1 Corinthians 11
1 He reproveth them, because in holy assemblies, 4 their men prayed with their heads covered, and 6 women with their heads uncovered, 17 and because generally their meetings were not for the better, but for the worse, as 21 namely in profaning with their own feasts the Lord's supper. 23 Lastly, he calleth them to the first institution thereof.
11:1
Be imitators 3402 of me, just 2531a as I also 2532 am of Christ 5547.
11:2
¶ Now 1161 I praise 1867 you because 3754 you remember 3403 me in everything 3956 and hold 2722 firmly 2722 to the traditions 3862, just 2531a as I delivered 3860 them to you.
11:3
But I want 2309 you to understand 3609a that Christ 5547 is the head 2776 of every 3956 man 435, and the man 435 is the head 2776 of a woman 1135, and God 2316 is the head 2776 of Christ 5547.
11:4
Every 3956 man 435 who has 2192 [something] on his head 2776 while praying 4336 or 2228 prophesying 4395 disgraces 2617b his head 2776.
11:5
But every 3956 woman 1135 who has her head 2776 uncovered 177 while praying 4336 or 2228 prophesying 4395 disgraces 2617b her head 2776, for she is one 1520 and the same 846 as the woman 1135 whose head is shaved 3587b.
11:6
For if 1487 a woman 1135 does not cover 2619 her head, let her also 2532 have her hair 2751 cut 2751 off 2751; but if 1487 it is disgraceful 150 for a woman 1135 to have her hair 2751 cut 2751 off 2751 or 2228 her head shaved 3587a, let her cover 2619 her head.
11:7
For a man 435 ought 3784 not to have his head 2776 covered 2619, since he is the image 1504 and glory 1391 of God 2316; but the woman 1135 is the glory 1391 of man 435.
11:8
For man 435 does not originate 1510 from woman 1135, but woman 1135 from man 435;
11:9
for indeed 2532 man 435 was not created 2936 for the woman’s 1135 sake 1223, but woman 1135 for the man’s 435 sake 1223.
11:10
Therefore 1223 3778 the woman 1135 ought 3784 to have 2192 [a symbol of] authority 1849 on her head 2776, because 1223 of the angels 32a.
11:11
However 4133, in the Lord 2962, neither 3777 is woman 1135 independent 5565 of man 435, nor 3777 is man 435 independent 5565 of woman 1135.
11:12
For as the woman 1135 originates from the man 435, so 3779 also 2532 the man 435 [has his birth] through 1223 the woman 1135; and all 3956 things 3956 originate from God 2316.
11:13
Judge 2919 for yourselves 4771 846: is it proper 4241 for a woman 1135 to pray 4336 to God 2316 [with her head] uncovered 177?
11:14
Does not even 3761 nature 5449 itself 846 teach 1321 you that if 1437 a man 435 has 2863 long 2863 hair 2863, it is a dishonor 819 to him,
11:15
but if 1437 a woman 1135 has 2863 long 2863 hair 2863, it is a glory 1391 to her? For her hair 2864 is given 1325 to her for a covering 4018.
11:16
But if 1487 one 5100 is inclined 1380 to be contentious 5380, we have 2192 no 3756 other 5108 practice 4914, nor 3761 have the churches 1577 of God 2316.
11:17
¶ But in giving 3853 this 3778 instruction 3853, I do not praise 1867 you, because 3754 you come 4905 together 4905 not for the better 2909 but for the worse 2269b.
11:18
For, in the first 4413 place, when you come 4905 together 4905 as a church 1577, I hear 191 that divisions 4978 exist 5225 among 1722 you; and in part 3313 I believe 4100 it.
11:19
For there must 1163 also 2532 be factions 139 among 1722 you, so 2443 that those 3588 who are approved 1384 may become 1096 evident 5318 among 1722 you.
11:20
Therefore 3767 when you meet 4905 together 1909 3588 846, it is not to eat 2068 the Lord’s 2960 Supper 1173,
11:21
for in your eating 2068 each 1538 one 1538 takes 4301 his own 2398 supper 1173 first 4301; and one 3739 3303a is hungry 3983 and another 3739 1161 is drunk 3184.
11:22
What 1063! Do you not have 2192 houses 3614 in which to eat 2068 and drink 4095? Or 2228 do you despise 2706 the church 1577 of God 2316 and shame 2617b those 3588 who have 2192 nothing 3361? What 5101 shall I say 3004 to you? Shall I praise 1867 you? In this 3778 I will not praise 1867 you.
11:23
¶ For I received 3880 from the Lord 2962 that which 3739 I also 2532 delivered 3860 to you, that the Lord 2962 Jesus 2424 in the night 3571 in which 3739 He was betrayed 3860 took 2983 bread 740;
11:24
and when He had given 2168 thanks 2168, He broke 2806 it and said 3004, “This 3778 is My body 4983, which is for you; do 4160 this 3778 in remembrance 364 of Me.”
11:25
In the same 5615 way 5615 [He took] the cup 4221 also 2532 after 3326 supper 1172, saying 3004, “This 3778 cup 4221 is the new 2537 covenant 1242 in My blood 129; do 4160 this 3778, as often 3740 as you drink 4095 [it], in remembrance 364 of Me.”
11:26
For as often 3740 as you eat 2068 this 3778 bread 740 and drink 4095 the cup 4221, you proclaim 2605 the Lord’s 2962 death 2288 until 891 He comes 2064.
11:27
¶ Therefore 5620 whoever 3739 302 eats 2068 the bread 740 or 2228 drinks 4095 the cup 4221 of the Lord 2962 in an unworthy 371 manner 371, shall be guilty 1777 of the body 4983 and the blood 129 of the Lord 2962.
11:28
But a man 444 must examine 1381a himself 1438, and in so 3779 doing he is to eat 2068 of the bread 740 and drink 4095 of the cup 4221.
11:29
For he who eats 2068 and drinks 4095, eats 2068 and drinks 4095 judgment 2917 to himself 1438 if he does not judge 1252 the body 4983 rightly.
11:30
For this 3778 reason 1223 many 4183 among 1722 you are weak 772 and sick 732, and a number 2425 sleep 2837.
11:31
But if 1487 we judged 1252 ourselves 1438 rightly, we would not be judged 2919.
11:32
But when we are judged 2919, we are disciplined 3811 by the Lord 2962 so 2443 that we will not be condemned 2632 along 4862 with the world 2889.
11:33
¶ So 5620 then 5620, my brethren 80, when you come 4905 together 4905 to eat 2068, wait 1551 for one 240 another 240.
11:34
If 1487 anyone 5100 is hungry 3983, let him eat 2068 at home 3624, so 2443 that you will not come 4905 together 4905 for judgment 2917. The remaining 3062 matters I will arrange 1299 when 5613 I come 2064.
