 21:1 ¶ And Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite} had a vineyard, near the threshingfloor of Ahab{gr.Achaab} king of Samaria.

 21:1 ¶ And it came to pass° after° these° things,° [that] Naboth° the Jezreelite° had° a vineyard,° which° [was] in Jezreel,° hard° by° the palace° of Ahab° king° of Samaria.°

 21:2 And Ahab{gr.Achaab} spoke to Naboth{gr.Nabuthai}, saying, Give me thy vineyard, and I will have it for a garden of herbs, for it [is] near my house: and I will give thee another vineyard better than it; or if it please thee, I will give thee money, the price of this thy vineyard, and I will have it for a garden of herbs.

 21:2 And Ahab° spake°° unto° Naboth,° saying,°° Give°° me° thy vineyard,° that I may have° it for a garden° of herbs,° because° it° [is] near° unto°° my house:° and I will give°° thee for° it a better° vineyard° than° it; [or], if° it seem good° to thee,°° I will give°° thee the worth° of it° in money.°

 21:3 And Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} said to Ahab{gr.Achaab}, My God forbid me that I should give thee the inheritance of my fathers.

 21:3 And Naboth° said°° to° Ahab,° Yahweh°° forbid° it me, that I should give°°°° the inheritance° of my fathers° unto thee.

 21:4 And the spirit of Ahab{gr.Achaab} was troubled, and he lay down upon his bed, and covered his face, and ate no bread.

 21:4 And Ahab° came°° into° his house° heavy° and displeased° because° of the word° which° Naboth° the Jezreelite° had spoken°° to° him: for he had said,°° I will not° give°° thee° the inheritance° of my fathers.° And he laid him down°° upon° his bed,° and turned away°°° his face,° and would eat°° no° bread.°

 21:5 ¶ And Jezebel{gr.Jezabel} his wife went in to him, and spoke to him, [saying], Why [is] thy spirit troubled, and [why] dost thou eat no bread?

 21:5 ¶ But Jezebel° his wife° came°° to° him, and said°° unto° him, Why°° is thy spirit° so sad,° that thou eatest°° no° bread?°

 21:6 And he said to her, Because I spoke to Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite}, saying, Give me thy vineyard for money; or if thou wilt, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers.

 21:6 And he said°° unto° her, Because° I spake°° unto° Naboth° the Jezreelite,° and said°° unto him, Give°° me° thy vineyard° for money;° or° else, if° it please°° thee,° I will give°° thee [another] vineyard° for° it: and he answered,°° I will not° give°° thee° my vineyard.°

 21:7 And Jezebel{gr.Jezabel} his wife said to him, Dost thou now thus act the king over Israel? arise, and eat bread, and be thine own [master], and I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite}.

 21:7 And Jezebel° his wife° said°° unto° him, Dost thou° now° govern°°° the kingdom° of Israel?° arise,°° [and] eat°° bread,° and let thine heart° be merry:°° I° will give°° thee° the vineyard° of Naboth° the Jezreelite.°

 21:8 And she wrote a letter in the name of Ahab{gr.Achaab}, and sealed it with his seal, and sent the letter to the elders, and to the freemen who dwelt with Naboth{gr.Nabuthai}.

 21:8 So she wrote°° letters° in Ahab's° name,° and sealed°° [them] with his seal,° and sent°° the letters° unto° the elders° and to° the nobles° that° [were] in his city,° dwelling°° with° Naboth.°

 21:9 And it was written in the letters, saying, Keep a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people.

 21:9 And she wrote°° in the letters,° saying,°° Proclaim°° a fast,° and set°°° Naboth° on high° among the people:°

 21:10 And set two men, sons of transgressors, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, He blessed God and the king: and let them lead him forth, and stone him, and let them die.

 21:10 And set°° two° men,°° sons° of Belial,° before° him, to bear witness°° against° him, saying,°° Thou didst blaspheme°° Elohim° and the king.° And [then] carry him out,°° and stone°° him, that he may die.°°

 21:11 And the men of his city, the elders, and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel{gr.Jezabel} sent to them, and as it had been written in the letters which she sent to them.

 21:11 And the men°° of his city,° [even] the elders° and the nobles° who° were the inhabitants°° in his city,° did°° as° Jezebel° had sent°° unto° them, [and] as° it [was] written°° in the letters° which° she had sent°° unto° them.

 21:12 And they proclaimed a fast, and set Nebuthai in a chief place among the people.

 21:12 They proclaimed°° a fast,° and set°°° Naboth° on high° among the people.°

 21:13 And two men, sons of transgressors, came in, and sat opposite him, and bore witness against him, saying, Thou hast blessed God and the king. And they led him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, and he died.

 21:13 And there came°° in° two° men,°° children° of Belial,° and sat°° before° him: and the men°° of Belial° witnessed°° against° him, [even] against° Naboth,° in the presence° of the people,° saying,°° Naboth° did blaspheme°° Elohim° and the king.° Then they carried him forth°° out° of°° the city,° and stoned°° him with stones,° that he died.°°

 21:14 And they sent to Jezebel{gr.Jezabel}, saying, Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} is stoned, and is dead.

 21:14 Then they sent°° to° Jezebel,° saying,°° Naboth° is stoned,°° and is dead.°°

 21:15 ¶ And it came to pass, when Jezebel{gr.Jezabel} heard [it], that she said to Ahab{gr.Achaab}, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite}, who would not sell it to thee: for Nebuthai is not alive, for he is dead.

