John 8

1 Christ delivereth the woman taken in adultery. 12 He preacheth himself the light of the world, and justifieth his doctrine: 33 answereth the Jews that boasted of Abraham, 59 and conveyeth himself from their cruelty.

 8:1 But Jesus 2424 went 4198 to the Mount 3735 of Olives 1636.

 8:2 Early 3722 in the morning 3722 He came 3854 again 3825 into the temple 2413, and all 3956 the people 2992 were coming 2064 to Him; and He sat 2523 down 2523 and [began] to teach 1321 them.

 8:3 The scribes 1122 and the Pharisees 5330 *brought 71 a woman 1135 caught 2638 in adultery 3430, and having set 2476 her in the center 3319 [of the court],

 8:4 they *said 3004 to Him, “Teacher 1320, this 3778 woman 1135 has been caught 2638 in adultery 3431, in the very 849a act 849a.

 8:5 “Now 1161 in the Law 3551 Moses 3475 commanded 1781 us to stone 3034 such 5108 women 5108; what 5101 then 3767 do You say 3004?”

 8:6 They were saying 3004 this 3778, testing 3985 Him, so 2443 that they might have 2192 grounds for accusing 2723 Him. But Jesus 2424 stooped 2955 down 2736 and with His finger 1147 wrote 2608b on the ground 1093.

 8:7 But when 5613 they persisted 1961 in asking 2065 Him, He straightened 352b up, and said 3004 to them, “He who is without 361 sin 361 among you, let him [be the] first 4413 to throw 906 a stone 3037 at her.”

 8:8 Again 3825 He stooped 2634a down 2634a and wrote 1125 on the ground 1093.

 8:9 When they heard 191 it, they [began] to go 1831 out one 1520 by one 1520, beginning 757 with the older 4245 ones 4245, and He was left 2641 alone 3441, and the woman 1135, where she was, in the center 3319 [of the court].

 8:10 Straightening 352b up, Jesus 2424 said 3004 to her, “Woman 1135, where 4226 are they? Did no 3762 one 3762 condemn 2632 you?”

 8:11 She said 3004, “No 3762 one 3762, Lord 2962.” And Jesus 2424 said 3004, “I do not condemn 2632 you, either 3761. Go 4198. From now 3568 on sin 264 no 3371 more 3371.”]]

 8:12 ¶ Then 3767 Jesus 2424 again 3825 spoke 2980 to them, saying 3004, “I am 1510 the Light 5457 of the world 2889; he who follows 190 Me will not walk 4043 in the darkness 4653, but will have 2192 the Light 5457 of life 2222.”

 8:13 So 3767 the Pharisees 5330 said 3004 to Him, “You are testifying 3140 about 4012 Yourself 4572; Your testimony 3141 is not true 227.”

 8:14 Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, “Even 2579 if 2579 I testify 3140 about 4012 Myself 1683, My testimony 3140 is true 227, for I know 3609a where 4159 I came 2064 from and where 4226 I am going 5217; but you do not know 3609a where 4159 I come 2064 from or 2228 where 4226 I am going 5217.

 8:15 “You judge 2919 according 2596 to the flesh 4561; I am not judging 2919 anyone 3762.

 8:16 “But even 2532 if 1437 I do judge 2919, My judgment 2920 is true 228; for I am 1510 not alone 3441 [in it], but I and the Father who sent 3992 Me.

 8:17 “Even 2532 in your law 3551 it has been written 1125 that the testimony 3141 of two 1417 men 444 is true 227.

 8:18 “I am 1510 He who testifies 3140 about 4012 Myself 1683, and the Father 3962 who sent 3992 Me testifies 3140 about 4012 Me.”

 8:19 So 3767 they were saying 3004 to Him, “Where 4226 is Your Father 3962?” Jesus 2424 answered 611, “You know 3609a neither 3777 Me nor 3777 My Father 3962; if 1487 you knew 3609a Me, you would know 3609a My Father 3962 also 2532.”

