1 Christ comforteth his disciples against tribulation by the promise of the Holy Ghost, and by his resurrection and ascension: 23 assureth their prayers made in his name to be acceptable to his Father. 33 Peace in Christ, and in the world affliction.
16:1
“These 3778 things 3778 I have spoken 2980 to you so 2443 that you may be kept 3361 from stumbling 4624.
16:2
“They will make 4160 you outcasts 656 from the synagogue 656, but an hour 5610 is coming 2064 for everyone 3956 who kills 615 you to think 1380 that he is offering 4374 service 2999 to God 2316.
16:3
“These 3778 things 3778 they will do 4160 because 3754 they have not known 1097 the Father 3962 or 3761 Me.
16:4
“But these 3778 things 3778 I have spoken 2980 to you, so 2443 that when 3752 their hour 5610 comes 2064, you may remember 3421 that I told 3004 you of them. These 3778 things 3778 I did not say 3004 to you at the beginning 746, because 3754 I was with you.
16:5
¶ “But now 3568 I am going 5217 to Him who sent 3992 Me; and none 3762 of you asks 2065 Me, ‘Where 4226 are You going 5217?’
16:6
“But because 3754 I have said 2980 these 3778 things 3778 to you, sorrow 3077 has filled 4137 your heart 2588.
16:7
“But I tell 3004 you the truth 225, it is to your advantage 4851a that I go 565 away 565; for if 1437 I do not go 565 away 565, the Helper 3875 will not come 2064 to you; but if 1437 I go 4198, I will send 3992 Him to you.
16:8
“And He, when He comes 2064, will convict 1651 the world 2889 concerning 4012 sin 266 and righteousness 1343 and judgment 2920;
16:9
concerning 4012 sin 266, because 3754 they do not believe 4100 in Me;
16:10
and concerning 4012 righteousness 1343, because 3754 I go 5217 to the Father 3962 and you no 3765 longer 3765 see 2334 Me;
16:11
and concerning 4012 judgment 2920, because 3754 the ruler 758 of this 3778 world 2889 has been judged 2919.
16:12
¶ “I have 2192 many 4183 more 2089 things 4183 to say 3004 to you, but you cannot 1410 3756 bear 941 [them] now 737.
16:13
“But when 3752 He, the Spirit 4151 of truth 225, comes 2064, He will guide 3594 you into all 3956 the truth 225; for He will not speak 2980 on His own 1438 initiative 1438, but whatever 3745 He hears 191, He will speak 2980; and He will disclose 312 to you what is to come 2064.
16:14
“He will glorify 1392 Me, for He will take 2983 of Mine 1699 and will disclose 312 [it] to you.
16:15
“All 3956 things 3956 that the Father 3962 has 2192 are Mine 1699; therefore 1223 3778 I said 3004 that He takes 2983 of Mine 1699 and will disclose 312 [it] to you.
16:16
¶ “A little 3398 while 3398, and you will no 3765 longer 3765 see 3708 Me; and again 3825 a little 3398 while 3398, and you will see 3708 Me.”
16:17
[Some] of His disciples 3101 then 3767 said 3004 to one 240 another 240, “What 5101 is this 3778 thing 3778 He is telling 3004 us, ‘A little 3398 while 3398, and you will not see 3708 Me; and again 3825 a little 3398 while 3398, and you will see 3708 Me’; and, ‘because 3754 I go 5217 to the Father 3962’?”
16:18
So 3767 they were saying 3004, “What 5101 is this 3778 that He says 3004, ‘A little 3398 while 3398’? We do not know 3609a what 5101 He is talking 2980 about.”
16:19
Jesus 2424 knew 1097 that they wished 2309 to question 2065 Him, and He said 3004 to them, “Are you deliberating 2212 together 3326 240 about 4012 this 3778, that I said 3004, ‘A little 3398 while 3398, and you will not see 3708 Me, and again 3825 a little 3398 while 3398, and you will see 3708 Me’?
16:20
“Truly 281, truly 281, I say 3004 to you, that you will weep 2799 and lament 2354, but the world 2889 will rejoice 5463; you will grieve 3076, but your grief 3077 will be turned 1096 into joy 5479.
16:21
“Whenever 3752 a woman 1135 is in labor 5088 she has 2192 pain 3077, because 3754 her hour 5610 has come 2064; but when 3752 she gives 1080 birth 1080 to the child 3813, she no 3765 longer 3765 remembers 3421 the anguish 2347 because 3754 of the joy 5479 that a child 444 has been born 1080 into the world 2889.
16:22
“Therefore 3767 you too 2532 have 2192 grief 3077 now 3568; but I will see 3708 you again 3825, and your heart 2588 will rejoice 5463, and no 3762 one 3762 [will] take 142 your joy 5479 away 142 from you.
16:23
“In that day 2250 you will not question 2065 Me about anything 5100. Truly 281, truly 281, I say 3004 to you, if 302 you ask 154 the Father 3962 for anything 5100 in My name 3686, He will give 1325 it to you.
16:24
“Until 2193 now 737 you have asked 154 for nothing 3762 in My name 3686; ask 154 and you will receive 2983, so 2443 that your joy 5479 may be made 4137 full 4137.
16:25
¶ “These 3778 things 3778 I have spoken 2980 to you in figurative 3942 language 3942; an hour 5610 is coming 2064 when 3753 I will no 3765 longer 3765 speak 2980 to you in figurative 3942 language 3942, but will tell 518 you plainly 3954 of the Father 3962.
16:26
“In that day 2250 you will ask 154 in My name 3686, and I do not say 3004 to you that I will request 2065 of the Father 3962 on your behalf 4012;
16:27
for the Father 3962 Himself 846 loves 5368 you, because 3754 you have loved 5368 Me and have believed 4100 that I came 1831 forth 1831 from the Father 3962.
16:28
“I came 1831 forth 1831 from the Father 3962 and have come 2064 into the world 2889; I am leaving 863 the world 2889 again 3825 and going 4198 to the Father 3962.”
16:29
¶ His disciples 3101 *said 3004, “Lo 2396, now 3568 You are speaking 2980 plainly 3954 and are not using 3004 a figure 3942 of speech 3942.
16:30
“Now 3568 we know 3609a that You know 3609a all 3956 things 3956, and have 2192 no 3756 need 5532 for anyone 5100 to question 2065 You; by this 3778 we believe 4100 that You came 1831 from God 2316.”
16:31
Jesus 2424 answered 611 them, “Do you now 737 believe 4100?
16:32
“Behold 2400, an hour 5610 is coming 2064, and has [already] come 2064, for you to be scattered 4650, each 1538 to his own 2398 [home], and to leave 863 Me alone 3441; and [yet] I am 1510 not alone 3441, because 3754 the Father 3962 is with Me.
16:33
“These 3778 things 3778 I have spoken 2980 to you, so 2443 that in Me you may have 2192 peace 1515. In the world 2889 you have 2192 tribulation 2347, but take 2293 courage 2293; I have overcome 3528 the world 2889.”