 21:15 ¶ And it came to pass,° when Jezebel° heard°° that° Naboth° was stoned,°° and was dead,°° that Jezebel° said°° to° Ahab,° Arise,°° take possession°° of° the vineyard° of Naboth° the Jezreelite,° which° he refused°° to give°° thee for money:° for° Naboth° is not° alive,° but° dead.°°

 21:16 And it came to pass, when Ahab{gr.Achaab} heard that Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite} was dead, that he rent his garments, and put on sackcloth. And it came to pass afterward, that Ahab{gr.Achaab} arose and went down to the vineyard of Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite}, to take possession of it.

 21:16 And it came to pass,° when Ahab° heard°° that° Naboth° was dead,°° that Ahab° rose up°° to go down°° to° the vineyard° of Naboth° the Jezreelite,° to take possession°° of it.

 21:17 ¶ And the Lord spoke to Elijah{gr.Eliu} the Tishbite{gr.Thesbite}, saying,

 21:17 ¶ And the word° of Yahweh° came° to° Elijah° the Tishbite,° saying,°°

 21:18 Arise, and go down to meet Ahab{gr.Achaab} king of Israel, who is in Samaria, for he [is] in the vineyard of Naboth{gr.Nabuthai}, for he has gone down thither to take possession of it.

 21:18 Arise,°° go down°° to meet°°° Ahab° king° of Israel,° which° [is] in Samaria:° behold,° [he is] in the vineyard° of Naboth,° whither°° he is gone down°° to possess°° it.

 21:19 And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Forasmuch as thou hast slain and taken possession, therefore thus saith the Lord, In every place where the swine and the dogs have licked the blood of Naboth{gr.Nabuthai}, there shall the dogs lick thy blood; and the harlots shall wash themselves in thy blood.

 21:19 And thou shalt speak°° unto° him, saying,°° Thus° saith°° Yahweh,° Hast thou killed,°° and also° taken possession?°° And thou shalt speak°° unto° him, saying,°° Thus° saith°° Yahweh,° In the place° where° dogs° licked°°° the blood° of Naboth° shall dogs° lick°°° thy blood,° even° thine.°

 21:20 And Ahab{gr.Achaab} said to Elijah{gr.Eliu}, Hast thou found me, mine enemy? and he said, I have found [thee]: because thou hast wickedly sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger;

 21:20 And Ahab° said°° to° Elijah,° Hast thou found°° me, O mine enemy?°° And he answered,°° I have found°° [thee]: because° thou hast sold°° thyself to work°° evil° in the sight° of Yahweh.°

 21:21 behold, I bring evil upon thee: and I will kindle a fire after thee, and I will utterly destroy every male of Ahab{gr.Achaab}, and him that is shut up and him that is left in Israel.

 21:21 Behold,° I will bring°° evil° upon° thee, and will take away°° thy posterity,° and will cut off°° from Ahab° him that pisseth°° against the wall,° and him that is shut up°° and left°° in Israel,°

 21:22 And I will make thy house as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat{gr.Nabat}, and as the house of Baasha{gr.Baasa} son of Ahijah{gr.Achia}, because of the provocations wherewith thou hast provoked [me], and caused Israel to sin.

 21:22 And will make°°° thine house° like the house° of Jeroboam° the son° of Nebat,° and like the house° of Baasha° the son° of Ahijah,° for° the provocation° wherewith° thou hast provoked [me] to anger,°° and made Israel° to sin.°°°°

 21:23 And the Lord spoke of Jezebel{gr.Jezabel}, saying, The dogs shall devour her within the fortification of Jezreel{gr.Jezrael}.

 21:23 And of Jezebel° also° spake°° Yahweh,° saying,°° The dogs° shall eat°°° Jezebel° by the wall° of Jezreel.°

 21:24 Him that is dead of Ahab{gr.Achaab} in the city shall the dogs eat, and him that is dead of him in the field shall the birds of the sky eat.

 21:24 Him that dieth°° of Ahab° in the city° the dogs° shall eat;°° and him that dieth°° in the field° shall the fowls° of the air° eat.°°

 21:25 ¶ But Ahab{gr.Achaab} [did] wickedly, in that he sold himself to do that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, as his wife Jezebel{gr.Jezabel} led him astray.

 21:25 ¶ But° there was° none° like unto Ahab,° which° did sell°° himself° to work°° wickedness° in the sight° of Yahweh,° whom°° Jezebel° his wife° stirred up.°°

 21:26 And he did very abominably in following after the abominations, according to all that the Amorite did, whom the Lord utterly destroyed from before the children of Israel.

 21:26 And he did very° abominably°° in following°°°° idols,° according to all° [things] as° did°° the Amorites,° whom° Yahweh° cast out°° before°° the children° of Israel.°

 21:27 And because of the word, Ahab{gr.Achaab} was pierced with sorrow before the Lord, and he both went weeping, and rent his garment, and girt sackcloth upon his body, and fasted; he put on sackcloth also in the day that he smote Naboth{gr.Nabuthai} the Jezreelite{gr.Jezraelite}, and went his way.

 21:27 And it came to pass,° when Ahab° heard°°° those° words,° that he rent°° his clothes,° and put°° sackcloth° upon° his flesh,° and fasted,°° and lay°° in sackcloth,° and went°° softly.°

 21:28 And the word of the Lord came by the hand of his servant Elijah{gr.Eliu} concerning Ahab{gr.Achaab}, and the Lord said,

 21:28 And the word° of Yahweh° came° to° Elijah° the Tishbite,° saying,°°

 21:29 Hast thou seen how Ahab{gr.Achaab} has been pricked [to the heart] before me? I will not bring on the evil in his days, but in his son's days will I bring on the evil.

 21:29 Seest°° thou how° Ahab° humbleth°° himself° before°° me? because°° he humbleth°° himself° before°° me, I will not° bring°° the evil° in his days:° [but] in his son's° days° will I bring°° the evil° upon° his house.°
