 11:1 ¶ And I in the first year of Cyrus stood to strengthen and confirm [him].

 11:1 ¶ Also Iº in the firstº yearº of Dariusº the Mede,º [even] I, stoodºº to confirmºº and to strengthenº him.

 11:2 And now I will tell thee the truth. Behold, there shall yet rise up three kings in Persia: and the fourth shall be very far richer than all: and after that he is master of his wealth, he shall rise up against all the kingdoms of the Greeks.

 11:2 And nowº will I shewºº thee the truth.º Behold,º there shall stand upºº yetº threeº kingsº in Persia;º and the fourthº shall be farº richerºººº than [they] all:ººº and by his strengthº through his richesº he shall stir upºº allº againstº the realmº of Grecia.º

 11:3 An there shall rise up a mighty king, and he shall be lord of a great empire, and shall do according to his will.

 11:3 And a mightyº kingº shall stand up,ºº that shall ruleºº with greatº dominion,º and doºº according to his will.º

 11:4 And when his kingdom shall stand up, it shall be broken, and shall be divided to the four winds of heaven; but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled over: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, and [given] to others beside these.

 11:4 And when he shall stand up,ºº his kingdomº shall be broken,ºº and shall be dividedºº toward the fourº windsº of heaven;º and notº to his posterity,º norº according to his dominionº whichº he ruled:ºº forº his kingdomº shall be plucked up,ºº even for othersº besideºº those.º

 11:5 ¶ And the king of the south shall be strong; and one of their princes shall prevail against him, and shall obtain a great dominion.

 11:5 ¶ And the kingº of the southº shall be strong,ºº and [one] ofº his princes;º and he shall be strongºº aboveº him, and have dominion;ºº his dominionºº [shall be] a greatº dominion.º

 11:6 And after his years they shall associate; and the daughter of the king of the south shall come to the king of the north, to make agreements with him: but she shall not retain power of arm; neither shall his seed stand: and she shall be delivered up, and they that brought her, and the maiden, and he that strengthened her in these times.

 11:6 And in the endº of yearsº they shall join themselves together;ºº for the king'sº daughterº of the southº shall comeºº toº the kingº of the northº to makeºº an agreement:º but she shall notº retainºº the powerº of the arm;º neitherº shall he stand,ºº nor his arm:º but sheº shall be given up,ºº and they that broughtºº her, and he that begatºº her, and he that strengthenedºº her in [these] times.º

 11:7 [But] out of the flower of her root there shall arise [one on] his place, and shall come against the host, and shall enter into the strongholds of the king of the north, and shall fight against them, and prevail.

 11:7 But out of a branchºº of her rootsº shall [one] stand upºº in his estate,º which shall comeºº withº an army,º and shall enterºº into the fortressº of the kingº of the north,º and shall dealºº against them, and shall prevail:ºº

 11:8 Yea, he shall carry with a body of captives into Mizraim{gr.Egypt} their gods with their molten [images, and] all their precious vessels of silver and gold; and he shall last longer than the king of the north.

 11:8 And shall alsoº carryºº captivesº into Egyptº their elohim,º withº their princes,º [and] withº their preciousº vesselsº of silverº and of gold;º and heº shall continueºº [more] yearsº than the kingºº of the north.º

 11:9 And he shall enter into the kingdom of the king of the south, and shall return to his own land.

 11:9 So the kingº of the southº shall comeºº into [his] kingdom,º and shall returnºº intoº his own land.º

 11:10 And his sons shall gather a multitude among many: and one shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through, and he shall rest, and collect his strength.

 11:10 But his sonsº shall be stirred up,ºº and shall assembleºº a multitudeº of greatº forces:º and [one] shall certainlyºº come,ºº and overflow,ºº and pass through:ºº then shall he return,ºº and be stirred up,ºº [even] toº his fortress.º

 11:11 And the king of the south shall be greatly enraged, and shall come forth, and shall war with the king of the north: and he shall raise a great multitude; but the multitude shall be delivered into his hand.

