20:1 ¶
And it came to pass at the return of the year, at the [time of the] going forth of kings [to war], that Joab gathered the whole force of the army, and they ravaged the land of the children of Ammon; and he came and besieged Rabbah{gr.Rabba}. But David abode in Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah{gr.Rabba} and destroyed it. |
|
20:1 ¶
And it came to pass,°
that after°
the year°
was expired,°
at the time°
that kings°
go out°°
[to battle], Joab°
led forth°°°
the power°
of the army,°
and wasted°°°
the country°
of the children°
of Ammon,°
and came°°
and besieged°°°
Rabbah.°
But David°
tarried°°
at Jerusalem.°
And Joab°
smote°°°
Rabbah,°
and destroyed°°
it. |
20:2
And David took the crown of Molchom their king off his head, and the weight of it was found [to be] a talent of gold, and on it were precious stones; and it was [placed] on the head of David: and he brought out the spoils of the city [which were] very great. |
|
20:2
And David°
took°°°
the crown°
of their king°
from off°°
his head,°
and found°°
it to weigh°
a talent°
of gold,°
and [there were] precious°
stones°
in it; and it was set°
upon°
David's°
head:°
and he brought°°
also exceeding°
much°°
spoil°
out°°°°
of the city.° |
20:3
And he brought out the people that were in it, and sawed them asunder with saws, and [cut them] with iron axes, and with harrows: and thus David did to all the children of Ammon. And David and all his people returned to Jerusalem. |
|
20:3
And he brought out°°
the people°
that°
[were] in it, and cut°°
[them] with saws,°
and with harrows°
of iron,°
and with axes.°
Even so°
dealt°°
David°
with all°
the cities°
of the children°
of Ammon.°
And David°
and all°
the people°
returned°°
to Jerusalem.° |
20:4 ¶
And it came to pass afterward that there was again war with the Philistines in Gezer{gr.Gazer}: then Sobochai the Sosathite smote Saphut of the sons of the giants, and laid him low. |
|
20:4 ¶
And it came to pass°
after°
this,°°
that there arose°°
war°
at Gezer°
with°
the Philistines;°
at which time°
Sibbechai°
the Hushathite°
slew°°°
Sippai,°
[that was] of the children°°
of the giant:°
and they were subdued.°° |
20:5
And there [was] war again with the Philistines; and Eleanan the son of Jair smote Lachmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear [was] as a weavers' beam. |
|
20:5
And there was°
war°
again°
with°
the Philistines;°
and Elhanan°
the son°
of Jair°
slew°°°
Lahmi°
the brother°
of Goliath°
the Gittite,°
whose spear°
staff°
[was] like a weaver's°°
beam.° |
20:6
And there was again war in Gath{gr.Geth}, and there was a man of extraordinary size, and his fingers [and toes were] six on each hand and foot, four and twenty; and he was descended from the giants. |
|
20:6
And yet again°
there was°
war°
at Gath,°
where was°
a man°
of [great] stature,°
whose fingers°
and toes°
[were] four°
and twenty,°
six°
[on each hand], and six°
[on each foot]: and he°
also°
was the son°°
of the giant.° |
20:7
And he defied Israel, and Jonathan the son of Samaa the brother of David slew him. |
|
20:7
But when he defied°°°
Israel,°
Jonathan°
the son°
of Shimea°
David's°
brother°
slew°°
him. |
20:8
These were born to the giant{gr.Rapha} in Gath{gr.Geth}; all four were giants, and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. |
|
20:8
These°
were born°°
unto the giant°
in Gath;°
and they fell°°
by the hand°
of David,°
and by the hand°
of his servants.° |
