 23:1 ¶ Woe to the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of their pasture!

 23:1 ¶ Woeº be unto the pastorsºº that destroyºº and scatterººº the sheepº of my pasture!º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:2 Therefore thus saith the Lord against them that tend my people; Ye have scattered my sheep, and driven them out, and ye have not visited them: behold, I [will] take vengeance upon you according to your evil practices.

 23:2 Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahwehº Elohimº of Israelº againstº the pastorsºº that feedººº my people;º Yeº have scatteredººº my flock,º and driven them away,ºº and have notº visitedºº them: behold,º I will visitºº uponº youº the evilº of your doings,º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:3 And I will gather in the remnant of my people in every land, whither I have driven them out, and will set them in their pasture; and they shall increase and be multiplied.

 23:3 And Iº will gatherººº the remnantº of my flockº out of allºº countriesº whitherºº I have drivenºº them, and will bring them againººº toº their folds;º and they shall be fruitfulºº and increase.ºº

 23:4 And I will raise up shepherds to them, who shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be alarmed, saith the Lord.

 23:4 And I will set upºº shepherdsºº overº them which shall feedºº them: and they shall fearºº noº more,º norº be dismayed,ºº neitherº shall they be lacking,ºº saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:5 ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous branch, and a king shall reign and understand, and shall execute judgment and righteousness on the earth.

 23:5 ¶ Behold,º the daysº come,ºº saithºº Yahweh,º that I will raiseºº unto Davidº a righteousº Branch,º and a Kingº shall reignºº and prosper,ºº and shall executeºº judgmentº and justiceº in the earth.º

 23:6 In his days both Judah{gr.Juda} shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell securely: and this is his name, which the Lord shall call him, Jozadak{gr.Josedec} among the prophets.

 23:6 In his daysº Judahº shall be saved,ºº and Israelº shall dwellºº safely:º and thisº [is] his nameº wherebyº he shall be called,ºº YAHWEHº ZIDKENU.ºº

 23:7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when they shall no more say, The Lord lives, who brought up the house of Israel out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt};

 23:7 Therefore,º behold,º the daysº come,ºº saithºº Yahweh,º that they shall noº moreº say,ºº Yahwehº liveth,º whichº brought upººº the childrenº of Israelº out of the landºº of Egypt;º

 23:8 but The Lord lives, who has gathered the whole seed of Israel from the north land, and from all the countries whither he [had] driven them out, and has restored them into their own land.

 23:8 But,ºº Yahwehº liveth,º whichº brought upºº and whichº ledººº the seedº of the houseº of Israelº out of the northº country,ºº and from allºº countriesº whitherºº I had drivenºº them; and they shall dwellºº inº their own land.º

 23:9 ¶ My heart is broken within me; all my bones are shaken: I am become as a broken-down man, and as a man overcome with wine, because of the Lord, and because of the excellence of his glory.

 23:9 ¶ Mine heartº withinº me is brokenºº because of the prophets;º allº my bonesº shake;ºº I amº like a drunkenº man,º and like a manº whom wineº hath overcome,ºº becauseºº of Yahweh,º and becauseºº of the wordsº of his holiness.º

 23:10 For because of these things the land mourns; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up; and their course is become evil, and so [also] their strength.

 23:10 Forº the landº is fullºº of adulterers;ºº forº becauseºº of swearingº the landº mourneth;ºº the pleasant placesº of the wildernessº are dried up,ºº and their courseº isº evil,º and their forceº [is] notº right.º

 23:11 For priest and prophet are defiled; and I have seen their iniquities in my house.

 23:11 Forº bothº prophetº andº priestº are profane;ºº yea,º in my houseº have I foundºº their wickedness,º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:12 Therefore let their way be to them slippery and dark: and they shall be tripped up and fall in it: for I will bring evils upon them, in the year of their visitation.

 23:12 Whereforeº their wayº shall beº unto them as slipperyº [ways] in the darkness:º they shall be driven on,ºº and fallºº therein: forº I will bringºº evilº uponº them, [even] the yearº of their visitation,º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:13 And in the prophets of Samaria I have seen lawless deeds; they prophesied by Baal, and led my people Israel astray.

 23:13 And I have seenºº follyº in the prophetsº of Samaria;º they prophesiedºº in Baal,º and causedº my peopleºº Israelº to err.ºº

 23:14 Also in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen horrible things: as they committed adultery, and walked in lies, and strengthened the hands of many, that they should not return each from his evil way: they are all become to me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah{gr.Gomorrha}.

