Joshua 2

1 Rahab receiveth and concealeth the two spies sent from Shittim. 8 The covenant between her and them. 23 Their return and relation.

 2:1 Then Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126 sent 7971 two 8147 men 376 as spies 7270 secretly 2791a from Shittim 7851, saying 559, “Go 1980, view 7200 the land 776, especially 853 Jericho 3405.” So they went 1980 and came 935 into the house 1004 of a harlot 802 2181 whose name 8034 was Rahab 7343, and lodged 7901 there 8033.

 2:2 It was told 559 the king 4428 of Jericho 3405, saying 559, “Behold 2009, men 376 from the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 have come 935 here 2008 tonight 3915 to search 2658 out the land 776.”

 2:3 And the king 4428 of Jericho 3405 sent 7971 [word] to Rahab 7343, saying 559, “Bring 3318 out the men 376 who have come 935 to you, who 834 have entered 935 your house 1004, for they have come 935 to search 2658 out all 3605 the land 776.”

 2:4 But the woman 802 had taken 3947 the two 8147 men 376 and hidden 6845 them, and she said 559, “Yes 3653a, the men 376 came 935 to me, but I did not know 3045 where 370 they were from.

 2:5 “It came 1961 about when [it was time] to shut 5462 the gate 8179 at dark 2822, that the men 376 went 3318 out; I do not know 3045 where 575 the men 376 went 1980. Pursue 7291 them quickly 4118b, for you will overtake 5381 them.”

 2:6 But she had brought 5927 them up to the roof 1406 and hidden 2934 them in the stalks 6086 of flax 6593 which she had laid 6186a in order 6186a on the roof 1406.

 2:7 So the men 376 pursued 7291 them on the road 1870 to the Jordan 3383 to the fords 4569b; and as soon 3512c as those who were pursuing 7291 them had gone 3318 out, they shut 5462 the gate 8179.

 2:8 ¶ Now before 2962 they lay 7901 down 7901, she came 5927 up to them on the roof 1406,

 2:9 and said 559 to the men 376, “I know 3045 that the LORD 3068 has given 5414 you the land 776, and that the terror 367 of you has fallen 5307 on us, and that all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of the land 776 have melted 4127 away 4127 before 4480 6440 you.

 2:10 “For we have heard 8085 how 834 the LORD 3068 dried 3001 up the water 4325 of the Red 5488 3220 Sea 3220 before 4480 6440 you when you came 3318 out of Egypt 4714, and what 834 you did 6213a to the two 8147 kings 4428 of the Amorites 567 who 834 were beyond 5676 the Jordan 3383, to Sihon 5511 and Og 5747, whom 834 you utterly 2763a destroyed 2763a.

 2:11 “When we heard 8085 [it], our hearts 3824 melted 4549 and no 3808 courage 7307 remained 6965 in any 376 man 376 any 5750 longer 5750 because 4480 6440 of you; for the LORD 3068 your God 430, He is God 430 in heaven 8064 above 4480 4605 and on earth 776 beneath 4480 8478.

 2:12 “Now 6258 therefore, please 4994 swear 7650 to me by the LORD 3068, since 3588 I have dealt 6213a kindly 2617a with you, that you also 1571 will deal 6213a kindly 2617a with my father’s 1 household 1004, and give 5414 me a pledge 226 of truth 571,

 2:13 and spare 2421a my father 1 and my mother 517 and my brothers 251 and my sisters 269, with all 3605 who 834 belong to them, and deliver 5337 our lives 5315 from death 4194.”

 2:14 So the men 376 said 559 to her, “Our life 5315 for yours if 518 you do not tell 5046 this 2088 business 1697 of ours; and it shall come 1961 about when the LORD 3068 gives 5414 us the land 776 that we will deal 6213a kindly 2617a and faithfully 571 with you.”

 2:15 ¶ Then she let 3381 them down 3381 by a rope 2256a through 1157 the window 2474, for her house 1004 was on the city 7023 wall 2346, so that she was living 3427 on the wall 2346.

 2:16 She said 559 to them, “Go 1980 to the hill 2022 country 2022, so 6435 that the pursuers 7291 will not happen 6293 upon you, and hide 2247 yourselves there 8033 for three 7969 days 3117 until 5704 the pursuers 7291 return 7725. Then afterward 310 you may go 1980 on your way 1870.”

 2:17 The men 376 said 559 to her, “We [shall be] free 5355a from this 2088 oath 7621 to you which 834 you have made us swear 7650,

 2:18 unless 2009, when we come 935 into the land 776, you tie 7194 this 2088 cord 8615a of scarlet 8144 thread 2339 in the window 2474 through which 834 you let 3381 us down 3381, and gather 622 to yourself into the house 1004 your father 1 and your mother 517 and your brothers 251 and all 3605 your father’s 1 household 1004.

 2:19 “It shall come 1961 about that anyone 3605 who 834 goes 3318 out of the doors 1817 of your house 1004 into the street 2351, his blood 1818 [shall be] on his own head 7218, and we [shall be] free 5355a; but anyone 3605 who 834 is with you in the house 1004, his blood 1818 [shall be] on our head 7218 if 518 a hand 3027 is [laid] on him.

 2:20 “But if 518 you tell 5046 this 2088 business 1697 of ours, then we shall be free 5355a from the oath 7621 which 834 you have made us swear 7650.”

 2:21 She said 559, “According to your words 1697, so 3651 be it.” So she sent 7971 them away 7971, and they departed 1980; and she tied 7194 the scarlet 8144 cord 8615a in the window 2474.

 2:22 ¶ They departed 1980 and came 935 to the hill 2022 country 2022, and remained 3427 there 8033 for three 7969 days 3117 until 5704 the pursuers 7291 returned 7725. Now the pursuers 7291 had sought 1245 [them] all 3605 along the road 1870, but had not found 4672 [them].

 2:23 Then the two 8147 men 376 returned 7725 and came 3381 down 3381 from the hill 2022 country 2022 and crossed 5674a over 5674a and came 935 to Joshua 3091 the son 1121 of Nun 5126, and they related 5608 to him all 3605 that had happened 4672 to them.

 2:24 They said 559 to Joshua 3091, “Surely 3588 the LORD 3068 has given 5414 all 3605 the land 776 into our hands 3027; moreover 1571, all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of the land 776 have melted 4127 away 4127 before 4480 6440 us.”
