהוּדָה.ººº |

 19:1 ¶
And it came to pass in those days, when [there was] no king in Yisrael, that there was a certain Lewi sojourning on the side of mount Efrayim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-Lechem-Yehudah. |

And his concubineº
played the whoreºº
againstº
him, and went awayººº
fromºº
him untoº
her father'sº
houseº
toº

בֵּית־לֶחֶם־יְהוּדָה,ºº
and wasº
thereº
fourº
wholeº
months.ºº |
 19:2
And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Beth-Lechem-Yehudah, and was there four whole months. |
 19:3
And her husbandº
arose,ºº
and wentººº
afterº
her, to speakºº
friendlyºº
unto her, [and] to bring her again,ºº
having his servantº
withº
him, and a coupleº
of asses:º
and she broughtºº
him into her father'sº
house:º
and when the fatherº
of the damselº
sawºº
him, he rejoicedºº
to meetºº
him. |
 19:3
And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, [and] to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. |
 19:4
And his father in law,ºº
the damsel'sº
father,º
retainedºº
him; and he abodeºº
withº
him threeº
days:º
so they did eatºº
and drink,ºº
and lodgedºº
there.º |
 19:4
And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there. |
 19:5 ¶
And it came to passº
on the fourthº
day,º
when they arose earlyºº
in the morning,º
that he rose upºº
to depart:ººº
and the damsel'sº
fatherº
saidºº
untoº
his son in law,º
Comfortºº
thine heartº
with a morselº
of bread,º
and afterwardº
go your way.ººº |
 19:5 ¶
And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way. |

And they sat down,ºº
and did eatºº
and drinkºº
bothº
of them together:º
for the damsel'sº
fatherº
had saidºº
untoº
the man,º
Be content,ºº
I pray thee,º
and tarry all night,ºº
and let thine heartº
be merry.ºº |
 19:6
And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry. |
 19:7
And when the manº
rose upºº
to depart,ººº
his father in lawºº
urgedºº
him: therefore he lodgedºº
thereº
again.ºº |
 19:7
And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again. |
 19:8
And he arose earlyºº
in the morningº
on the fifthº
dayº
to depart:ººº
and the damsel'sº
fatherº
said,ºº
Comfortºº
thine heart,º
I pray thee.º
And they tarriedºº
untilº
afternoon,ººº
and they did eatºº
bothº
of them. |
 19:8
And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them. |
 19:9
And when the manº
rose upºº
to depart,ººº
he,º
and his concubine,º
and his servant,º
his father in law,ºº
the damsel'sº
father,º
saidºº
unto him, Behold,º
nowº
the dayº
drawethºº
toward evening,ºº
I pray youº
tarry all night:ºº
behold,º
the dayº
groweth to an end,ºº
lodgeºº
here,º
that thine heartº
may be merry;ºº
and to morrowº
get you earlyºº
on your way,º
that thou mayest goºº
home.º |

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home. |

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Yevus, which [is] Yerushalaim; and [there were] with him two asses saddled, his concubine also [was] with him. |

[And] when theyº

the dayº
was farº
spent;ºº
and the servantº
saidºº
untoº
his

אֲדוֹן,º
Come,ººº
I pray thee,º
and let us turn inºº
intoº
thisº
cityº
of the
Yævûsîm
יְבוּסִים,º
and lodgeºº
in it. |
 19:11
[And] when they [were] by Yevus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his adon, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Yevusim, and lodge in it. |
 19:12
And his

him, We will notº
turn asideºº
hither intoº
the cityº
of a stranger,º
thatº
[is] notº
of the childrenºº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל;º
we will pass overºº

 19:12
And his adon said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that [is] not of the children of Yisrael; we will pass over to Givah. |
 19:13
And he saidºº
unto his servant,º
Come,ººº
and let us draw nearºº
to oneº
of these placesº
to lodge all night,ºº
in
Giv`à
גִּבעָה,º
orº
in
Rämà
רָמָה.º |
 19:13
And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Givah, or in Ramah. |

And they passed onºº
and went their way;ººº
and the sunº
went downºº
upon them [when they were] byº

[belongeth] to

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them [when they were] by Givah, which [belongeth] to Binyamin. |

and when he went in,ºº
he sat him downºº
in a streetº
of the city:º
for [there was] noº
manº
that tookºº
them into his houseº

And they turned aside thither, to go in [and] to lodge in Givah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for [there was] no man that took them into his house to lodging. |

And, behold,º

his workº
out ofº
the fieldº
at even,º
whichº
[was] alsoº
of mountºº
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם;º
and heº

