 30:1 ¶
And it came to pass when David and his men had entered Ziklag{gr.Sekelac} on the third day, that Amalek{gr.Amalec} had made an incursion upon the south, and upon Ziklag{gr.Sekelac}, and smitten Ziklag{gr.Sekelac}, and burnt it with fire. |
|
 30:1 ¶
And it came to pass,º
when Davidº
and his menºº
were comeºº
to Ziklagº
on the thirdº
day,º
that the Amalekitesº
had invadedººº
the south,º
and Ziklag,º
and smittenººº
Ziklag,º
and burnedºº
it with fire;º |
 30:2
And as to the women and all things that were in it, great and small, they slew neither man nor woman, but carried them captives, and went on their way. |
 30:2
And had taken the womenº
captives,ºººº
thatº
[were] therein: they slewºº
notº
any,º
eitherº
greatº
or small,ºº
but carried [them] away,ºº
and wentººº
on their way.º |
 30:3 ¶
And David and his men came into the city, and, behold, it was burnt with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters were carried captive. |
 30:3 ¶
So Davidº
and his menºº
cameºº
toº
the city,º
and, behold,º
[it was] burnedºº
with fire;º
and their wives,º
and their sons,º
and their daughters,º
were taken captives.ºº |
 30:4
And David and his men lifted up their voice, and wept till there was no longer any power within them to weep. |
 30:4
Then Davidº
and the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him lifted upººº
their voiceº
and wept,ºº
untilºº
they had no moreº
powerº
to weep.ºº |
 30:5
And both the wives of David were carried captive, Achinaam, the Jezreelitess{gr.Jezraelitess}, and Abigail{gr.Abigaia} the wife of Nabal the Carmelite. |
 30:5
And David'sº
twoº
wivesº
were taken captives,ºº
Ahinoamº
the Jezreelitess,º
and Abigailº
the wifeº
of Nabalº
the Carmelite.º |
 30:6
And David was greatly distressed, because the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, each for his sons and his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. |
 30:6
And Davidº
was greatlyº
distressed;ºº
forº
the peopleº
spakeºº
of stoningºº
him, becauseº
the soulº
of allº
the peopleº
was grieved,ºº
every manº
forº
his sonsº
and forº
his daughters:º
but Davidº
encouragedºº
himselfº
in Yahwehº
his Elohim.º |
 30:7
And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Ahimelech{gr.Achimelech}, Bring near the ephod. |
 30:7
And Davidº
saidºº
toº
Abiatharº
the priest,º
Ahimelech'sº
son,º
I pray thee,º
bring me hitherºº
the ephod.º
And Abiatharº
broughtºº
thitherº
the ephodº
toº
David.º |
 30:8
And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? and he said to him, Pursue, for thou shalt surely overtake them, and thou shalt surely rescue [the captives]. |
 30:8
And Davidº
enquiredºº
at Yahweh,º
saying,ºº
Shall I pursueºº
afterº
thisº
troop?º
shall I overtakeºº
them? And he answeredºº
him, Pursue:ºº
forº
thou shalt surelyºº
overtakeºº
[them], and without failºº
recoverºº
[all]. |
 30:9
So David went, he an the six hundred men with him, an they come as far as the brook Bezer{gr.Bosor}, and the superfluous ones stopped. |
 30:9
So Davidº
went,ººº
heº
and the sixº
hundredº
menº
thatº
[were] withº
him, and cameºº
toº
the brookº
Besor,º
where those that were left behindºº
stayed.ºº |
 30:10
And he pursued them with four hundred men; and there remained behind two hundred men, who tarried on the other side of the brook Bezer{gr.Bosor}. |
 30:10
But Davidº
pursued,ºº
heº
and fourº
hundredº
men:º
for two hundredºº
abode behind,ºº
whichº
were so faintºº
that they could not go overºººº
the brookº
Besor.º |
 30:11 ¶
And they find a Mizraimite{gr.Egyptian} in the field, and they take him, and bring him to David; and they gave him bread and he ate, and they caused him to drink water. |
 30:11 ¶
And they foundºº
an Egyptianºº
in the field,º
and broughtºº
him toº
David,º
and gaveºº
him bread,º
and he did eat;ºº
and they made him drinkºº
water;º |
 30:12