 11:11 And the kingº of the southº shall be moved with choler,ºº and shall come forthºº and fightºº withº him, [even] withº the kingº of the north:º and he shall set forthºº a greatº multitude;º but the multitudeº shall be givenºº into his hand.º

 11:12 And he shall take the multitude, and his heart shall be exalted; and he shall cast down many thousands; but he shall not prevail.

 11:12 [And] when he hath taken awayºº the multitude,º his heartº shall be lifted up;ºººº and he shall cast downºº [many] ten thousands:º but he shall notº be strengthenedºº [by it].

 11:13 For the king of the north shall return, and bring a multitude greater than the former, and at the end of the times of years an invading army shall come with a great force, and with much substance.

 11:13 For the kingº of the northº shall return,ºº and shall set forthºº a multitudeº greaterº thanº the former,º and shall certainlyºº comeºº afterº certainº yearsº with a greatº armyº and with muchº riches.º

 11:14 And in those times many shall rise up against the king of the south; and the children of the spoilers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; and they shall fail.

 11:14 And in thoseº timesº there shall manyº stand upºº againstº the kingº of the south:º also the robbersºº of thy peopleº shall exaltºº themselvesº to establishºº the vision;º but they shall fall.ºº

 11:15 And the king of the north shall come in, and cast up a mound, and take strong cities: and the arms of the king of the south shall withstand, and his chosen ones shall rise up, but there shall be no strength to stand.

 11:15 So the kingº of the northº shall come,ºº and cast upºº a mount,º and takeºº the most fencedº cities:º and the armsº of the southº shall notº withstand,ºº neither his chosenº people,º neitherº [shall there be any] strengthº to withstand.ºº

 11:16 And he that comes in against him shall do according to his will, and there is no one to stand before him: and he shall stand in the land of beauty, and it shall be consumed by his hand.

 11:16 But he that comethºº againstº him shall doºº according to his own will,º and noneº shall standºº beforeº him: and he shall standºº in the gloriousº land,º which by his handº shall be consumed.ºº

 11:17 And he shall set his face to come in with the force of his whole kingdom, and shall cause everything to prosper with him: and he shall give him the daughter of women to corrupt her: but she shall not continue, neither be on his side.

 11:17 He shall also setºº his faceº to enterºº with the strengthº of his wholeº kingdom,º and upright onesº withº him; thus shall he do:ºº and he shall giveºº him the daughterº of women,º corruptingºº her: but she shall notº standºº [on his side], neitherº beº for him.

 11:18 And he shall turn his face to the islands, and shall take many, and cause princes to cease from their reproach: nevertheless his own reproach shall return to him.

 11:18 After this shall he turnººººº his faceº unto the isles,º and shall takeºº many:º but a princeº for his own behalf shall cause the reproachº offered by him to cease;ºº withoutº his own reproachº he shall cause [it] to turnºº upon him.

 11:19 Then he shall turn back his face to the strength of his own land: but he shall become weak, and fall, and not be found.

 11:19 Then he shall turnºº his faceº toward the fortº of his own land:º but he shall stumbleºº and fall,ºº and notº be found.ºº

 11:20 And there shall arise out of his root one that shall cause a plant of the kingdom to pass over his place, earning kingly glory: and yet in those days shall he be broken, yet not openly, nor in war.

 11:20 Then shall stand upºº inº his estateº a raiserºº of taxesºº [in] the gloryº of the kingdom:º but within fewº daysº he shall be destroyed,ºº neitherº in anger,º norº in battle.º

 11:21 [One] shall stand on his place, [who] has been set a nought, and they have not put upon him the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in prosperously, and obtain the kingdom by deceitful ways.

 11:21 And inº his estateº shall stand upºº a vile person,ºº toº whom they shall notº giveºº the honourº of the kingdom:º but he shall comeºº inº peaceably,º and obtainºº the kingdomº by flatteries.º

 11:22 And the arms of him that overflows shall be washed away as with a flood from before him, and shall be broken, and [so shall be] the head of the covenant.

 11:22 And with the armsº of a floodº shall they be overflownºº from beforeºº him, and shall be broken;ºº yea, alsoº the princeº of the covenant.º

 11:23 And because of the leagues made with him he shall work deceit: and he shall come up, and overpower them with a small nation.

