5:1 ¶
AFTER these there was a feast of the Jihudoyee, and Jeshu went up to Urishlem. |
|
5:1
After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. |
5:2
Now there was there in Urishlem a certain place of ablution, which was called in Hebrew Bethchesda, and having in it five porticoes. |
|
5:2
And there was there in Jerusalem a certain place of baptizing, which was called in Hebrew Bethesda; and there were in it five porches. |
5:3
And in these were many infirm people, blind and lame and withered, awaiting the moving of the waters. |
|
5:3
And in them were laid a great multitude of the sick, and the blind, and the lame, and the withered, waiting for the moving of the waters. |
5:4
For an angel at times descended to the pool and moved the waters; and he who first descended after the movement of the waters was healed of whatever disease he had. |
|
5:4
For an angel, from time to time, descended into the baptistery, and moved the waters; and he who first went in, after the moving of the waters, was cured of whatever disease he had. |
5:5
But a certain man was there who for thirty-and-eight years had been in a disease. |
|
5:5
And a certain man was there, who had been diseased thirty and eight years. |
5:6
Jeshu saw this (man) as he lay, and knew that for a long time he had (been thus), and said to him, Art thou willing to be healed? |
|
5:6
Jesus saw him lying, and knew that [his disease] had been a long time upon him, and said to him: Desirest thou to be healed? |
5:7
The diseased man answered and said, Yes, my Lord; but I have no man who, when the waters are moved, shall cast me into the pool: but while I am coming, another before me descendeth. |
|
5:7
And the sick man answered and said: Yes, my lord; but I have no one who, when the water is moved, will put me into the baptistery; but while I am coming, another descendeth before me. |
5:8
Jeshu saith to him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk. |
|
5:8
Jesus said to him: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk. |
5:9
And in the instant that man was healed, and, arising, he took up his bed, and walked: and that day was the shabath. |
|
5:9
And immediately the man was healed; and he arose, took up his bed, and walked; and it was the sabbath day. |
5:10
And the Jihudoyee said to him who had been healed, This is the shabath: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. |
|
5:10
And the Jews said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to bear thy bed. |
5:11
But he answered and said to them, He who made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk. |
|
5:11
But he answered, and said to them: He that made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed and walk. |
5:12
And they said to him, What man is this who told thee to take up thy bed, and walk? |
|
5:12
And they asked him: Who is the man that said to thee, Take up thy bed and walk? |
5:13
But he who had been healed knew not who it was; for Jeshu had retired among the great multitude which was in that place. |
|
5:13
But the man that was healed, knew not who it was; for Jesus had slid away, in the great multitude that was in the place. |
5:14
After a time Jeshu found him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art healed: sin not again, lest there be to thee that which is worse than the first. |
|
5:14
After a time, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him: Lo, thou art healed; sin not again, lest something worse come upon thee than before. |
5:15
And that man went away, and told the Jihudoyee, that it was Jeshu who had healed him. |
|
5:15
And the man went and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had cured him. |
5:16
On account of this the Jihudoyee persecuted Jeshu, and sought to kill him, because these things he had done on the shabath. |
|
5:16
And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him; because he had done these things on the sabbath. |
5:17
But he, Jeshu, said to them, My Father until now worketh, I also work. |
|
5:17
But Jesus said to them: My Father worketh until now, and I work. |
5:18
But on this account the more sought the Jihudoyee to kill him, not only because he had loosed the shabath, but also that of Aloha he had said that he was his Father, and had made himself equal with Aloha. |
|
5:18
And for this, the Jews sought the more to kill him, not only because he had broken the sabbath, but because he had said of God, that he was his Father, and had equalled himself with God. |
5:19 ¶
BUT Jeshu answered and said to them, Amen, amen, I say to you, The Son cannot do any thing from the will of himself, but that which he seeth the Father do. For those which the Father doeth, these also the Son likewise doeth. |
|
5:19
And Jesus answered, and said to them: Verily, verily, I say to you: The Son can do nothing, of his own pleasure, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things the Father doeth, these in like manner doeth the Son. |
5:20
For the Father loveth the Son, and every thing that he doeth he showeth him; and greater than these works he showeth him, that you may wonder. |
|
5:20
For the Father loveth his Son, and showeth him every thing he doeth: and greater works than these, will he show him, that ye may wonder. |
5:21
For as the Father raiseth the dead, and quickeneth, so also the Son quickeneth those whom he willeth. |
|
5:21
For as the Father raiseth the dead, and vivifieth them; so also the Son vivifieth whom he pleaseth. |
5:22
For the Father judgeth no man, but all judgment he hath given to the Son; |
|
5:22
For neither doth the Father judge any one, but hath given all judgment to the Son: |
