Hebrews 11

1 What faith is. 6 Without faith we cannot please God. 7 The worthy fruits thereof in the fathers of old time.

 11:1 Now 1161 faith 4102 is the assurance 5287 of [things] hoped 1679 for, the conviction 1650 of things 4229 not seen 991.

 11:2 For by it the men 4245 of old 4245 gained 3140 approval 3140.

 11:3 ¶ By faith 4102 we understand 3539 that the worlds 165 were prepared 2675 by the word 4487 of God 2316, so 1519 that what is seen 991 was not made 1096 out of things which are visible 5316.

 11:4 By faith 4102 Abel 6 offered 4374 to God 2316 a better 4183 sacrifice 2378 than 3844 Cain 2535, through 1223 which 3739 he obtained 3140 the testimony 3140 that he was righteous 1342, God 2316 testifying 3140 about 1909 his gifts 1435, and through 1223 faith, though he is dead 599, he still 2089 speaks 2980.

 11:5 By faith 4102 Enoch 1802 was taken 3346a up so that he would not see 3708 death 2288; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND 2147 BECAUSE 1360 GOD 2316 TOOK 3346a HIM UP; for he obtained 3140 the witness 3140 that before 4253 his being 3331 taken 3331 up he was pleasing 2100 to God 2316.

 11:6 And without 5565 faith 4102 it is impossible 102 to please 2100 [Him], for he who comes 4334 to God 2316 must 1163 believe 4100 that He is and [that] He is a rewarder 3406 of those 3588 who seek 1567a Him.

 11:7 By faith 4102 Noah 3575, being warned 5537 [by God] about 4012 things not yet 3369 seen 991, in reverence 2125 prepared 2680 an ark 2787 for the salvation 4991 of his household 3624, by which 3739 he condemned 2632 the world 2889, and became 1096 an heir 2818 of the righteousness 1343 which is according 2596 to faith 4102.

 11:8 ¶ By faith 4102 Abraham 11, when he was called 2564, obeyed 5219 by going 1831 out to a place 5117 which 3739 he was to receive 2983 for an inheritance 2817; and he went 1831 out, not knowing 1987 where 4226 he was going 2064.

 11:9 By faith 4102 he lived 3939 as an alien 3939 in the land 1093 of promise 1860, as in a foreign 245 [land], dwelling 2730 in tents 4633 with Isaac 2464 and Jacob 2384, fellow 4789 heirs 4789 of the same 846 promise 1860;

 11:10 for he was looking 1551 for the city 4172 which 3739 has 2192 foundations 2310b, whose 3739 architect 5079 and builder 1217 is God 2316.

 11:11 By faith 4102 even 2532 Sarah 4564 herself 846 received 2983 ability 1411 to conceive 2602 4690, even 2532 beyond 3844 the proper 2540 time 2540 of life 2244, since 1893 she considered 2233 Him faithful 4103 who had promised 1861.

 11:12 Therefore 1352 there was born 1096 even 2532 of one 1520 man 1520, and him as good as dead 3499 at that, [as many descendants] AS THE STARS 798 OF HEAVEN 3772 IN NUMBER 4128, AND INNUMERABLE 382 AS THE SAND 285 WHICH IS BY THE SEASHORE 2281.

 11:13 ¶ All 3956 these 3778 died 599 in faith 4102, without 3361 receiving 2865 the promises 1860, but having seen 3708 them and having welcomed 782 them from a distance 4207, and having confessed 3670 that they were strangers 3581 and exiles 3927 on the earth 1093.

 11:14 For those 3588 who say 3004 such 5108 things 5108 make 1718 it clear 1718 that they are seeking 1934 a country 3968 of their own 3968.

 11:15 And indeed 3303a if 1487 they had been thinking 3421 of that [country] from which 3739 they went 1544a out, they would have had 2192 opportunity 2540 to return 344.

 11:16 But as it is, they desire 3713 a better 2909 [country], that is, a heavenly 2032 one 2032. Therefore 1352 God 2316 is not ashamed 1870 to be called 1941 their God 2316; for He has prepared 2090 a city 4172 for them.

 11:17 ¶ By faith 4102 Abraham 11, when he was tested 3985, offered 4374 up Isaac 2464, and he who had received 324 the promises 1860 was offering 4374 up his only 3439 begotten 3439 [son];

 11:18 [it was he] to whom 3739 it was said 2980, “IN ISAAC 2464 YOUR DESCENDANTS 4690 SHALL BE CALLED 2564.”

