Joshua 11

1 Divers kings are overcome at the waters of Merom. 10 Hazor is taken and burnt. 16 All the country is taken by Joshua. 21 The Anakims cut off.

 11:1 Then it came 1961 about, when Jabin 2985 king 4428 of Hazor 2674 heard 8085 [of it], that he sent 7971 to Jobab 3103 king 4428 of Madon 4068 and to the king 4428 of Shimron 8110a and to the king 4428 of Achshaph 407,

 11:2 and to the kings 4428 who 834 were of the north 6828 in the hill 2022 country 2022, and in the Arabah 6160—south 5045 of Chinneroth 3672 and in the lowland 8219 and on the heights 5299b of Dor 1756 on the west 3220—

 11:3 to the Canaanite 3669a on the east 4217 and on the west 3220, and the Amorite 567 and the Hittite 2850 and the Perizzite 6522 and the Jebusite 2983 in the hill 2022 country 2022, and the Hivite 2340 at the foot 8478 of Hermon 2768 in the land 776 of Mizpeh 4709.

 11:4 They came 3318 out, they and all 3605 their armies 4264 with them, [as] many 7227a people 5971a as the sand 2344 that is on the seashore 3220 8193, with very 3966 many 7227a horses 5483b and chariots 7393.

 11:5 So all 3605 of these 428 kings 4428 having agreed 3259 to meet 3259, came 935 and encamped 2583 together 3164a at the waters 4325 of Merom 4792, to fight 3898a against 5973 Israel 3478.

 11:6 ¶ Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to Joshua 3091, “Do not be afraid 3372a because 4480 6440 of them, for tomorrow 4279 at this 2088 time 6256 I will deliver 5414 all 3605 of them slain 2491a before 6440 Israel 3478; you shall hamstring 6136b their horses 5483b and burn 8313 their chariots 4818 with fire 784.”

 11:7 So Joshua 3091 and all 3605 the people 5971a of war 4421 with him came 935 upon them suddenly 6597 by the waters 4325 of Merom 4792, and attacked 5307 them.

 11:8 The LORD 3068 delivered 5414 them into the hand 3027 of Israel 3478, so that they defeated 5221 them, and pursued 7291 them as far 5704 as Great 7227a Sidon 6721 and Misrephoth-maim 4956 and the valley 1237 of Mizpeh 4708 to the east 4217; and they struck 5221 them until 5704 no 1115 survivor 8300 was left 7604 to them.

 11:9 Joshua 3091 did 6213a to them as the LORD 3068 had told 559 him; he hamstrung 6136b their horses 5483b and burned 8313 their chariots 4818 with fire 784.

 11:10 ¶ Then Joshua 3091 turned 7725 back 7725 at that time 6256, and captured 3920 Hazor 2674 and struck 5221 its king 4428 with the sword 2719; for Hazor 2674 formerly 6440 was the head 7218 of all 3605 these 428 kingdoms 4467.

 11:11 They struck 5221 every 3605 person 5315 who 834 was in it with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719, utterly 2763a destroying 2763a [them]; there was no 3808 3605 one left 3498 who 5397 breathed 5397. And he burned 8313 Hazor 2674 with fire 784.

 11:12 Joshua 3091 captured 3920 all 3605 the cities 5892b of these 428 kings 4428, and all 3605 their kings 4428, and he struck 5221 them with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719, [and] utterly 2763a destroyed 2763a them; just 3512c as Moses 4872 the servant 5650 of the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680.

 11:13 However 7534, Israel 3478 did not burn 8313 any 3605 cities 5892b that stood 5975 on their mounds 8510, except 2108 Hazor 2674 alone 905, [which] Joshua 3091 burned 8313.

 11:14 All 3605 the spoil 7998 of these 428 cities 5892b and the cattle 929, the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 took 962 as their plunder 962; but they struck 5221 every 3605 man 120 with the edge 6310 of the sword 2719, until 5704 they had destroyed 8045 them. They left 7604 no 3808 one 3605 who 5397 breathed 5397.

 11:15 Just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872 his servant 5650, so 3651 Moses 4872 commanded 6680 Joshua 3091, and so 3651 Joshua 3091 did 6213a; he left 5493 nothing 3808 1697 undone 5493 3808 of all 3605 that the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872.

 11:16 ¶ Thus Joshua 3091 took 3947 all 3605 that land 776: the hill 2022 country 2022 and all 3605 the Negev 5045, all 3605 that land 776 of Goshen 1657, the lowland 8219, the Arabah 6160, the hill 2022 country 2022 of Israel 3478 and its lowland 8219

 11:17 from Mount 2022 Halak 2510, that rises 5927 toward Seir 8165, even as far 5704 as Baal-gad 1171 in the valley 1237 of Lebanon 3844 at the foot 8478 of Mount 2022 Hermon 2768. And he captured 3920 all 3605 their kings 4428 and struck 5221 them down 5221 and put 4191 them to death 4191.

 11:18 Joshua 3091 waged 6213a war 4421 a long 7227a time 3117 with all 3605 these 428 kings 4428.

 11:19 There was not a city 5892b which 834 made 7999b peace 7999b with the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 except 1115 the Hivites 2340 living 3427 in Gibeon 1391; they took 3947 them all 3605 in battle 4421.

 11:20 For it was of the LORD 3068 to harden 2388 their hearts 3820, to meet 7122 Israel 3478 in battle 4421 in order 4616 that he might utterly 2763a destroy 2763a them, that they might receive 1961 no 1115 mercy 8467, but that he might destroy 8045 them, just 3512c as the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 Moses 4872.

 11:21 ¶ Then Joshua 3091 came 935 at that time 6256 and cut 3772 off 3772 the Anakim 6062 from the hill 2022 country 2022, from Hebron 2275a, from Debir 1688, from Anab 6024 and from all 3605 the hill 2022 country 2022 of Judah 3063 and from all 3605 the hill 2022 country 2022 of Israel 3478. Joshua 3091 utterly 2763a destroyed 2763a them with their cities 5892b.

 11:22 There were no 3808 Anakim 6062 left 3498 in the land 776 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478; only 7534 in Gaza 5804a, in Gath 1661, and in Ashdod 795 some remained 7604.

 11:23 So Joshua 3091 took 3947 the whole 3605 land 776, according to all 3605 that the LORD 3068 had spoken 1696 to Moses 4872, and Joshua 3091 gave 5414 it for an inheritance 5159 to Israel 3478 according to their divisions 4256 by their tribes 7626. Thus the land 776 had 8252 rest 8252 from war 4421.