 8:20 These 3778 words 4487 He spoke 2980 in the treasury 1049, as He taught 1321 in the temple 2413; and no 3762 one 3762 seized 4084 Him, because 3754 His hour 5610 had not yet 3768 come 2064.

 8:21 ¶ Then 3767 He said 3004 again 3825 to them, “I go 5217 away 5217, and you will seek 2212 Me, and will die 599 in your sin 266; where 3699 I am going 5217, you cannot 1410 3756 come 2064.”

 8:22 So 3767 the Jews 2453 were saying 3004, “Surely 3385 He will not kill 615 Himself 1438, will He, since 3754 He says 3004, ‘Where 3699 I am going 5217, you cannot 1410 3756 come 2064’?”

 8:23 And He was saying 3004 to them, “You are from below 2736, I am 1510 from above 507; you are of this 3778 world 2889, I am 1510 not of this 3778 world 2889.

 8:24 “Therefore 3767 I said 3004 to you that you will die 599 in your sins 266; for unless 1437 3361 you believe 4100 that I am 1510 [He], you will die 599 in your sins 266.”

 8:25 So 3767 they were saying 3004 to Him, “Who 5101 are You?” Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “What 3739 5101 have I been saying 2980 to you [from] the beginning 746?

 8:26 “I have 2192 many 4183 things 4183 to speak 2980 and to judge 2919 concerning 4012 you, but He who sent 3992 Me is true 227; and the things which 3739 I heard 191 from Him, these 3778 I speak 2980 to the world 2889.”

 8:27 They did not realize 1097 that He had been speaking 3004 to them about the Father 3962.

 8:28 So 3767 Jesus 2424 said 3004, “When 3752 you lift 5312 up the Son 5207 of Man 444, then 5119 you will know 1097 that I am 1510 [He], and I do 4160 nothing 3762 on My own 1683 initiative 1683, but I speak 2980 these 3778 things 3778 as the Father 3962 taught 1321 Me.

 8:29 “And He who sent 3992 Me is with Me; He has not left 863 Me alone 3441, for I always 3842 do 4160 the things 701 that are pleasing 701 to Him.”

 8:30 As He spoke 2980 these 3778 things 3778, many 4183 came to believe 4100 in Him.

 8:31 ¶ So 3767 Jesus 2424 was saying 3004 to those 3588 Jews 2453 who had believed 4100 Him, “If 1437 you continue 3306 in My word 3056, [then] you are truly 230 disciples 3101 of Mine 1473;

 8:32 and you will know 1097 the truth 225, and the truth 225 will make 1659 you free 1659.”

 8:33 They answered 611 Him, “We are Abraham’s 11 descendants 4690 and have never 3762 4455 yet 4455 been enslaved 1398 to anyone 3762; how 4459 is it that You say 3004, ‘You will become 1096 free 1658’?”

 8:34 ¶ Jesus 2424 answered 611 them, “Truly 281, truly 281, I say 3004 to you, everyone 3956 who commits 4160 sin 266 is the slave 1401 of sin 266.

 8:35 “The slave 1401 does not remain 3306 in the house 3614 forever 165; the son 5207 does remain 3306 forever 165.

 8:36 “So 3767 if 1437 the Son 5207 makes 1659 you free 1659, you will be free 1658 indeed 3689.

 8:37 “I know 3609a that you are Abraham’s 11 descendants 4690; yet 235 you seek 2212 to kill 615 Me, because 3754 My word 3056 has 5562 no 3756 place 5562 in you.

 8:38 “I speak 2980 the things which 3739 I have seen 3708 with [My] Father 3962; therefore 3767 you also 2532 do 4160 the things which 3739 you heard 191 from [your] father 3962.”

 8:39 ¶ They answered 611 and said 3004 to Him, “Abraham 11 is our father 3962.” Jesus 2424 *said 3004 to them, “If 1487 you are Abraham’s 11 children 5043, do 4160 the deeds 2041 of Abraham 11.