 23:14 I have seenºº also in the prophetsº of Jerusalemº an horrible thing:º they commit adultery,ºº and walkºº in lies:º they strengthenºº also the handsº of evildoers,ºº that noneºº doth returnºº from his wickedness:ºº they areº allº of them unto me as Sodom,º and the inhabitantsºº thereof as Gomorrah.º

 23:15 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will feed them with pain, and give them bitter water to drink: for from the prophets of Jerusalem has defilement gone forth [into] all the land.

 23:15 Thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahwehº Sabaothº concerningº the prophets;º Behold,º I will feedºº them with wormwood,º and make them drinkºº the waterº of gall:º forº fromºº the prophetsº of Jerusalemº is profanenessº gone forthºº into allº the land.º

 23:16 Thus saith the Lord Almighty, Hearken not to the words of the prophets: for they frame a vain vision for themselves; they speak from their own heart, and not from the mouth of the Lord.

 23:16 Thusº saithºº Yahwehº Sabaoth,º Hearkenºº notº untoº the wordsº of the prophetsº that prophesyºº unto you: they make you vain:ººº theyº speakºº a visionº of their own heart,º [and] notº out of the mouthºº of Yahweh.º

 23:17 They say to them that reject the word of the Lord, There shall be peace to you; and to all that walk after their own lusts, and to everyone that walks in the error of his heart, they have said, No evil shall come upon thee.

 23:17 They sayºº stillºº unto them that despiseºº me, Yahwehº hath said,ºº Ye shall haveº peace;º and they sayºº unto every oneº that walkethºº after the imaginationº of his own heart,º Noº evilº shall comeºº uponº you.

 23:18 For who has stood in the counsel of the Lord, and seen his word? who has hearkened, and heard?

 23:18 Forº whoº hath stoodºº in the counselº of Yahweh,º and hath perceivedºº and heardººº his word?º whoº hath markedºº his word,º and heardºº [it]?

 23:19 Behold, [there is] an earthquake from the Lord, and anger proceeds to a convulsion, it shall come violently upon the ungodly.

 23:19 Behold,º a whirlwindº of Yahwehº is gone forthºº in fury,º even a grievousºº whirlwind:º it shall fall grievouslyºº uponº the headº of the wicked.º

 23:20 And the Lord's wrath shall return no more, until he have accomplished it, and until he have established it, according to the purpose of his heart: at the end of the days they shall understand it.

 23:20 The angerº of Yahwehº shall notº return,ºº untilº he have executed,ºº and tillº he have performedºº the thoughtsº of his heart:º in the latterº daysº ye shall considerºº it perfectly.º

 23:21 I sent not the prophets, yet they ran: neither spoke I to them, yet they prophesied.

 23:21 I have notº sentººº these prophets,º yet theyº ran:ºº I have notº spokenºº toº them, yet theyº prophesied.ºº

 23:22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and if they had hearkened to my words, then would they have turned my people from their evil practices.

 23:22 But ifº they had stoodºº in my counsel,º and had causedº my peopleº to hearºº my words,º then they should have turnedºº them from their evilº way,ºº and from the evilºº of their doings.º

 23:23 I am a God nigh at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off.

 23:23 [Am] Iº an Elohimº at hand,ºº saithºº Yahweh,º and notº an Elohimº afar off?ºº

 23:24 Shall any one hide himself in secret places, and I not see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.

 23:24 Canº anyº hideºº himselfº in secret placesº that Iº shall notº seeºº him? saithºº Yahweh.º Do notº Iº fillººº heavenº and earth?º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:25 I have heard what the prophets say, what they prophesy in my name, saying falsely, I have seen a night vision.

 23:25 I have heardººº whatº the prophetsº said,ºº that prophesyºº liesº in my name,º saying,ºº I have dreamed,ºº I have dreamed.ºº

 23:26 How long shall [these things] be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies, when they prophesy the purposes of their own heart?

 23:26 How longºº shall [this] beº in the heartº of the prophetsº that prophesyºº lies?º yea, [they are] prophetsº of the deceitº of their own heart;º

 23:27 who devise that [men] may forget my law by their dreams, which they have told every one to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot my name in [the worship of] Baal.

