11:1 ¶
BUT I say, Hath Aloha put away his people? Not so. For I also am of Israel, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benyamen. |
|
11:1
But I say: Hath God cast off his people? Far be it. For I also am of Israel, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. |
11:2
Aloha hath not put away his people whom from before he knew. Or know you not what he saith in the scripture concerning Elia, when he cried unto Aloha against Israel, saying, |
|
11:2
God hath not cast off those his people whom he before knew. Do ye not know, what, in the scripture of God, he said to Elijah? When he had complained to God against Israel, and said: |
11:3
My Lord, thy prophets have they killed, and thy altars overthrown, and I alone am left, and they seek my soul? |
|
11:3
My Lord, they have slain thy prophets, and have thrown down thy altars; and I am left alone; and they seek my life. |
11:4
And it was said to him by revelation, Behold, I have left to myself seven thousand men, who upon their knees have not kneeled nor worshipped Baal. |
|
11:4
And it was said to him, by revelation: Behold, I have reserved for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed their knees, and have not worshipped Baal. |
11:5
So also, at this time, a residue is left by the election of grace. |
|
11:5
So also at the present time, a remnant is preserved, by the election of grace. |
11:6
But if by grace, it is not of works; otherwise grace is not grace. But if by works, it is not of grace; otherwise work is not work. |
|
11:6
But if by grace, it is not by works: otherwise, grace is not grace. And if by works, it is not by grace: Otherwise, work is not work. |
11:7
What then, That which Israel sought he hath not found; but the election hath found: but the rest of them are blinded in their hearts. |
|
11:7
What then? Israel did not obtain that which it sought: but the election obtained it; and the rest of them were blinded in their heart, |
11:8
As it is written, Aloha hath given them the spirit of trouble, And eyes that see not, and ears that hear not, until the present day. |
|
11:8
-(as it is written: God gave them a stupid spirit, and eyes to see not, and ears to hear not,) unto this very day. |
11:9
And David again saith, Let their table become a snare before them, And their reward be for a stumbling-block: |
|
11:9
And again, David said: Let their table become a snare before them; and let their recompense be a stumbling block. |
11:10
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, And their back at all times be bowed; |
|
11:10
Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and let their back, at all times, be bowed down. |
11:11
But I say, Have they stumbled so as to fall? Not so: but, by their stumbling was salvation to the Gentiles, unto [the stirring up of] their zeal. |
|
11:11
But I say: Have they so stumbled as to fall entirely? Far be it. Rather, by their stumbling, life hath come to the Gentiles, for [awakening] their jealousy. |
11:12
And if their stumbling were wealth to the world, and their condemnation wealth to the Gentiles, how much then will their fulness be? |
|
11:12
And if their stumbling was riches to the world, and their condemnation riches to the Gentiles; how much more their completeness? |
11:13
To you, Gentiles, I speak, I, who am apostle of the Gentiles, in my ministry I glory, |
|
11:13
But [it is] to you Gentiles, I am speaking: as I am a legate to the Gentiles, I honor my ministry; |
11:14
if I may provoke my fleshly kindred, and save some of them. |
|
11:14
if, perhaps, I may provoke emulation in the children of my flesh, and may vivify some of them. |
11:15
For if their rejection was the reconciliation of the world, what (will) their conversion (be) but life from the dead? |
|
11:15
For if the rejection of them, was a reconciliation of the world; what will their conversion be, but life from the dead? |
11:16
For if the first-fruits be holy, (so) also (will be) the mass; and if the root be holy, (so) also the branches. |
|
11:16
For, if the first-fruits [are] holy, then the mass [is] also: and if the root is holy, then also the branches. |
11:17
And if the branches were cut off, and thou who art a wild olive art engrafted in their place, and hast a participation of the root and fatness of the olive, |
|
11:17
And if some of the branches were plucked off; and thou, an olive from the desert, wast in-grafted in their place, and hast become a participator of the root and fatness of the olive-tree; |
11:18
boast not against the branches: but if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root beareth thee. |
|
11:18
