Joshua 24

1 Joshua assembleth the tribes at Shechem. 2 A brief history of God's benefits from Terah. 14 He reneweth the Covenant between them and God. 26 A stone the witness of the Covenant. 29 Joshua's age, death, and burial. 32 Joseph's bones are buried. 33 Eleazar dieth.

 24:1 Then Joshua 3091 gathered 622 all 3605 the tribes 7626 of Israel 3478 to Shechem 7927, and called 7121 for the elders 2205 of Israel 3478 and for their heads 7218 and their judges 8199 and their officers 7860; and they presented 3320 themselves before 6440 God 430.

 24:2 Joshua 3091 said 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘From ancient 5769 times 5769 your fathers 1 lived 3427 beyond 5676 the River 5104, [namely], Terah 8646, the father 1 of Abraham 85 and the father 1 of Nahor 5152, and they served 5647 other 312 gods 430.

 24:3 ‘Then I took 3947 your father 1 Abraham 85 from beyond 4480 5676 the River 5104, and led 1980 him through all 3605 the land 776 of Canaan 3667a, and multiplied 7235a his descendants 2233 and gave 5414 him Isaac 3327.

 24:4 ‘To Isaac 3327 I gave 5414 Jacob 3290 and Esau 6215, and to Esau 6215 I gave 5414 Mount 2022 Seir 8165 to possess 3423 it; but Jacob 3290 and his sons 1121 went 3381 down 3381 to Egypt 4714.

 24:5 ‘Then I sent 7971 Moses 4872 and Aaron 175, and I plagued 5062 Egypt 4714 by what 834 I did 6213a in its midst 7130; and afterward 310 I brought 3318 you out.

 24:6 ‘I brought 3318 your fathers 1 out of Egypt 4714, and you came 935 to the sea 3220; and Egypt 4714 pursued 7291 your fathers 1 with chariots 7393 and horsemen 6571b to the Red 5488 3220 Sea 3220.

 24:7 ‘But when they cried 6817 out to the LORD 3068, He put 7760 darkness 3990 between 996 you and the Egyptians 4713, and brought 935 the sea 3220 upon them and covered 3680 them; and your own eyes 5869 saw 7200 what 834 I did 6213a in Egypt 4714. And you lived 3427 in the wilderness 4057b for a long 7227a time 3117.

 24:8 ‘Then I brought 935 you into the land 776 of the Amorites 567 who lived 3427 beyond 5676 the Jordan 3383, and they fought 3898a with you; and I gave 5414 them into your hand 3027, and you took 3423 possession 3423 of their land 776 when I destroyed 8045 them before 6440 you.

 24:9 ‘Then Balak 1111 the son 1121 of Zippor 6834, king 4428 of Moab 4124, arose 6965 and fought 3898a against Israel 3478, and he sent 7971 and summoned 7121 Balaam 1109a the son 1121 of Beor 1160 to curse 7043 you.

 24:10 ‘But I was not willing 14 to listen 8085 to Balaam 1109a. So he had 1288 to bless 1288 you, and I delivered 5337 you from his hand 3027.

 24:11 ‘You crossed 5674a the Jordan 3383 and came 935 to Jericho 3405; and the citizens 1167 of Jericho 3405 fought 3898a against you, [and] the Amorite 567 and the Perizzite 6522 and the Canaanite 3669a and the Hittite 2850 and the Girgashite 1622, the Hivite 2340 and the Jebusite 2983. Thus I gave 5414 them into your hand 3027.

 24:12 ‘Then I sent 7971 the hornet 6880 before 6440 you and it drove 1644 out the two 8147 kings 4428 of the Amorites 567 from before 4480 6440 you, [but] not by your sword 2719 or your bow 7198.

 24:13 ‘I gave 5414 you a land 776 on which 834 you had not labored 3021, and cities 5892b which 834 you had not built 1129, and you have lived 3427 in them; you are eating 398 of vineyards 3754 and olive 2132 groves 2132 which 834 you did not plant 5193.’

 24:14 ¶ “Now 6258, therefore, fear 3372a the LORD 3068 and serve 5647 Him in sincerity 8549 and truth 571; and put 5493 away 5493 the gods 430 which 834 your fathers 1 served 5647 beyond 5676 the River 5104 and in Egypt 4714, and serve 5647 the LORD 3068.

 24:15 “If 518 it is disagreeable 7489a in your sight 5869 to serve 5647 the LORD 3068, choose 977 for yourselves today 3117 whom 4310 you will serve 5647: whether 518 the gods 430 which 834 your fathers 1 served 5647 which 834 were beyond 5676 the River 5104, or the gods 430 of the Amorites 567 in whose 834 land 776 you are living 3427; but as for me and my house 1004, we will serve 5647 the LORD 3068.”

