7:1 ¶
AFTER these Jeshu walked in Galila; for he would not walk in Jihuda, because the Jihudoyee had sought to kill him. |
|
7:1
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to slay him. |
7:2
And the feast of tabernacles of the Jihudoyee drew nigh. |
|
7:2
And the Jewish feast of tabernacles drew near. |
7:3
And his brethren said to Jeshu, Remove thee hence, and go into Jihuda, that thy disciples may see the works which thou doest. |
|
7:3
And the brothers of Jesus said to him: Leave here, and go into Judaea; that thy disciples may see the works thou doest. |
7:4
For there is no man who doeth any thing in concealment, and willeth himself to be in openness: if these things thou doest, show thyself to the world. |
|
7:4
For there is no one who doeth any thing in secret, while he wisheth to become public. If thou doest these things, show thyself to the world. |
7:5
For neither did his brethren believe in him, in Jeshu. |
|
7:5
For even his brothers did not believe in Jesus. |
7:6
Jeshu saith to them, My time until now cometh not, but your time is always ready. |
|
7:6
Jesus said to them: My time hath not yet come: but your time is always ready. |
7:7
The world cannot hate you: but me it hateth, because I bear witness against it that the works of it are evil. |
|
7:7
The world cannot hate you, but me it hateth; because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil. |
7:8
Go you up to this feast: I do not ascend now to this feast, because my time is not yet complete. |
|
7:8
Go ye up to the feast; I do not go up to this feast now, because my time is not yet completed. |
7:9
These things said he, and remained in Galila. |
|
7:9
These things he said, and remained still in Galilee. |
7:10
But when his brethren had ascended to the feast, then also he ascended; not in openness, but as in concealment. |
|
7:10
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not openly, but as it were secretly. |
7:11
But the Jihudoyee sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? |
|
7:11
And the Jews sought for him at the feast; and they said, Where is he? |
7:12
and there was great murmuring concerning him among the people; for some said that he was good, and others said, No; but he deceiveth the people. |
|
7:12
And there was much altercation among the people respecting him; for some said, He is a good man; while others said, No, but he deceiveth the people. |
7:13
But no man openly spoke of him, for fear of the Jihudoyee. |
|
7:13
Yet no one spoke openly of him, from fear of the Jews. |
7:14
But when the days of the feast divided, Jeshu ascended to the temple, and taught. |
|
7:14
And in the midst of the days of the feast, Jesus went into the temple, and taught. |
7:15
And the Jihudoyee wondered and said, How knoweth this man the scripture, when he hath not learned? |
|
7:15
And the Jews wondered, and said: How knoweth this man literature, having not been educated? |
7:16
Jeshu answered and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his who sent me. |
|
7:16
Jesus answered and said: My doctrine is not from me, but from him that sent me. |
7:17
Whosoever willeth to do his will understandeth my doctrine, if it be from Aloha, or (if) from the will of myself I speak. |
|
7:17
He that wisheth to do his pleasure, will understand my doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from my own pleasure. |
7:18
He who from the will of his (own) mind speaketh, the glory of himself seeketh; but he who the glory of him who hath sent him seeketh, is true, and no iniquity is in him. |
|
7:18
He that speaketh according to the pleasure of his own mind, seeketh glory for himself: but he who seeketh the glory of him that sent him, is veracious, and evil is not in his heart. |
7:19
Did not Musha give you the law? But no man of you keepeth the law. |
|
7:19
Did not Moses give you the law? Yet no one of you observeth the law. |
7:20
Why seek you to kill me? The people answered, saying, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee? |
|
7:20
Why do ye seek to kill me? The multitude answered and said: Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee? |
7:21
Jeshu answered and said to them, One work have I performed, and all of you wondered on this account. |
|
7:21
Jesus replied, and said to them: I have wrought one work, and ye all wonder. |
7:22
Musha gave you circumcision, not because it was from the fathers, and on the shabath you circumcise a man. |
|
7:22
Because Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it was from Moses, but it was from the fathers,) ye circumcise a child on the sabbath. |
7:23
But if a man is circumcised on the day of shabath because the law of Musha may not be broken, why against me do you murmur, because I have altogether healed a man on the day of shabath? |
|
7:23
And if a child is circumcised on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be violated, do ye murmur at me, because I have made a man entirely sound on the sabbath day? |
7:24
Judge not with acceptance of persons, but righteous judgment judge you. |
|
7:24
Judge not, with a respect for persons; but judge ye a righteous judgment. |
7:25
And some of Urishlem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill? |
|
7:25
And some from Jerusalem said: Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? |
7:26
and, behold, openly he discourseth, and nothing say they to him. Do the elders know that this is truly the Meshicha? |
|
7:26
And lo, he discourseth publicly, and they say nothing to him. Do our Elders know, that he really is the Messiah? |
7:27
Yet of this we know from whence he is; but when the Meshicha cometh, no man knoweth from whence he is. |