5:23
that all men should honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father who sent him. |
|
5:23
that every man may honor the Son, as he honoreth the Father. He that honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father that sent him. |
5:24
Amen, amen, I say to you, He who heareth my word and believeth on him who sent me, hath the life that is eternal, and into condemnation he cometh not, but hath passed from death unto life. |
|
5:24
Verily, verily, I say to you, That he who heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath life eternal, and will not come into condemnation, but hath passed from death to life. |
5:25
Amen, amen, I say to you, That the hour cometh and also now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Aloha; and they who hear shall live |
|
5:25
Verily, verily, I say to you, That the hour cometh, and even now come, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear, will live. |
5:26
For as the Father hath life in his person, so hath he given also to the Son to have life in his person, |
|
5:26
For, as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son also, to have life in himself: |
5:27
and hath empowered him also to execute judgment. Because he is the Son of man, |
|
5:27
and hath moreover given him authority to execute judgment. But that he is the Son of man, |
5:28
marvel not at this; for the hour cometh when all they who are in the sepulchres shall hear his voice, |
|
5:28
wonder not at this; for the hour cometh when all that are in their graves will hear his voice; |
5:29
and shall come forth; they who have done good unto the resurrection of life, and they who have done evil unto the resurrection of condemnation. |
|
5:29
and will come forth; they that have done good, to the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. |
5:30 ¶
I CANNOT of the will of myself do any thing; but as I hear I judge, and my judgment is just; for I seek not my will, but the will of Him who sent me. |
|
5:30
I can do nothing of my own pleasure; but as I hear, so I judge. And my judgment is just; for I seek not my own pleasure, but the pleasure of him that sent me. |
5:31
If I should witness concerning myself, my testimony would not be (regarded as) truth: |
|
5:31
If I should bear testimony respecting myself, my testimony would not be valid. |
5:32
there is another who witnesseth of me, and I know that true is his testimony which he hath witnessed of me. |
|
5:32
There is another that beareth testimony concerning me; and I know that the testimony which he beareth concerning me is true. |
5:33
You sent to Juchanon, and he witnessed of the truth. |
|
5:33
Ye sent unto John; and he bore testimony to the truth. |
5:34
But I do not from man (only) receive testimony. But these (things) speak I that you may be saved. |
|
5:34
And I have not received testimony from men: but these things I say, that ye may live. |
5:35
He was a lamp that burneth and shineth, and you were willing to glory for the hour in his light. |
|
5:35
He was a burning and shining lamp; and ye were willing for a time, to glory in his light. |
5:36
But I have a testimony which is greater than that of Juchanon; for the works that the Father hath given me to accomplish, these works that I do testify of me that the Father hath sent me. |
|
5:36
But I have a testimony, which is greater than that of John; for the works which my Father hath given me to accomplish, these works which I do, testify of me that the Father hath sent me. |
5:37
And the Father who hath sent me, he testifieth of me: but his voice you have never heard, nor his appearance seen. |
|
5:37
And the Father who sent me, he testifieth of me. Ye have not at any time heard his voice, nor have ye seen his visage. |
5:38
And his word abideth not in you, because in Him whom he hath sent you do not believe. |
|
5:38
And his word abideth not in you, because ye believe not in him whom he hath sent. |
5:39
Investigate the scriptures; for in them you think you have the life that is eternal, and they testify of me. |
|
5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them, ye think, there is life eternal for you; and they testify of me. |
5:40
And you will not come to me that the life that is eternal you might have. |
|
5:40
And ye are unwilling to come to me, that life eternal may be yours. |
5:41
Glory from the sons of men I receive not. |
|
5:41
I do not receive glory from men. |
5:42
But I know you, that the love of Aloha is not in you. |
|
5:42
But I know you, that the love of God is not in you. |
5:43
I have come in the name of my Father, and you have not received me. If another should come in his own name, him you would receive. |
|
5:43
I came in the name of my Father, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. |
5:44
How can you believe, who glory one from another are receiving, and the glory which is from one, Aloha, you seek not? |
|
5:44
How can ye believe, who receive glory from one another, and seek not the glory which cometh from God only? |
5:45
How think you that I will accuse you before the Father? There is one who accuseth you, Musha himself, in whom you hope. |
|
5:45
Do ye suppose, that I shall accuse you before the Father? There is one that will accuse you, that Moses, on whom ye rely. |
5:46
For if in Musha you had believed, you would also have believed in me; for Musha of me hath written. |
|
5:46
For, if ye believed Moses, ye would also believe me; for Moses wrote concerning me. |
5:47
But if his writings you believe not, how my words will you believe? |
|
5:47
But if ye believe not his writings, how will ye believe my words? |