 11:23 And afterº the leagueºº [made] withº him he shall workºº deceitfully:º for he shall come up,ºº and shall become strongºº with a smallº people.º

 11:24 And he shall enter with prosperity, and [that] into fertile districts; and he shall do what his fathers and his fathers' fathers have not done; he shall scatter among them plunder, and spoils, and wealth; and he shall devise plans against Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, even for a time.

 11:24 He shall enterºº peaceablyº even upon the fattest placesº of the province;º and he shall doºº [that] whichº his fathersº have notº done,ºº nor his fathers'º fathers;º he shall scatterºº among them the prey,º and spoil,º and riches:º [yea], and he shall forecastºº his devicesº againstº the strong holds,º even forº a time.º

 11:25 And his strength and his heart shall be stirred up against the king of the south with a great force; and the king of the south shall engage in war with a great and very strong force; but [his forces] shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him:

 11:25 And he shall stir upºº his powerº and his courageº againstº the kingº of the southº with a greatº army;º and the kingº of the southº shall be stirred upºº to battleº with a veryºº greatº and mightyº army;º but he shall notº stand:ºº forº they shall forecastºº devicesº againstº him.

 11:26 and they shall eat his provisions, and shall crush him, and he shall carry away armies as with a flood, and many shall fall down slain.

 11:26 Yea, they that feedºº of the portion of his meatº shall destroyºº him, and his armyº shall overflow:ºº and manyº shall fallºº downº slain.º

 11:27 And [as for] both the kings, their hearts [are set] upon mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper; for yet the end is for a [fixed] time.

 11:27 And bothº these kings'º heartsº [shall be] to do mischief,ººº and they shall speakºº liesº atº oneº table;º but it shall notº prosper:ºº forº yetº the endº [shall be] at the time appointed.º

 11:28 And he shall return to his land with much substance; and his heart [shall be] against the holy covenant; and he shall perform [great deeds], and return to his own land.

 11:28 Then shall he returnºº into his landº with greatº riches;º and his heartº [shall be] againstº the holyº covenant;º and he shall doºº [exploits], and returnºº to his own land.º

 11:29 At the [set] time he shall return, and shall come into the south, but the last [expedition] shall [not] be as the first.

 11:29 At the time appointedº he shall return,ºº and comeºº toward the south;º but it shall notº beº as the former,º or as the latter.º

 11:30 ¶ For the Citians issuing forth shall come against him, and he shall be brought low, and shall return, and shall be incensed against the holy covenant: and he shall do [thus], and shall return, and have intelligence with them that have forsaken the holy covenant.

 11:30 ¶ For the shipsº of Chittimº shall comeºº against him: therefore he shall be grieved,ºº and return,ºº and have indignationºº againstº the holyº covenant:º so shall he do;ºº he shall even return,ºº and have intelligenceºº withº them that forsakeºº the holyº covenant.º

 11:31 And seeds shall spring up out of him, and they shall profane the sanctuary of strength, and they shall remove the perpetual [sacrifice], and make the abomination desolate.

 11:31 And armsº shall standºº on his part,º and they shall polluteºº the sanctuaryº of strength,º and shall take awayºº the dailyº [sacrifice], and they shall placeºº the abominationº that maketh desolate.ºº

 11:32 And the transgressors shall bring about a covenant by deceitful ways: but a people knowing their God shall prevail, and do [valiantly].

 11:32 And such as do wickedlyºº againstº the covenantº shall he corruptºº by flatteries:º but the peopleº that do knowºº their Elohimº shall be strong,ºº and doºº [exploits].

 11:33 And the intelligent of the people shall understand much: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, and by captivity, and by spoil of [many] days.

 11:33 And they that understandºº among the peopleº shall instructºº many:º yet they shall fallºº by the sword,º and by flame,º by captivity,º and by spoil,º [many] days.º

 11:34 And when they are weak they shall be helped with a little help: but many shall attach themselves to them with treachery.