do not glory over the branches. For if thou gloriest, thou sustainest not the root, but the root sustaineth thee. |
11:19
And perhaps thou wilt say, The branches were cut off, and I in their place am engrafted: |
|
11:19
And shouldst thou say, The branches were plucked off, that I might be grafted into their place. |
11:20
Well, they on account of unbelief were cut off, and thou by faith standest: be not exalted in thy mind, but fear. |
|
11:20
Very true. They were plucked off, because they believed not; and thou standest by faith. Be not exalted in thy mind, but fear. |
11:21
If Aloha spared not them who were branches by nature, (take heed) lest he spare not thee. |
|
11:21
For if God spared not the natural branches, perhaps he will not spare you. |
11:22
Behold, then, the goodness and the severity of Aloha: towards them who fell, severity; but towards thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness; if not, thou also wilt be cut off. |
|
11:22
Behold now the benignity and the severity of God: on them who fell, severity; but on thee, benignity, if thou continuest in that benignity; and if not, thou also wilt be plucked off. |
11:23
And they, if they continue not in their want of faith, they also shall be engrafted; for Aloha is able again to engraft them. |
|
11:23
And they, if they do not continue in their destitution of faith, even they will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. |
11:24
For if thou who art of the wild olive which is thy nature, wast cut off, and, which was not thy nature, art engrafted into the good olive, how much more they, if they are engrafted into the olive of their nature? |
|
11:24
For if thou wast plucked from the wild olive-tree, which was natural to thee, and wast grafted, contrary to thy nature, into a good olive-tree; how much more may they be grafted into their natural olive-tree? |
11:25
But I would have you know, my brethren, this mystery, that you may not be wise in your own mind, -that blindness of heart for a little space is unto Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles be brought in: |
|
11:25
And that ye, my brethren, may not be wise in your own apprehension, I wish you to know this mystery, that blindness of heart hath in some measure befallen Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles shall come in: |
11:26
and then all Israel shall be saved. As it is written, The Redeemer shall come from Sion, And turn iniquity from Jakub; |
|
11:26
and then, will all Israel live. As it is written: A deliverer will come from Zion, and will turn away iniquity from Jacob. |
11:27
And then shall be to them my covenant, When I have forgiven them their sins. |
|
11:27
And then will they have the covenant that proceedeth from me, when I shall have forgiven their sins. |
11:28
But, in (regard of) the gospel, they are enemies on your account; and, in the election, they are beloved on account of the fathers. |
|
11:28
Now, in the gospel, they are enemies for your sake; but in the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sake. |
11:29
For Aloha turneth not in his gift and in his vocation. |
|
11:29
For God is not changeable in his free gift and in his calling. |
11:30
For as you also were not obedient unto Aloha at the first, and now have received mercy through their disobedience; |
|
11:30
For as ye too were formerly disobedient to God, and have now obtained mercy, because of their disobedience; |
11:31
so also these are now disobedient for the mercy that is upon you, that upon them also might be mercy. |
|
11:31
so also are they now disobedient to the mercy, which is upon you, that there may be mercy on them likewise. |
11:32
For Aloha hath included them all in disobedience, that upon all he might show mercy. |
|
11:32
For God hath shut up all men in disobedience, that upon all men he might have mercy. |
11:33
O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of Aloha, whose judgments man searcheth not, and whose ways are inscrutable! |
|
11:33
O the depth of the riches, and the wisdom, and the knowledge of God! For man hath not searched out his judgments; and his ways are inscrutable. |
11:34
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, or who hath been his counsellor? |
|
11:34
For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been a counsellor to him? |
11:35
Or who hath first given to him, that so he should receive from him? |
|
11:35
Or who hath first given to him, and then received from him? |
11:36
For all is of him, and all in him, and all by him. To him be praises and benedictions unto the age of ages. Amen. |
|
11:36
Because, all is from him, and all by him, and all through him: to whom be praises and benedictions, for ever and ever: Amen. |
