Joshua 23

1 Joshua's exhortation before his death, 3 by former benefits, 5 by promises, 11 and by threatenings.

 23:1 Now it came 1961 about after 310 many 7227a days 3117, when 310 834 the LORD 3068 had given 5117 rest 5117 to Israel 3478 from all 3605 their enemies 340 on every 5439 side 5439, and Joshua 3091 was old 2204, advanced 935 in years 3117,

 23:2 that Joshua 3091 called 7121 for all 3605 Israel 3478, for their elders 2205 and their heads 7218 and their judges 8199 and their officers 7860, and said 559 to them, “I am 2204 old 2204, advanced 935 in years 3117.

 23:3 “And you have seen 7200 all 3605 that the LORD 3068 your God 430 has done 6213a to all 3605 these 428 nations 1471 because 4480 6440 of you, for the LORD 3068 your God 430 is He who has been fighting 3898a for you.

 23:4 “See 7200, I have apportioned 5307 to you these 428 nations 1471 which remain 7604 as an inheritance 5159 for your tribes 7626, with all 3605 the nations 1471 which 834 I have cut 3772 off 3772, from the Jordan 3383 even to the Great 1419 Sea 3220 toward the setting 3996 of the sun 8121.

 23:5 “The LORD 3068 your God 430, He will thrust 1920 them out from before 6440 you and drive 3423 them from before 6440 you; and you will possess 3423 their land 776, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 your God 430 promised 1696 you.

 23:6 “Be very 3966 firm 2388, then, to keep 8104 and do 6213a all 3605 that is written 3789 in the book 5612 of the law 8451 of Moses 4872, so that you may not turn 5493 aside 5493 from it to the right 3225 hand 3225 or to the left 8040,

 23:7 so 1115 that you will not associate 935 with these 428 nations 1471, these 428 which remain 7604 among 854 you, or mention 2142 the name 8034 of their gods 430, or make [anyone] swear 7650 [by them], or serve 5647 them, or bow 7812 down 7812 to them.

 23:8 “But you are to cling 1692 to the LORD 3068 your God 430, as you have done 6213a to this 2088 day 3117.

 23:9 “For the LORD 3068 has driven 3423 out great 1419 and strong 6099 nations 1471 from before 6440 you; and as for you, no 3808 man 376 has stood 5975 before 6440 you to this 2088 day 3117.

 23:10 “One 259 of your men 376 puts 7291 to flight 7291 a thousand 505, for the LORD 3068 your God 430 is He who fights 3898a for you, just 3512c as He promised 1696 you.

 23:11 “So take 8104 diligent 3966 heed 8104 to yourselves 5315 to love 157 the LORD 3068 your God 430.

 23:12 “For if 518 you ever 7725 go 7725 back 7725 and cling 1692 to the rest 3499a of these 428 nations 1471, these 428 which remain 7604 among 854 you, and intermarry 2859 with them, so that you associate 935 with them and they with you,

 23:13 know 3045 with certainty 3045 that the LORD 3068 your God 430 will not continue 3254 to drive 3423 these 428 nations 1471 out from before 6440 you; but they will be a snare 6341a and a trap 4170 to you, and a whip 7850 on your sides 6654 and thorns 6796 in your eyes 5869, until 5704 you perish 6 from off 5921 this 2088 good 2896a land 127 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has given 5414 you.

 23:14 ¶ “Now behold 2009, today 3117 I am going 1980 the way 1870 of all 3605 the earth 776, and you know 3045 in all 3605 your hearts 3824 and in all 3605 your souls 5315 that not one 259 word 1697 of all 3605 the good 2896a words 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 spoke 1696 concerning 5921 you has failed 5307; all 3605 have been fulfilled 935 for you, not one 259 of them has failed 5307.

 23:15 “It shall come 1961 about that just 3512c as all 3605 the good 2896a words 1697 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 spoke 1696 to you have come 935 upon you, so 3651 the LORD 3068 will bring 935 upon you all 3605 the threats 7451a 1697, until 5704 He has destroyed 8045 you from off 5921 this 2088 good 2896a land 776 which 834 the LORD 3068 your God 430 has given 5414 you.

 23:16 “When you transgress 5674a the covenant 1285 of the LORD 3068 your God 430, which 834 He commanded 6680 you, and go 1980 and serve 5647 other 312 gods 430 and bow 7812 down 7812 to them, then the anger 639 of the LORD 3068 will burn 2734 against you, and you will perish 6 quickly 4120 from off 5921 the good 2896a land 776 which 834 He has given 5414 you.”
