1 Corinthians 8

1 To abstain from meats offered to idols. 8, 9 We must not abuse our Christian liberty, to the offence of our brethren: 11 but must bridle our knowledge with charity.

 8:1 Now 1161 concerning 4012 things 1494 sacrificed 1494 to idols 1494, we know 3609a that we all 3956 have 2192 knowledge 1108. Knowledge 1108 makes 5448 arrogant 5448, but love 26 edifies 3618.

 8:2 If 1487 anyone 5100 supposes 1380 that he knows 1097 anything 5100, he has not yet 3768 known 1097 as he ought 1163 to know 1097;

 8:3 but if 1487 anyone 5100 loves 25 God 2316, he is known 1097 by Him.

 8:4 ¶ Therefore 3767 concerning 4012 the eating 1035 of things 1494 sacrificed 1494 to idols 1494, we know 3609a that there is no 3762 such thing 3762 as an idol 1497 in the world 2889, and that there is no 3762 God 2316 but one 1520.

 8:5 For even 2532 if 1512 there are so-called 3004 gods 2316 whether 1535a in heaven 3772 or 1535a on earth 1093, as indeed 5618 there are many 4183 gods 2316 and many 4183 lords 2962,

 8:6 yet 235 for us there is [but] one 1520 God 2316, the Father 3962, from whom 3739 are all 3956 things 3956 and we [exist] for Him; and one 1520 Lord 2962, Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, by whom 3739 are all 3956 things 3956, and we [exist] through 1223 Him.

 8:7 ¶ However 235 not all 3956 men 3956 have this 3588 knowledge 1108; but some 5100, being accustomed 4914 to the idol 1497 until 2193 now 737, eat 2068 [food] as if 5613 it were sacrificed 1494 to an idol 1494; and their conscience 4893 being 1510 weak 772 is defiled 3435.

 8:8 But food 1033 will not commend 3936 us to God 2316; we are neither 3777 the worse 5302 if 1437 we do not eat 2068, nor 3777 the better 4052 if 1437 we do eat 2068.

 8:9 But take 991 care 991 that this 3778 liberty 1849 of yours 4771 does not somehow 4458 become 1096 a stumbling 4348 block 4348 to the weak 772.

 8:10 For if 1437 someone 5100 sees 3708 you, who have 2192 knowledge 1108, dining 2621 in an idol’s 1493 temple 1493, will not his conscience 4893, if he is weak 772, be strengthened 3618 to eat 2068 things 1494 sacrificed 1494 to idols 1494?

 8:11 For through 1722 your knowledge 1108 he who is weak 770 is ruined 622, the brother 80 for whose 3739 sake 1223 Christ 5547 died 599.

 8:12 And so 3779, by sinning 264 against 1519 the brethren 80 and wounding 5180 their conscience 4893 when it is weak 770, you sin 264 against 1519 Christ 5547.

 8:13 Therefore 1355, if 1487 food 1033 causes 4624 my brother 80 to stumble 4624, I will never 3756 3361 eat 2068 meat 2907 again, so 2443 that I will not cause 4624 my brother 80 to stumble 4624.
