 5:1 ¶
And the sons of Reuben{gr.Ruben} the first-born of Israel (for he [was] the first-born; but because of his going up to his father's couch, [his father] gave his blessing to his son Joseph, [even] the son of Israel; and he was not reckoned as first-born; |

[was] the firstborn;º
but, forasmuch as he defiledºº
his father'sº
bed,º
his birthrightº
was givenºº
unto the sonsº

and the genealogy is not to be reckonedººº
after the birthright.º |

for Judah{gr.Judas} [was] very mighty even among his brethren, and one was to be a ruler out of him: but the blessing [was] Joseph's). |

The enumeration of [them] all took place in the days of Jotham{gr.Joatham} king of Judah{gr.Juda}, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel. |

The sons of Reuben{gr.Ruben} and Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, of mighty men, bearing shields and sword, and bending the bow, and skilled in war, [were] forty and four thousand and seven hundred and sixty, going forth to battle. |

And they made war with the Agarenes, and Itureans, and Naphiseans, and Nadabeans, |

the Hagarites,º
with Jetur,º
and Nephish,º

and they prevailed against them: and the Agaraeans were given into their hands, [they] and all their tents: for they cried to God in the battle, and he hearkened to them, because they trusted on him. |

And they were helpedºº
againstº
them, and the Hagaritesº
were deliveredºº
into their hand,º
and allº
that [were] withºº
them: forº
they criedºº
to Elohimº
in the battle,º
and he was intreatedºº
of them; becauseº
they put their trustºº
in him. |
 5:21
And they took captive their store; five thousand camels, and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand men. |

And they took awayºº
their cattle;º
of their camelsº
fiftyº

and of sheepº

and of assesº

For many fell slain, because the war [was] of God. And they dwelt in their place until the captivity. |

And the half-tribe of Manasseh{gr.Manasse} dwelt from Bashan{gr.Basan} to Baal, Ermon, and Sanir, and [to] the mount Hermon{gr.Aermon}: and they increased in Lebanon{gr.Libanus}. |

And the childrenº
of the halfº
tribeº
of Manassehº
dweltºº
in the land:º
theyº
increasedºº
from Bashanºº
untoº
Baalhermonº
and Senir,º
and unto mountº
Hermon.º |
 5:24
And these were the heads of the houses of their families; Hepher{gr.Opher}, and Sei, and Eliel, and Jeremiah{gr.Jeremia}, and Oduia, and Jediel, mighty men of valour, men of renown, heads of the houses of their families. |

And theseº
[were] the headsº
of the houseº
of their fathers,º
even Epher,º
and Ishi,º
and Eliel,º
and Azriel,º
and Jeremiah,º
and Hodaviah,º
and Jahdiel,º
mightyº
menºº
of valour,º
famousº
men,ºº

 5:25 ¶
But they rebelled against the God of their fathers, and went a-whoring after the gods of the nations of the land, whom God cast out from before them. |

And they transgressedºº
against the Elohimº
of their fathers,º
and went a whoringºº
afterº
the elohimº
of the peopleº
of the land,º
whomº
Elohimº
destroyedºº
beforeºº
them. |
 5:26
And the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Phaloch king of Assyria, and the spirit of Thagla-phallasar king of Assyria, and carried away Reuben{gr.Ruben} and Gaddi, and the half-tribe of Manasseh{gr.Manasse}, and brought them to Chaach, and Chabor, and to the river Gozan, until this day. |