 8:40 “But as it is, you are seeking 2212 to kill 615 Me, a man 444 who 3739 has told 2980 you the truth 225, which 3739 I heard 191 from God 2316; this 3778 Abraham 11 did not do 4160.

 8:41 “You are doing 4160 the deeds 2041 of your father 3962.” They said 3004 to Him, “We were not born 1080 of fornication 4202; we have 2192 one 1520 Father 3962: God 2316.”

 8:42 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “If 1487 God 2316 were your Father 3962, you would love 25 Me, for I proceeded 1831 forth 1831 and have 2240 come 2240 from God 2316, for I have not even 3761 come 2064 on My own 1683 initiative 1683, but He sent 649 Me.

 8:43 “Why 1223 5101 do you not understand 1097 what 2981 I am saying 2981? [It is] because 3754 you cannot 1410 3756 hear 191 My word 3056.

 8:44 “You are of [your] father 3962 the devil 1228, and you want 2309 to do 4160 the desires 1939 of your father 3962. He was a murderer 443 from the beginning 746, and does not stand 4739 in the truth 225 because 3754 there is no 3756 truth 225 in him. Whenever 3752 he speaks 2980 a lie 5579, he speaks 2980 from his own 2398 [nature], for he is a liar 5583 and the father 3962 of lies 846.

 8:45 “But because 3754 I speak 3004 the truth 225, you do not believe 4100 Me.

 8:46 “Which 5101 one 5101 of you convicts 1651 Me of sin 266? If 1487 I speak 3004 truth 225, why 1223 5101 do you not believe 4100 Me?

 8:47 “He who is of God 2316 hears 191 the words 4487 of God 2316; for this 3778 reason 1223 you do not hear 191 [them], because 3754 you are not of God 2316.”

 8:48 ¶ The Jews 2453 answered 611 and said 3004 to Him, “Do we not say 3004 rightly 2573 that You are a Samaritan 4541 and have 2192 a demon 1140?”

 8:49 Jesus 2424 answered 611, “I do not have 2192 a demon 1140; but I honor 5091 My Father 3962, and you dishonor 818 Me.

 8:50 “But I do not seek 2212 My glory 1391; there is One who seeks 2212 and judges 2919.

 8:51 “Truly 281, truly 281, I say 3004 to you, if 1437 anyone 5100 keeps 5083 My word 3056 he will never 3756 3361 see 2334 death 2288.”

 8:52 The Jews 2453 said 3004 to Him, “Now 3568 we know 1097 that You have 2192 a demon 1140. Abraham 11 died 599, and the prophets 4396 [also]; and You say 3004, ‘If 1437 anyone 5100 keeps 5083 My word 3056, he will never 3756 3361 taste 1089 of death 2288.’

 8:53 “Surely 3361 You are not greater 3173 than our father 3962 Abraham 11, who 3748 died 599? The prophets 4396 died 599 too 2532; whom 5101 do You make 4160 Yourself 4572 out [to be]?”

 8:54 Jesus 2424 answered 611, “If 1437 I glorify 1392 Myself 1683, My glory 1391 is nothing 3762; it is My Father 3962 who glorifies 1392 Me, of whom 3739 you say 3004, ‘He is our God 2316’;

 8:55 and you have not come to know 1097 Him, but I know 3609a Him; and if 2579 I say 3004 that I do not know 3609a Him, I will be a liar 5583 like 3664 you, but I do know 3609a Him and keep 5083 His word 3056.

 8:56 “Your father 3962 Abraham 11 rejoiced 21 to see 3708 My day 2250, and he saw 3708 [it] and was glad 5463.”

 8:57 So 3767 the Jews 2453 said 3004 to Him, “You are not yet 3768 fifty 4004 years 2094 old, and have You seen 3708 Abraham 11?”

 8:58 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, “Truly 281, truly 281, I say 3004 to you, before 4250 Abraham 11 was born 1096, I am 1510.”

 8:59 Therefore 3767 they picked 142 up stones 3037 to throw 906 at Him, but Jesus 2424 hid 2928 Himself and went 1831 out of the temple 2413.