 19:16 ¶
And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which [was] also of mount Efrayim; and he sojourned in Givah: but the men of the place [were] Benyeminim. |
 19:17
And when he had lifted upºº
his eyes,º
he sawººº
a wayfaringºº
manº
in the streetº
of the city:º
and the oldº
manº
said,ºº
Whitherºº
goestººº
thou? and whenceºº
comestºº
thou? |
 19:17
And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou? |
 19:18
And he saidºº
untoº
him, Weº
[are] passingºº
from
Bê± Leçem Yæhûðà
בֵּית־לֶחֶם־יְהוּדָהººº
towardº
the sideº
of mountº
´Efrayim
אֶפרַיִם;º
from thenceºº
[am] I:º
and I wentººº

but Iº
[am now] goingºº
to the houseº

Yähwè
יָהוֶה;º
and there [is] noº

And he said unto him, We [are] passing from Beth-Lechem-Yehudah toward the side of mount Efrayim; from thence [am] I: and I went to Beth-Lechem-Yehudah, but I [am now] going to the house of Yahweh; and there [is] no man that receiveth me to house. |
 19:19
Yet there isº
bothº
strawº
andº
provenderº
for our asses;º
and there isº
breadº
and wineº
alsoº
for me, and for thy handmaid,º
and for the young manº
[which is] withº
thy servants:º
[there is] noº
wantº
of anyº
thing.º |
 19:19
Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man [which is] with thy servants: [there is] no want of any thing. |
 19:20
And the oldº
manº
said,ºº
Peaceº
[be] with thee; howsoeverº
[let] allº
thy wantsº
[lie] uponº
me; onlyº
lodgeºº
notº
in the street.º |
 19:20
And the old man said, Peace [be] with thee; howsoever [let] all thy wants [lie] upon me; only lodge not in the street. |
 19:21
So he broughtºº
him into his house,º
and gave provenderºº
unto the asses:º
and they washedºº
their feet,º
and did eatºº
and drink.ºº |
 19:21
So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink. |
 19:22 ¶
[Now] as theyº
were making their heartsº
merry,ºººº
behold,º
the menºº
of the city,º
certainºº
sonsº
of
Bæliyya`al
בְּלִיַּעַל,º
besetºº
the houseº
round about,ºººº
[and] beatºº
atº
the door,º
and spakeºº
toº
the masterº
of the house,º
the oldº
man,ºº
saying,ºº
Bring forthººº
the manº
thatº
cameºº
intoº
thine house,º
that we may knowºº
him. |
 19:22 ¶
[Now] as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Beliyyaal, beset the house round about, [and] beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him. |
 19:23
And the man,º
the masterº
of the house,º
went outºº
untoº
them, and saidºº
untoº
them, Nay,º
my brethren,º
[nay], I pray you,º
do not [so] wickedly;ººº
seeingº
thatºº
thisº
manº
is comeºº
intoº
mine house,º
doºº
notºº
thisº
folly.º |
 19:23
And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, [nay], I pray you, do not [so] wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly. |
 19:24
Behold,º
[here is] my daughterº
a maiden,º
and his concubine;º
them I will bring outºº
now,º
and humbleºº
ye them, and doºº
with them what seemethº
goodº
unto you: but unto thisº
manº
doºº
notº
soº
vileº
a thing.º |
 19:24
Behold, [here is] my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. |
 19:25
But the menºº
wouldºº
notº
hearkenºº
to him: so the manº
tookºº
his concubine,º
and broughtºº
her forthºº
untoº
them; and they knewºº
her, and abusedºº
her allº
the nightº
untilº
the morning:º
and when the dayº
began to spring,ºº
they let her go.ºº |
 19:25
But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. |
 19:26
Then cameºº
the womanº
in the dawningºº
of the day,º
and fell downºº
at the doorº
of the man'sº
houseº
whereºº
her
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
[was], tillº
it was light.º |
 19:26
Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her adon [was], till it was light. |
 19:27
And her
´áðôn
אֲדוֹןº
rose upºº
in the morning,º
and openedºº
the doorsº
of the house,º
and went outºº
to goººº
his way:º
and, behold,º
the womanº
his concubineº
was fallen downºº
[at] the doorº
of the house,º
and her handsº
[were] uponº
the threshold.º |
 19:27
And her adon rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down [at] the door of the house, and her hands [were] upon the threshold. |
 19:28
And he saidºº
untoº
her, Up,ºº
and let us be going.ººº
But noneº
answered.ºº
Then the manº
tookºº
her [up] uponº
an ass,º
and the manº
rose up,ºº
and gatººº
him unto his place.º |
 19:28
And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her [up] upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place. |
 19:29 ¶
And when he was comeºº
intoº
his house,º
he tookººº
a knife,º
and laid holdºº
on his concubine,º
and dividedºº
her, [together] with her bones,º
into twelveºº
pieces,º
and sentºº
her into allº
the coastsº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵל.º |
 19:29 ¶
And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, [together] with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Yisrael. |
 19:30
And it wasº
so,ºº
that allº
that sawºº
it said,ºº
There was noº
suchº
deedº
doneº
norº
seenºº
from the dayºº
that the childrenº
of
Yi$rä´ël
יִשׂרָאֵלº
came upºº
out of the landºº
of
Mixrayim
מִצרַיִםº
untoº
thisº
day:º
considerºº
ofº
it, take advice,ºº
and speakºº
[your minds]. |
 19:30
And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Yisrael came up out of the land of Mitzrayim unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak [your minds]. |
