the Shuhite,º

How long wilt thou continue? forbear, that we also may speak. |

[will it be ere] ye makeºº
an endº
of words?º
mark,ºº
and afterwardsº
we will speak.ºº |

18:3
For wherefore have we been silent before thee like brutes? |
18:3
Whereforeº
are we countedºº
as beasts,º
[and] reputed vileºº
in your sight?º |
|
18:4
Anger has possessed thee: for what if thou shouldest die; would [the earth] under heaven be desolate? or shall the mountains be overthrown from their foundations? |
18:4
He tearethºº
himselfº
in his anger:º
shall the earthº
be forsakenºº
forº
thee? and shall the rockº
be removedºº
out of his place?ºº |

18:5
But the light of the ungodly shall be quenched, and their flame shall not go up. |
18:5
Yea,º
the lightº
of the wickedº
shall be put out,ºº
and the sparkº
of his fireº
shall notº
shine.ºº |

18:6
His light [shall be] darkness in [his] habitation, and his lamp shall be put out with him. |
18:6
The lightº
shall be darkºº
in his tabernacle,º
and his candleº
shall be put outºº
withº
him. |
|
18:7
Let the meanest of men spoil his goods, and let his counsel deceive [him]. |
18:7
The stepsº
of his strengthº
shall be straitened,ºº
and his own counselº
shall cast him down.ºº |
|
18:8
His foot also has been caught in a snare, [and] let it be entangled in a net. |
18:8
Forº
he is castºº
into a netº
by his own feet,º
and he walkethºº
uponº
a snare.º |
|
18:9
And let snares come upon him: he shall strengthen those that thirst for his destruction. |
18:9
The ginº
shall takeºº
[him] by the heel,º
[and] the robberº
shall prevailºº
againstº
him. |
|
18:10
His snare is hid in the earth, and that which shall take him is by the path. |
18:10
The snareº
[is] laidºº
for him in the ground,º
and a trapº
for him inº
the way.º |

18:11
Let pains destroy him round about, and let many [enemies] come about him, |
18:11
Terrorsº
shall make him afraidºº
on every side,º
and shall driveºº
him to his feet.º |
|
18:12
[vex him] with distressing hunger: and a signal destruction has been prepared for him. |
18:12
His strengthº
shall beº
hungerbitten,º
and destructionº
[shall be] readyºº
at his side.º |
|
18:13
Let the soles of his feet be devoured: and death shall consume his beauty. |
18:13
It shall devourºº
the strengthº
of his skin:º
[even] the firstbornº
of deathº
shall devourºº
his strength.º |
|
18:14
And let health be utterly banished from his tabernacle, and let distress seize upon him with a charge from the king. |
18:14
His confidenceº
shall be rooted outºº
of his tabernacle,ºº
and it shall bringºº
him to the kingº
of terrors.º |

18:15
It shall dwell in his tabernacle in his night: his excellency shall be sown with brimstone. |
18:15
It shall dwellºº
in his tabernacle,º
because [it is] noneºº
of his: brimstoneº
shall be scatteredºº
uponº
his habitation.º |

18:16
His roots shall be dried up from beneath, and his crop shall fall away from above. |
18:16
His rootsº
shall be dried upºº
beneath,ºº
and aboveºº
shall his branchº
be cut off.ºº |

18:17
Let his memorial perish out of the earth, and his name shall be publicly cast out. |
18:17
His remembranceº
shall perishºº
fromº
the earth,º
and he shall have noº
nameº
inº
the street.ºº |
|
18:18
Let [one] drive him from light into darkness. |
18:18
He shall be drivenºº
from lightºº
intoº
darkness,º
and chasedºº
out of the world.ºº |
|
18:19
He shall not be known among his people, nor his house preserved on the earth. |
18:19
He shall neitherº
have sonº
norº
nephewº
among his people,º
norº
any remainingº
in his dwellings.º |
|
18:20
But strangers shall dwell in his possessions: the last groaned for him, and wonder seized the first. |
18:20
They that come afterº
[him] shall be astoniedºº
atº
his day,º
as they that went beforeº
were affrighted.ººº |
|
18:21
These are the houses of the unrighteous, and this is the place of them that know not the Lord. |
18:21
Surelyº
suchº
[are] the dwellingsº
of the wicked,º
and thisº
[is] the placeº
[of him that] knowethºº
notº