 11:19 He considered 3049 that God 2316 is able 1415 to raise 1453 [people] even 2532 from the dead 3498, from which 3606 he also 2532 received 2865 him back 2865 as a type 3850b.

 11:20 By faith 4102 Isaac 2464 blessed 2127 Jacob 2384 and Esau 2269a, even 2532 regarding 4012 things 3195 to come 3195.

 11:21 By faith 4102 Jacob 2384, as he was dying 599, blessed 2127 each 1538 of the sons 5207 of Joseph 2501, and worshiped 4352, [leaning] on the top 206 of his staff 4464.

 11:22 By faith 4102 Joseph 2501, when he was dying 5053, made 3421 mention 3421 of the exodus 1841 of the sons 5207 of Israel 2474, and gave 1781 orders 1781 concerning 4012 his bones 3747.

 11:23 ¶ By faith 4102 Moses 3475, when he was born 1080, was hidden 2928 for three 5150 months 5150 by his parents 3962, because 1360 they saw 3708 he was a beautiful 791 child 3813; and they were not afraid 5399 of the king’s 935 edict 1297.

 11:24 By faith 4102 Moses 3475, when he had grown 3173 1096 up, refused 720 to be called 3004 the son 5207 of Pharaoh’s 5328 daughter 2364,

 11:25 choosing 138 rather 3123 to endure 4778 ill-treatment 4778 with the people 2992 of God 2316 than 2228 to enjoy 619 the passing 4340 pleasures 619 of sin 266,

 11:26 considering 2233 the reproach 3680 of Christ 5547 greater 3173 riches 4149 than the treasures 2344 of Egypt 125; for he was looking 578 to the reward 3405.

 11:27 By faith 4102 he left 2641 Egypt 125, not fearing 5399 the wrath 2372 of the king 935; for he endured 2594, as seeing 3708 Him who is unseen 517.

 11:28 By faith 4102 he kept 4160 the Passover 3957 and the sprinkling 4378 of the blood 129, so 2443 that he who destroyed 3639 the firstborn 4416a would not touch 2345 them.

 11:29 By faith 4102 they passed 1224 through 1224 the Red 2063 Sea 2281 as though 5613 [they were passing] through 1223 dry 3584 land 1093; and the Egyptians 124, when they attempted 3984 2983 it, were drowned 2666.

 11:30 ¶ By faith 4102 the walls 5038 of Jericho 2410a fell 4098 down 4098 after they had been encircled 2944 for seven 2033 days 2250.

 11:31 By faith 4102 Rahab 4460 the harlot 4204 did not perish 4881 along 4881 with those 3588 who were disobedient 544, after she had welcomed 1209 the spies 2685 in peace 1515.

 11:32 ¶ And what 5101 more 2089 shall I say 3004? For time 5550 will fail 1952a me if I tell 1334 of Gideon 1066, Barak 913, Samson 4546, Jephthah 2422, of David 1160b and Samuel 4545 and the prophets 4396,

 11:33 who 3739 by faith 4102 conquered 2610 kingdoms 932, performed 2038b [acts of] righteousness 1343, obtained 2013 promises 1860, shut 5420 the mouths 4750 of lions 3023,

 11:34 quenched 4570 the power 1411 of fire 4442, escaped 5343 the edge 4750 of the sword 3162, from weakness 769 were made 1412 strong 1412, became 1096 mighty 2478 in war 4171, put 2827 foreign 245 armies 3925b to flight 2827.

 11:35 Women 1135 received 2983 [back] their dead 3498 by resurrection 386; and others 243 were tortured 5178, not accepting 4327 their release 629, so 2443 that they might obtain 5177 a better 2909 resurrection 386;

 11:36 and others 2087 experienced 2983 3984 mockings 1701b and scourgings 3148, yes 2089, also 1161 chains 1199 and imprisonment 5438.

 11:37 They were stoned 3034, they were sawn 4249 in two 4249, they were tempted 3985, they were put 599 to death 599 1722 5408 with the sword 3162; they went 4022 about 4022 in sheepskins 3374, in goatskins 122 1192, being destitute 5302, afflicted 2346, ill-treated 2558

 11:38 ([men] of whom 3739 the world 2889 was not worthy 514), wandering 4105 in deserts 2047 and mountains 3735 and caves 4693 and holes 3692 in the ground 1093.

 11:39 ¶ And all 3956 these 3778, having gained 3140 approval 3140 through 1223 their faith 4102, did not receive 2865 what 1860 was promised 1860,

 11:40 because God 2316 had provided 4265 something 5100 better 2909 for us, so 2443 that apart 5565 from us they would not be made 5048 perfect 5048.