 24:16 ¶ The people 5971a answered 6030a and said 559, “Far 2486 be it from us that we should forsake 5800a the LORD 3068 to serve 5647 other 312 gods 430;

 24:17 for the LORD 3068 our God 430 is He who brought 5927 us and our fathers 1 up out of the land 776 of Egypt 4714, from the house 1004 of bondage 5650, and who 834 did 6213a these 428 great 1419 signs 226 in our sight 5869 and preserved 8104 us through all 3605 the way 1870 in which 834 we went 1980 and among all 3605 the peoples 5971a through whose 834 midst 7130 we passed 5674a.

 24:18 “The LORD 3068 drove 1644 out from before 6440 us all 3605 the peoples 5971a, even the Amorites 567 who lived 3427 in the land 776. We also 1571 will serve 5647 the LORD 3068, for He is our God 430.”

 24:19 ¶ Then Joshua 3091 said 559 to the people 5971a, “You will not be able 3201 to serve 5647 the LORD 3068, for He is a holy 6918 God 430. He is a jealous 7072 God 410; He will not forgive 5375 your transgression 6588 or your sins 2403b.

 24:20 “If 3588 you forsake 5800a the LORD 3068 and serve 5647 foreign 5236 gods 430, then He will turn 7725 and do 7489a you harm 7489a and consume 3615 you after 310 He has done 3190 good 3190 to you.”

 24:21 The people 5971a said 559 to Joshua 3091, “No 3808, but we will serve 5647 the LORD 3068.”

 24:22 Joshua 3091 said 559 to the people 5971a, “You are witnesses 5707 against yourselves that you have chosen 977 for yourselves the LORD 3068, to serve 5647 Him.” And they said 559, “We are witnesses 5707.”

 24:23 “Now 6258 therefore, put 5493 away 5493 the foreign 5236 gods 430 which 834 are in your midst 7130, and incline 5186 your hearts 3824 to the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478.”

 24:24 The people 5971a said 559 to Joshua 3091, “We will serve 5647 the LORD 3068 our God 430 and we will obey 8085 His voice 6963.”

 24:25 So Joshua 3091 made 3772 a covenant 1285 with the people 5971a that day 3117, and made 7760 for them a statute 2706 and an ordinance 4941 in Shechem 7927.

 24:26 And Joshua 3091 wrote 3789 these 428 words 1697 in the book 5612 of the law 8451 of God 430; and he took 3947 a large 1419 stone 68 and set 6965 it up there 8033 under 8478 the oak 427 that was by the sanctuary 4720 of the LORD 3068.

 24:27 Joshua 3091 said 559 to all 3605 the people 5971a, “Behold 2009, this 2088 stone 68 shall be for a witness 5713a against us, for it has heard 8085 all 3605 the words 561 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He spoke 1696 to us; thus it shall be for a witness 5713a against you, so 6435 that you do not deny 3584 your God 430.”

 24:28 Then Joshua 3091 dismissed 7971 the people 5971a, each 376 to his inheritance 5159.

 24:29 ¶ It came 1961 about after 310 these 428 things 1697 that Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126, the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068, died 4191, being one hundred 3967 and ten 6235 years 8141 old 1121.

 24:30 And they buried 6912 him in the territory 1366 of his inheritance 5159 in Timnath-serah 8556b, which 834 is in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Ephraim 669, on the north 6828 of Mount 2022 Gaash 1608.

 24:31 ¶ Israel 3478 served 5647 the LORD 3068 all 3605 the days 3117 of Joshua 3091 and all 3605 the days 3117 of the elders 2205 who 834 survived 748 3117 310 Joshua 3091, and had known 3045 all 3605 the deeds 4639 of the LORD 3068 which 834 He had done 6213a for Israel 3478.

 24:32 ¶ Now they buried 6912 the bones 6106 of Joseph 3130, which 834 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 brought 5927 up from Egypt 4714, at Shechem 7927, in the piece 2513a of ground 7704 which 834 Jacob 3290 had bought 7069 from the sons 1121 of Hamor 2544 the father 1 of Shechem 7927 for one hundred 3967 pieces 7192 of money 7192; and they became 1961 the inheritance 5159 of Joseph’s 3130 sons 1121.

 24:33 And Eleazar 499 the son 1121 of Aaron 175 died 4191; and they buried 6912 him at Gibeah 1390 of Phinehas 6372 his son 1121, which 834 was given 5414 him in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Ephraim 669.