And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and he ate, and his spirit was restored in him; for he had not eaten bread, and had not drunk water three days and three nights. |
 30:12
And they gaveºº
him a pieceº
of a cakeº
of figs,º
and twoº
clusters of raisins:º
and when he had eaten,ºº
his spiritº
came againºº
toº
him: forº
he had eatenºº
noº
bread,º
norº
drunkºº
[any] water,º
threeº
daysº
and threeº
nights.º |
 30:13
And David said to him, Whose art thou? and whence art thou? and the young man the Mizraimite{gr.Egyptian} said, I am the servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me, because I was taken ill three days ago. |
 30:13
And Davidº
saidºº
unto him, To whomº
[belongest] thou?º
and whenceººº
[art] thou?º
And he said,ºº
Iº
[am] a young manº
of Egypt,º
servantº
to an Amalekite;ºº
and my adonº
leftºº
me, becauseº
threeº
daysº
agone I fell sick.ºº |
 30:14
And we made an incursion on the south of the Chelethite, and on the parts of Judah{gr.Judea}, and on the south of Chelub, and we burnt Ziklag{gr.Sekelac} with fire. |
 30:14
Weº
made an invasionºº
[upon] the southº
of the Cherethites,º
and uponº
[the coast] whichº
[belongeth] to Judah,º
and uponº
the southº
of Caleb;º
and we burnedºº
Ziklagº
with fire.º |
 30:15
And David said to him, Wilt thou bring me down to this troop? And he said, Swear now to me by God, that thou wilt not kill me, and that thou wilt not deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down upon this troop. |
 30:15
And Davidº
saidºº
toº
him, Canst thou bring me downºº
toº
thisº
company?º
And he said,ºº
Swearºº
unto me by Elohim,º
that thou wilt neitherº
killºº
me, norº
deliverºº
me into the handsº
of my adon,º
and I will bring thee downºº
toº
thisº
company.º |
 30:16 ¶
So be brought him down thither, and behold, they [were] scattered abroad upon the surface of the whole land, eating and drinking, and feasting by [reason of] all the great spoils which they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah{gr.Juda}. |
 30:16 ¶
And when he had brought him down,ºº
behold,º
[they were] spread abroadºº
uponºº
allºº
the earth,º
eatingºº
and drinking,ºº
and dancing,ºº
because of allº
the greatº
spoilº
thatº
they had takenºº
out of the landºº
of the Philistines,º
and out of the landºº
of Judah.º |
 30:17
And David came upon them, and smote them from the morning till the evening, and on the next day; and not one of them escaped, except four hundred young men, who were mounted on camels, and fled. |
 30:17
And Davidº
smoteºº
them from the twilightºº
even untoº
the eveningº
of the next day:º
and there escapedºº
notº
a manº
of them, saveºº
fourº
hundredº
youngº
men,º
whichº
rodeºº
uponº
camels,º
and fled.ºº |
 30:18
And David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued both his wives. |
 30:18
And Davidº
recoveredººº
allº
thatº
the Amalekitesº
had carried away:ºº
and Davidº
rescuedºº
his twoº
wives.º |
 30:19
And nothing was wanting to them of great or small, either of the spoils, or the sons and daughters, or anything that they had taken of theirs; and David recovered all. |
 30:19
And there was nothingº
lackingºº
to them, neitherº
smallº
norº
great,º
neitherº
sonsº
nor daughters,º
neither spoil,ºº
norº
anyº
[thing] thatº
they had takenºº
to them: Davidº
recoveredºº
all.º |
 30:20
And he took all the flocks, and the herds, and led them away before the spoils: and it was said of these spoils, These [are] the spoils of David. |
 30:20
And Davidº
tookººº
allº
the flocksº
and the herds,º
[which] they draveºº
beforeº
thoseº
[other] cattle,º
and said,ºº
Thisº
[is] David'sº
spoil.º |
 30:21 ¶
And David comes to the two hundred men who were left behind that they should not follow after David, and he had caused them to remain by the brook of Bezer{gr.Bosor}; and they came forth to meet David, and to meet his people with him: and David drew near to the people, and they asked him how he did. |
 30:21 ¶
And Davidº
cameºº
toº
the two hundredº
