 16:1 ¶ And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

 16:1 ¶ º Theº Phariseesº alsoº with the Sadduceesº came,ºº andº temptingºº desiredººº himº that he would shewºº themº a signº fromº heaven.º

 16:2 But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, [It will be] fair weather: for the heaven is red.

 16:2 º Heº answeredºº and saidºº unto them,º When it isºº evening,º ye say,ºº [It will be] fair weather:º forº theº skyº is red.ºº

 16:3 And in the morning, [It will be] foul weather to-day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven; but ye cannot [discern] the signs of the times.

 16:3 Andº in the morning,º [It will be] foul weatherº to day:º forº theº skyºº is redºº andº lowring.ºº O [ye] hypocrites,º ye canºº discernººº theºº faceº of theº sky;º butº canº yeºº notº [discern] theº signsº of theº times?º

 16:4 An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah. And he left them, and departed.

 16:4 A wickedº andº adulterousº generationº seeketh afterºº a sign;º andº there shall noº signº be givenºº unto it,º butº theº signº of theº prophetº Jonas.º Andº he leftºº them,º and departed.ºº

 16:5 And the disciples came to the other side and forgot to take bread.

 16:5 Andº when hisº disciplesº were comeºº toº theº other side,º they had forgottenºº to takeºº bread.º

 16:6 ¶ And Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

 16:6 ¶ Thenº Jesusº saidºº unto them,º Take heedºº andº bewareºº ofº theº leavenº of theº Phariseesº andº of the Sadducees.º

 16:7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, We took no bread.

 16:7 Andº theyº reasonedºº amongº themselves,º saying,ºº [It is] becauseº we have takenºº noº bread.º

 16:8 And Jesus perceiving it said, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have no bread?

 16:8 [Which] whenº Jesusº perceived,ºº he saidºº unto them,º O ye of little faith,º whyº reasonº yeºº amongº yourselves,º becauseº ye have broughtºº noº bread?º

 16:9 Do ye not yet perceive, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

 16:9 Do yeºº not yetº understand,ºº neitherº rememberºº theº fiveº loavesº of theº five thousand,º andº how manyº basketsº ye took up?ºº

 16:10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

 16:10 Neitherº theº sevenº loavesº of theº four thousand,º andº how manyº basketsº ye took up?ºº

 16:11 How is it that ye do not perceive that I spake not to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

 16:11 Howº is it thatº ye doºº notº understandºº thatº I spakeºº [it] notº to youº concerningº bread,º that ye should bewareºº ofº theº leavenº of theº Phariseesº andº of the Sadducees?º

 16:12 Then understood they that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

 16:12 Thenº understoodº theyºº howº thatº he badeºº [them] notº bewareºº ofº theº leavenº of bread,º butº ofº theº doctrineº of theº Phariseesº andº of the Sadducees.º

 16:13 ¶ Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is?

 16:13 ¶ Whenº Jesusº cameºº intoº theº coastsº of Caesareaº Philippi,º he askedºº hisºº disciples,º saying,ºº Whomº do menº sayºº that Iº theº Sonº of manºº am?ºº

 16:14 And they said, Some [say] John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

 16:14 Andº theyº said,ºº Someº [sayº that thou art]º Johnº theº Baptist:ºº some,º Elias;º andº others,º Jeremias,º orº oneº of theº prophets.º

 16:15 He saith unto them, But who say ye that I am?

 16:15 He saithºº unto them,º Butº whomº sayºº yeº that Iº am?ºº

 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

 16:16 Andº Simonº Peterº answeredºº and said,ºº Thouº artºº theº Christ,º theº Sonº of the livingºº God.º

 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

 16:17 Andº Jesusº answeredºº and saidºº unto him,º Blessedº artº thou,ºº Simonº Barjona:º forº fleshº andº bloodº hathºº notº revealedºº [it] unto thee,º butº myº Fatherº whichº is inº heaven.º

 16:18 And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

 16:18 Andº I sayºº alsoºº unto thee,º Thatº thouº artºº Peter,º andº uponº thisº rockº I will buildºº myº church;º andº the gatesº of hellº shallºº notº prevail againstºº it.º

 16:19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

 16:19 Andº I will giveºº unto theeº theº keysº of theº kingdomº of heaven:º andº whatsoeverºº thou shalt bindºº onº earthº shallº beºº boundºº inº heaven:º andº whatsoeverºº thou shalt looseºº onº earthº shall beºº loosedºº inº heaven.º

 16:20 Then charged he the disciples that they should tell no man that he was the Christ.

 16:20 Thenº chargedº heºº hisºº disciplesº thatº they should tellºº no manº thatºº heº wasºº Jesusº theº Christ.º

 16:21 ¶ From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

 16:21 ¶ Fromº that time forthº beganºº Jesusº to shewºº unto hisºº disciples,º how thatº heº mustºº goºº untoº Jerusalem,º andº sufferºº many thingsº ofº theº eldersº andº chief priestsº andº scribes,º andº be killed,ºº andº be raised againºº theº thirdº day.º

 16:22 And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall never be unto thee.

 16:22 Thenº Peterº tookºº him,º and beganºº to rebukeºº him,º saying,ºº Be it farº from thee,º Lord:º thisº shallºº notº beºº unto thee.º

 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art a stumbling-block unto me: for thou mindest not the things of God, but the things of men.

 16:23 Butº heº turned,ºº and saidºº unto Peter,º Getº theeºº behindº me,º Satan:º thouºº artºº an offenceº unto me:º forº thou savourestºº notº the thingsº that be of God,º butº thoseº that be of men.º

 16:24 ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

 16:24 ¶ Thenº saidºº Jesusº unto hisºº disciples,º If anyº [man] willºº comeºº afterº me,º let him denyºº himself,º andº take upºº hisºº cross,º andº followºº me.º

 16:25 For whosoever would save his life shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake shall find it.

 16:25 Forº whosoeverºº willºº saveºº hisºº lifeº shall loseºº it:º andº whosoeverºº will loseºº hisºº lifeº forºº myº sakeºº shall findºº it.º

 16:26 For what shall a man be profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?

 16:26 Forº whatº is a manº profited,ºº ifº he shall gainºº theº wholeº world,º andºº loseºº his ownºº soul?º orº whatº shall a manº giveºº in exchangeº for hisºº soul?º

 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he render unto every man according to his deeds.

 16:27 Forº theº Sonº of manº shallºº comeºº inº theº gloryº of hisºº Fatherº withº hisºº angels;º andº thenº he shall rewardºº every manº accordingº to hisºº works.º

 16:28 Verily I say unto you, there are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

 16:28 Verilyº I sayºº unto you,º There beºº someº standingºº here,º whichº shallºº notºº tasteºº of death,º tillºº they seeºº theº Sonº of manº comingºº inº hisºº kingdom.º
