Joshua 20

1 God commandeth, 7 and the children of Israel appoint the six cities of refuge.

 20:1 Then the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 to Joshua 3091, saying 559,

 20:2 “Speak 1696 to the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, saying 559, ‘Designate 5414 the cities 5892b of refuge 4733, of which 834 I spoke 1696 to you through 3027 Moses 4872,

 20:3 that the manslayer 7523 who kills 5221 any person 5315 unintentionally 7684, without 1097 premeditation 1847, may flee 5127 there 8033, and they shall become 1961 your refuge 4733 from the avenger 1350 of blood 1818.

 20:4 ‘He shall flee 5127 to one 259 of these 428 cities 5892b, and shall stand 5975 at the entrance 6607 of the gate 8179 of the city 5892b and state 1696 his case 1697 in the hearing 241 of the elders 2205 of that city 5892b; and they shall take 622 him into the city 5892b to them and give 5414 him a place 4725, so that he may dwell 3427 among 5973 them.

 20:5 ‘Now if 3588 the avenger 1350 of blood 1818 pursues 7291 him, then they shall not deliver 5462 the manslayer 7523 into his hand 3027, because 3588 he struck 5221 his neighbor 7453 without 1097 premeditation 1847 and did not hate 8130 him beforehand 4480 8543 8032a.

 20:6 ‘He shall dwell 3427 in that city 5892b until 5704 he stands 5975 before 6440 the congregation 5712 for judgment 4941, until 5704 the death 4194 of the one who 834 is high 1419 priest 3548 in those 1992a days 3117. Then 227 the manslayer 7523 shall return 7725 935 to his own city 5892b and to his own house 1004, to the city 5892b from which 834 he fled 5127.’”

 20:7 ¶ So they set 6942 apart 6942 Kedesh 6943 in Galilee 1551 in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Naphtali 5321 and Shechem 7927 in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Ephraim 669, and Kiriath-arba 7153 (that is, Hebron 2275a) in the hill 2022 country 2022 of Judah 3063.

 20:8 Beyond 4480 the Jordan 3383 east 4217 of Jericho 3405, they designated 5414 Bezer 1221 in the wilderness 4057b on the plain 4334 from the tribe 4294 of Reuben 7205, and Ramoth 7216 in Gilead 1568 from the tribe 4294 of Gad 1410, and Golan 1474 in Bashan 1316 from the tribe 4294 of Manasseh 4519.

 20:9 These 428 were the appointed 4152 cities 5892b for all 3605 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 and for the stranger 1616 who sojourns 1481a among 8432 them, that whoever 3605 kills 5221 any person 5315 unintentionally 7684 may flee 5127 there 8033, and not die 4191 by the hand 3027 of the avenger 1350 of blood 1818 until 5704 he stands 5975 before 6440 the congregation 5712.