 11:34 Now when they shall fall,ºº they shall be holpenºº with a littleº help:º but manyº shall cleaveºº toº them with flatteries.º

 11:35 And [some] of them that understand shall fall, to try them as with fire, and to test [them], and that they may be manifested at the time of the end, for the matter [is] yet for a [set] time.

 11:35 And [some] ofº them of understandingºº shall fall,ºº to tryºº them, and to purge,ºº and to make [them] white,ºº [even] toº the timeº of the end:º becauseº [it is] yetº for a time appointed.º

 11:36 And he shall do according to his will, and the king shall exalt and magnify himself against every god, and shall speak great swelling words, and shall prosper until the indignation shall be accomplished: for it is coming to an end.

 11:36 And the kingº shall doºº according to his will;º and he shall exaltºº himself,º and magnifyºº himselfº aboveº everyº el,º and shall speakºº marvellous thingsºº againstº the Elº of elim,º and shall prosperºº tillº the indignationº be accomplished:ºº forº that that is determinedºº shall be done.ºº

 11:37 And he shall not regard any gods of his fathers, nor the desire of women, neither shall he regard any deity: for he shall magnify himself above all.

 11:37 Neither shall he regardºººº the Elohimº of his fathers,º nor the desireº of women,º nor regardºº anyººº eloah:º forº he shall magnifyºº himselfº aboveº all.º

 11:38 And he shall honour the god of forces on his place: and a god whom his fathers knew not he shall honour with gold, and silver, and precious stones, and desirable things.

 11:38 But inº his estateº shall he honourºº the Eloahº of forces:º and an eloahº whomº his fathersº knewºº notº shall he honourºº with gold,º and silver,º and with preciousº stones,º and pleasant things.ºº

 11:39 And he shall do [thus] in the strong places of refuge with a strange god, and shall increase his glory: and he shall subject many to them, and shall distribute the land in gifts.

 11:39 Thus shall he doºº in the most strongº holdsºº withº a strangeº eloah,º whomº he shall acknowledgeºººº [and] increaseºº with glory:º and he shall cause them to ruleºº over many,º and shall divideºº the landº for gain.º

 11:40 And at the end of the time he shall conflict with the king of the south: and the king of the north shall come against him with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and they shall enter into the land: and he shall break in pieces, and pass on:

 11:40 And at the timeº of the endº shall the kingº of the southº pushºº atº him: and the kingº of the northº shall come against him like a whirlwind,ººº with chariots,º and with horsemen,º and with manyº ships;º and he shall enterºº into the countries,º and shall overflowºº and pass over.ºº

 11:41 and he shall enter into the land of beauty, and many shall fail: but these shall escape out of his hand, Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

 11:41 He shall enterºº also into the gloriousº land,º and manyº [countries] shall be overthrown:ºº but theseº shall escapeºº out of his hand,ºº [even] Edom,º and Moab,º and the chiefº of the childrenº of Ammon.º

 11:42 And he shall stretch forth [his] hand over the land; and the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} shall not escape.

 11:42 He shall stretch forthºº his handº also upon the countries:º and the landº of Egyptº shall notº escape.ºº

 11:43 And he shall have the mastery over the secret [treasures] of gold and silver, and over all the desirable [possessions] of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}, and of the Libyans and Ethiopians in their strongholds.

 11:43 But he shall have powerºº over the treasuresº of goldº and of silver,º and over allº the preciousº thingsº of Egypt:º and the Libyansº and the Ethiopiansº [shall be] at his steps.º

 11:44 But rumors and anxieties out of the east and from the north shall trouble him; and he shall come with great wrath to destroy many.

 11:44 But tidingsº out of the eastºº and out of the northºº shall troubleºº him: therefore he shall go forthºº with greatº furyº to destroy,ºº and utterly to make awayºº many.º

 11:45 And he shall pitch the tabernacle of his palace between the seas in the holy mountain of beauty: [but] he shall come to his portion, and there is none to deliver him.

 11:45 And he shall plantºº the tabernaclesº of his palaceº betweenº the seasº in the gloriousº holyº mountain;º yet he shall comeºº toº his end,º and noneº shall helpºº him.