 23:27 Which thinkºº to causeº my peopleº to forgetºº my nameº by their dreamsº whichº they tellºº every manº to his neighbour,º asº their fathersº have forgottenººº my nameº for Baal.º

 23:28 The prophet who has a dream, let him tell his dream; and [he] in whom is my word [spoken] to him, let him tell my word truly: what is the chaff to the corn? so are my words, saith the Lord.

 23:28 The prophetº thatºº hath a dream,º let him tellºº a dream;º and he thatºº hath my word,º let him speakºº my wordº faithfully.º Whatº [is] the chaffº toº the wheat?º saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:29 Behold, are not my words as fire? saith the Lord; and as an axe cutting the rock?

 23:29 [Is] notº my wordº likeº as a fire?º saithºº Yahweh;º and like a hammerº [that] breakethºº the rockº in pieces?ºº

 23:30 Behold, I am therefore against the prophets, saith the Lord God, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

 23:30 Therefore,º behold,º I [am] againstº the prophets,º saithºº Yahweh,º that stealºº my wordsº every oneº fromºº his neighbour.º

 23:31 Behold, I am against the prophets that put forth prophecies of mere words, and slumber their sleep.

 23:31 Behold,º I [am] againstº the prophets,º saithºº Yahweh,º that useºº their tongues,º and say,ºº He saith.ºº

 23:32 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets that prophesy false dreams, and have not told them [truly], and have caused my people to err by their lies, and by their errors; yet I sent them not, and commanded them not; therefore, they shall not profit this people at all.

 23:32 Behold,º I [am] againstº them that prophesyºº falseº dreams,º saithºº Yahweh,º and do tellºº them, and causeº my peopleº to errºº by their lies,º and by their lightness;º yet Iº sentºº them not,º norº commandedºº them: therefore they shall notº profitºº this peopleº at all,ºººº saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:33 ¶ And if this people, or the priest, or the prophet, should ask, What is the burden of the Lord? then thou shalt say to them, Ye are the burden, and I will dash you down, saith the Lord.

 23:33 ¶ And whenº thisº people,º orº the prophet,º orº a priest,º shall askºº thee, saying,ºº Whatº [is] the burdenº of Yahweh?º thou shalt then sayºº untoº them,º Whatº burden?º I will even forsakeºº you, saithºº Yahweh.º

 23:34 [As for] the prophet, and the priests, and the people, who shall say, The burden of the Lord, I will even take vengeance on that man, and on his house.

 23:34 And [as for] the prophet,º and the priest,º and the people,º thatº shall say,ºº The burdenº of Yahweh,º I will even punishººº thatº manº and his house.º

 23:35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What has the Lord answered? and, what has the Lord said?

 23:35 Thusº shall ye sayºº every oneº toº his neighbour,º and every oneº toº his brother,º Whatº hath Yahwehº answered?ºº and, Whatº hath Yahwehº spoken?ºº

 23:36 And do ye name no more the burden of the Lord; for his own word shall be a man's burden.

 23:36 And the burdenº of Yahwehº shall ye mentionºº noº more:º forº every man'sº wordº shall beº his burden;º for ye have pervertedººº the wordsº of the livingº Elohim,º of Yahwehº Sabaothº our Elohim.º

 23:37 But wherefore, [say ye], has the Lord our God spoken?

 23:37 Thusº shalt thou sayºº toº the prophet,º Whatº hath Yahwehº answeredºº thee? and, Whatº hath Yahwehº spoken?ºº

 23:38 Therefore thus saith the Lord our God; Because ye have spoken this word, The burden of the Lord, and I sent to you, saying, ye shall not say, The burden of the Lord;

 23:38 Butº sinceº ye say,ºº The burdenº of Yahweh;º thereforeº thusº saithºº Yahweh;º Becauseº ye sayººº thisº word,º The burdenº of Yahweh,º and I have sentºº untoº you, saying,ºº Ye shall notº say,ºº The burdenº of Yahweh;º

 23:39 therefore, behold, I [will] seize, and dash down you and the city which I gave to you and your fathers.

 23:39 Therefore,º behold,º I, even I, will utterlyºº forgetºº you, and I will forsakeºº you, and the cityº thatº I gaveºº you and your fathers,º [and cast you] out ofºº my presence:º

 23:40 And I will bring upon you an everlasting reproach, and everlasting disgrace, which shall not be forgotten.

 23:40 And I will bringºº an everlastingº reproachº uponº you, and a perpetualº shame,º whichº shall notº be forgotten.ºº