men,ºº
whichº
were so faintºº
that they could not followºººº
David,º
whom they had made also to abideºº
at the brookº
Besor:º
and they went forthºº
to meetºº
David,º
and to meetºº
the peopleº
thatº
[were] withº
him: and when Davidº
came nearºº
toº
the people,º
he salutedººº
them. |
 30:22
Then every ill-disposed and bad man of the soldiers who had gone with David, answered and said, Because they did not pursue together with us, we will not give them of the spoils which we have recovered, only let each one lead away with him his wife and his children, and let them return. |
 30:22
Then answeredºº
allº
the wickedº
menº
and [men] of Belial,º
of thoseººº
thatº
wentºº
withº
David,º
and said,ºº
Becauseºº
they wentºº
notº
withº
us, we will notº
giveºº
them [ought] of the spoilºº
thatº
we have recovered,ºº
saveºº
to every manºº
his wifeº
and his children,º
that they may lead [them] away,ºº
and depart.ººº |
 30:23
And David said, Ye shall not do so, after the Lord has delivered [the enemy] to us, and guarded us, and the Lord has delivered into our hands the troop that came against u. |
 30:23
Then saidºº
David,º
Ye shall notº
doº
so,ººº
my brethren,º
withº
that whichº
Yahwehº
hath givenºº
us, who hath preservedºº
us, and deliveredººº
the companyº
that cameºº
againstº
us into our hand.º |
 30:24
And who will hearken to these your words? for they are not inferior to us; for according to the portion of him that went down to the battle, so shall be the portion of him that abides with the baggage; they shall share alike. |
 30:24
For whoº
will hearkenºº
unto you in thisº
matter?º
butº
as his partº
[is] that goeth downºººº
to the battle,º
so [shall] his partº
[be] that tarriethºº
byº
the stuff:º
they shall partºº
alike.º |
 30:25
And it came to pass from that day forward, that it became an ordinance and a custom in Israel until this day. |
 30:25
And it wasº
[so] from that dayººº
forward,º
that he madeºº
it a statuteº
and an ordinanceº
for Israelº
untoº
thisº
day.º |
 30:26 ¶
And David came to Ziklag{gr.Sekelac}, and sent of the spoils to the elders of Judah{gr.Juda}, and to his friends, saying, Behold [some] of the spoils of the enemies of the Lord; |
 30:26 ¶
And when Davidº
cameºº
toº
Ziklag,º
he sentºº
of the spoilºº
unto the eldersº
of Judah,º
[even] to his friends,º
saying,ºº
Beholdº
a presentº
for you of the spoilºº
of the enemiesºº
of Yahweh;º |
 30:27
to those in Baethsur, and to those in Ramah{gr.Rama} of the south, and to those in Gethor. |
 30:27
To [them]º
whichº
[were] in Bethel,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in southº
Ramoth,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in Jattir,º |
 30:28
And to those in Aroer, and to those in Ammadi, and to those in Saphi, and to those in Esthie, and to those in Gath{gr.Geth}, and to those in Cimath, and to those in Saphec, and to those in Themath, |
 30:28
And to [them] whichº
[were] in Aroer,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in Siphmoth,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in Eshtemoa,º |
 30:29
and to those in Carmel, and to those in the cities of Jerahmeel{gr.Jeremeel}, and to those in the cities of the Kenezite; |
 30:29
And to [them] whichº
[were] in Rachal,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in the citiesº
of the Jerahmeelites,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in the citiesº
of the Kenites,º |
 30:30
and to those in Jerimuth, and to those in Beersheba{gr.Bersabee}, and to those in Nombe, |
 30:30
And to [them] whichº
[were] in Hormah,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in Chorashan,º
and to [them] whichº
[were] in Athach,º |
 30:31
and to those in Hebron{gr.Chebron}, and to all the places which David and his men had passed through. |
 30:31
And to [them] whichº
[were] in Hebron,º
and to allº
the placesº
whereºº
Davidº
himselfº
and his menºº
were wont to haunt.ºº |
