  31:1 ¶
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, |

[that] the wordº
of Yahwehº
cameº
untoº
me, saying,ºº |

Son of man, say to Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} king of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and to his multitude; To whom hast thou compared thyself in thy haughtiness? |

of man,º
speakºº
untoº
Pharaohº
kingº
of Egypt,º
and toº
his multitude;º
Whomºº
art thou likeºº
in thy greatness?º |

31:3 ¶
Behold, the Assyrian was a cypress in Lebanon{gr.Libanus}, and was fair in shoots, and high in stature: his top reached to the midst of the clouds. |

Behold,º
the Assyrianº
[was] a cedarº
in Lebanonº
with fairº
branches,º
and with a shadowingºº
shroud,º
and of an highº
stature;º
and his topº
wasº
amongº
the thick boughs.º |

31:4
The water nourished him, the depth made him grow tall; she led her rivers round about his plants, and she sent forth her streams to all the trees of the field. |

The watersº
made him great,ºº
the deepº
set him up on highºº
withº
her riversº
runningºº
round aboutº
his plants,º
and sent outºº
her little riversº
untoº
allº
the treesº
of the field.º |

31:5
Therefore, was his stature exalted above all the trees of the field, and his branches spread far by the help of much water. |

Thereforeºº
his heightº
was exaltedºº
above allºº
the treesº
of the field,º
and his boughsº
were multiplied,ºº
and his branchesº
became longºº
because of the multitudeº
of waters,ºº
when he shot forth.ºº |

All the birds of the sky made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the wild beasts of the field bred; the whole multitude of nations dwelt under his shadow. |

the fowlsº
of heavenº
made their nestsºº
in his boughs,º
and underº
his branchesº
did allº
the beastsº
of the fieldº
bring forth their young,ºº
and under his shadowº
dweltºº
allº
greatº
nations.º |

31:7
And he was fair in his height by reason of the multitude of his branches: for his roots were amidst much water. |

Thus was he fairºº
in his greatness,º
in the lengthº
of his branches:º
forº
his rootº
wasº
byº
greatº
waters.º |

31:8
And such cypresses [as this] were in the paradise of God; and there were no pines like his shoots, and there were no firs like his branches: no tree in the paradise of God was like him in his beauty, |

The cedarsº
in the gardenº
of Elohimº
could notº
hideºº
him: the fir treesº
were not likeºººº
his boughs,º
and the chesnut treesº
wereº
notº
like his branches;º
norº
anyº
treeº
in the gardenº
of Elohimº
was likeºº
untoº
him in his beauty.º |

because of the multitude of his branches: and the trees of God's paradise of delight envied him. |

I have madeºº
him fairº
by the multitudeº
of his branches:º
so that allº
the treesº
of Eden,º
thatº
[were] in the gardenº
of Elohim,º
enviedºº
him. |
|
31:10 ¶
Therefore thus saith the Lord; Because thou art grown great, and hast set thy top in the midst of the clouds, and I saw when he was exalted; |
|
31:10 ¶
Thereforeº
thusº
saithºº
Adonaiº
Yahweh;º
Becauseºº
thou hast lifted upºº
thyself in height,º
and he hath shot upºº
his topº
amongºº
the thick boughs,º
and his heartº
is lifted upºº
in his height;º |

31:11
therefore I delivered him into the hands of the prince of the nations, and he wrought his destruction. |
|
31:11
I have therefore deliveredºº
him into the handº
of the mighty oneºº
of the heathen;º
he shall surelyºº
dealºº
with him: I have driven him outºº
for his wickedness.º |
|
31:12
And ravaging strangers from the nations have destroyed him, and have cast him down upon the mountains: his branches fell in all the valleys, and his boughs were broken in every field of the land; and all the people of the nations are gone down from their shelter, and have laid him low. |

And strangers,ºº
the terribleº
of the nations,º
have cut him off,ºº
and have leftºº
him: uponº
the mountainsº
and in allº
the valleysº
his branchesº
are fallen,ºº
and his boughsº
are brokenºº
by allº
the riversº
of the land;º
and allº
the peopleº
of the earthº
are gone downºº
from his shadow,ºº
and have leftºº
him. |

All the birds of the sky have settled on his fallen trunk, and all the wild beasts of the field came upon his boughs: |

Uponº
his ruinº
shall allº
the fowlsº
of the heavenº
remain,ºº
and allº
the beastsº
of the fieldº
shall beº
uponº
his branches:º |
|
31:14
in order that none of the trees by the water should exalt themselves by reason of their size: whereas they set their top in the midst of the clouds, yet they continued not in their high state in their place, all that drank water, all were consigned to death, to the depth of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. |

Thus saith the Lord God; In the day wherein he went down to the grave{gr.Hades}, the deep mourned for him: and I stayed her floods, and restrained her abundance of water: and Lebanon{gr.Libanus} saddened for him, all the trees of the field fainted for him. |

I caused a mourning:ºº
I coveredººº
the deepº

him, and I restrainedºº
the floodsº
thereof, and the greatº
watersº

and I caused Lebanonº
to mournºº
forº
him, and allº
the treesº
of the fieldº
faintedº
forº
him. |

At the sound of his fall the nations quaked, when I brought him down to the grave{gr.Hades} with them that go down to the pit: and all the trees of Delight comforted him in the heart, and the choice of [plants] of Lebanon{gr.Libanus}, all that drink water. |

I made the nationsº
to shakeºº
at the soundºº
of his fall,º
when I cast him downººº
to hellº
withº
them that descendºº
into the pit:º
and allº
the treesº
of Eden,º
the choiceº
and bestº
of Lebanon,º
allº
that drinkºº
water,º
shall be comfortedºº
in the nether partsº
of the earth.º |

For they went down to hell with him among the slain with the sword; and his seed, [even] they that dwelt under his shadow, perished in the midst of their life. |

[them that be] slainº
with the sword;º
and [they that were] his arm,º
[that] dweltºº
under his shadowº
in the midstº
of the heathen.º |

31:18 ¶
To whom art thou compared? descend, and be thou debased with the trees of paradise to the depth of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword. Thus shall Pharaoh{gr.Pharao} be, and the multitude of his host, saith the Lord God. |

and in greatnessº
among the treesº
of Eden?º
yet shalt thou be brought downºº
withº
the treesº
of Edenº
untoº
the nether partsº
of the earth:º
thou shalt lieºº

[them that be] slainº
by the sword.º
Thisº
[is] Pharaohº

his multitude,º