|
7:27
Yet we know this man, whence he is; the Messiah, when he shall come, no one knoweth whence he is. |
7:28
Jeshu lifted up his voice as he taught in the temple, and said, You know me, and from whence I am you know: and of myself I am not come; but true is he who sent me, he whom you know not. |
|
7:28
And Jesus, while teaching in the temple, raised his voice and said: Ye both know me, and ye know from whence I am. And I did not come of my own accord; but he that sent me is true. Him ye know not; |
7:29
But I know him who am from him; and he hath sent me. |
|
7:29
but I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me. |
7:30
And they sought to apprehend him; but no man laid hands on him, because not yet was come his hour. |
|
7:30
And they sought to apprehend him; but no one laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. |
7:31
But many of the multitude believed in him, and said, When the Meshicha is come, will he exceed the miracles which this doeth? |
|
7:31
And many of the multitude believed on him, and said: When the Messiah cometh, will he work greater signs than these which this man doeth? |
7:32
The Pharishee heard the assembly, that they said these things of him, and the chief priests sent officers to apprehend him. |
|
7:32
And the Pharisees heard the multitude say these things of him: and they and the chief priests sent constables to take him. |
7:33
Jeshu said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him who sent me: |
|
7:33
And Jesus said: A little while longer I am with you, and then I go to him that sent me. |
7:34
and you will seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am you cannot come. |
|
7:34
And ye will seek me, and will not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come. |
7:35
The Jihudoyee say among themselves, Whither is this about to go, that we cannot find him? To the countries of the nations is he to go, and to teach the Heathens? |
|
7:35
The Jews said among themselves: Whither is he about to go, that we cannot find him? Will he go to some region of the Gentiles, and teach the profane? |
7:36
What is this word he hath said, You shall seek me, and not find me; and where I am you cannot come? |
|
7:36
What means this speech he uttered: Ye will seek me, and will not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come? |
7:37 ¶
BUT in the great day, which was the last of the feast, stood Jeshu and cried, and said, If (any) man thirst, let him come unto me and drink; |
|
7:37
And on the great day, which was the last of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, and said: If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink. |
7:38
for whosoever believeth in me, as have said the scriptures, rivers of living waters shall flow from his belly. |
|
7:38
Whoever believeth in me, as the scriptures have said, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters. |
7:39
But this he spake of the Spirit which they should receive who believe in him. For not yet was the Spirit given, because not yet was Jeshu glorified. |
|
7:39
(This he said of the Spirit, which they who believe in him were to receive: for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.) |
7:40
Now many of the assemblies who heard his words said, This is truly the Prophet. |
|
7:40
And many of the multitude who heard his discourses, said: Certainly, he is a prophet. |
7:41
Others said, This is the Meshicha. Others said, How from Galila cometh the Meshicha? |
|
7:41
Others said: He is the Messiah. Others said: Doth Messiah come from Galilee? |
7:42
Hath not the scripture said, That from the seed of David, and from Beth-lechem the town of David, cometh the Meshicha? |
|
7:42
Doth not the scriptures say, That Messiah cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem the town of David? |
7:43
And there was a division concerning him among the assemblies; |
|
7:43
And there was a division among the multitude respecting him. |
7:44
and there were men of them who would have apprehended him; but no man laid hands on him. |
|
7:44
And there were some of them who wished to apprehend him. But no one laid hands on him. |
7:45 ¶
AND those officers came to the chief priests and the Pharishee; and the priests said to them, Why have you not brought him? |
|
7:45
And the constables came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and the priests said to them: Why have ye not brought him? |
7:46
The officers say to them, Never so spake a son of man as speaks this man! |
|
7:46
The constables say to them: Never did a man speak, as this man speaketh. |
7:47
The Pharishee say to them, Are you also deceived? |
|
7:47
The Pharisees said to them: Are ye also deceived? |
7:48
Have any of the heads, or of the Pharishee, believed in him? |
|
7:48
Have any of the chiefs, or of the Pharisees, believed in him? |
7:49
But if this people who know not the law (believe in him), they are accursed. |
|
7:49
But this people, who know not the law, are accursed. |
7:50
One of them, Nikodimos, he who came to Jeshu by night, saith to them, |
|
7:50
One of them: Nicodemus, he who came to Jesus by night, said to them: |
7:51
Does our law condemn a man unless it shall hear from him first, and know what he hath done? |
|
7:51
Doth our law condemn a man, unless it first hear him, and know what he hath done? |
7:52
They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galila? Investigate, and see, that the Prophet from Galila ariseth not. |
|
7:52
They answered, and said to him: Art thou also from Galilee? Search, and see, that no prophet ariseth from Galilee. |
