 11:1 ¶
And it came to pass about a month after this, that Nahash{gr.Naas} the Ammonite{gr.Ammanite} went up, and encamped against Jabesh{gr.Jabis} Gilead{gr.Galaad}: and all the men of Jabesh{gr.Jabis} said to Nahash{gr.Naas} the Ammonite{gr.Ammanite}, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee. |
|
 11:1 ¶
Then Nahashº
the Ammoniteº
came up,ºº
and encampedºº
againstº
Jabeshgilead:ºº
and allº
the menºº
of Jabeshº
saidºº
untoº
Nahash,º
Makeºº
a covenantº
with us, and we will serveºº
thee. |
 11:2
Nahash{gr.Naas} the Ammonite{gr.Ammanite} said to them, On these terms will I make a covenant with you, that I should put out all your right eyes, and I will lay a reproach upon Israel. |
|
 11:2
And Nahashº
the Ammoniteº
answeredººº
them, On thisº
[condition] will I makeºº
[a covenant] with you, that I may thrust outºº
allº
your rightº
eyes,º
and layºº
it [for] a reproachº
uponº
allº
Israel.º |
 11:3
And the men of Jabesh{gr.Jabis} say to him, Allow us seven days, and we will send messengers into all the coasts of Israel: if there should be no one to deliver us, we will come out to you. |
|
 11:3
And the eldersº
of Jabeshº
saidºº
untoº
him, Give us sevenº
days'º
respite,ºº
that we may sendºº
messengersº
unto allº
the coastsº
of Israel:º
and then, ifº
[there be] no manº
to saveºº
us, we will come outºº
toº
thee. |
 11:4 ¶
And the messengers came to Gibeah{gr.Gabaa} to Saul, and they speak the words into the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept. |
|
 11:4 ¶
Then cameºº
the messengersº
to Gibeahº
of Saul,º
and toldºº
the tidingsº
in the earsº
of the people:º
and allº
the peopleº
lifted upººº
their voices,º
and wept.ºº |
 11:5
And, behold, Saul came after the early morning out of the field: and Saul said, Why does the people weep? and they tell him the words of the men of Jabesh{gr.Jabis}. |
|
 11:5
And, behold,º
Saulº
cameºº
afterº
the herdº
out ofº
the field;º
and Saulº
said,ºº
Whatº
[aileth] the peopleº
thatº
they weep?ºº
And they toldºº
himº
the tidingsº
of the menºº
of Jabesh.º |
 11:6
And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled against them. |
|
 11:6
And the Spiritº
of Elohimº
cameºº
uponº
Saulº
when he heardººº
thoseº
tidings,º
and his angerº
was kindledºº
greatly.º |
 11:7
And he took two cows, and cut them in pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoso comes not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall they do to his oxen: and a transport from the Lord came upon the people of Israel, and they came out to battle as one man. |
|
 11:7
And he tookºº
a yokeº
of oxen,º
and hewed them in pieces,ºº
and sentºº
[them] throughout allº
the coastsº
of Israelº
by the handsº
of messengers,º
saying,ºº
Whosoeverº
cometh not forthººº
afterº
Saulº
and afterº
Samuel,º
soº
shall it be doneºº
unto his oxen.º
And the fearº
of Yahwehº
fellºº
onº
the people,º
and they came outºº
with oneº
consent.º |
 11:8
And he reviews them at Bezec in Bama, every man of Israel six hundred thousand, and the men of Judah{gr.Juda} seventy thousand. |
|
 11:8
And when he numberedºº
them in Bezek,º
the childrenº
of Israelº
wereº
threeº
hundredº
thousand,º
and the menº
of Judahº
thirtyº
thousand.º |
 11:9
And he said to the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say to the men of Jabesh{gr.Jabis}, To-morrow ye shall have deliverance when the sun is hot; and the messengers came to the city, and told the men of Jabesh{gr.Jabis}, and they rejoiced. |
|
 11:9
And they saidºº
unto the messengersº
that came,ºº
Thusº
shall ye sayºº
unto the menº
of Jabeshgilead,ºº
To morrow,º
by [that time] the sunº
be hot,º
ye shall haveº
help.º

|
 11:10
Therefore the menºº
of Jabeshº
said,ºº
To morrowº
we will come outºº
untoº
you, and ye shall doºº
with us allº
that seemethº
goodº
unto you. |
 11:11
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Saul divided the people into three companies, and they go into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and they smote the children of Ammon until the day was hot; at it came to pass that those who were left were scattered, and there were not left among them two together. |

and they cameºº
into the midstº
of the hostº
in the morningº
watch,º
and slewººº
the Ammonitesº
untilº
the heatº
of the day:º
and it came to pass,º
that they which remainedºº
were scattered,ºº
so that twoº
of them were notº
leftºº
together.º |
 11:12 ¶
And the people said to Samuel, Who has said that Saul shall not reign over us? Give up the men, and we will put them to death. |
|
 11:12 ¶
And the peopleº
saidºº
untoº
Samuel,º
Whoº
[is] he that said,ºº
Shall Saulº
reignºº
overº
us? bringºº
the men,ºº
that we may put them to death.ºº |
 11:13
And Saul said, No man shall die this day, for to-day the Lord has wrought deliverance in Israel. |
|
 11:13
And Saulº
said,ºº
There shall notº
a manº
be put to deathºº
thisº
day:º
forº
to dayº
Yahwehº
hath wroughtºº
salvationº
in Israel.º |
 11:14
And Samuel spoke to the people, saying, Let us go to Gilgal{gr.Galgala}, and there renew the kingdom. |
|
 11:14
Then saidºº
Samuelº
toº
the people,º
Come,ººº
and let us goººº
to Gilgal,º
and renewºº
the kingdomº
there.º |
 11:15
And all the people went to Gilgal{gr.Galgala}, and Samuel anointed Saul there to be king before the Lord in Gilgal{gr.Galgala}, and there he offered meat-offerings and peace-offerings before the Lord: and Samuel and all Israel rejoiced exceedingly. |
|
 11:15
And allº
the peopleº
wentººº
to Gilgal;º
and thereº
they made Saulº
kingºººº
beforeº
Yahwehº
in Gilgal;º
and thereº
they sacrificedºº
sacrificesº
of peace offeringsº
beforeº
Yahweh;º
and thereº
Saulº
and allº
the menºº
of Israelº
rejoicedºº
greatly.º |
