2 Kings 9

1 Elisha sendeth a young prophet with instructions to anoint Jehu at Ramoth-gilead. 4 The prophet having done his message fleeth. 11 Jehu, being made king by the soldiers, killeth Joram in the field of Naboth. 27 Ahaziah is slain at Gur, and buried at Jerusalem. 30 Proud Jezebel is thrown down out of a window, and eaten by dogs.

 9:1 Now Elisha 477 the prophet 5030 called 7121 one 259 of the sons 1121 of the prophets 5030 and said 559 to him, “Gird 2296 up your loins 4975, and take 3947 this 2088 flask 6378 of oil 8081 in your hand 3027 and go 1980 to Ramoth-gilead 7433.

 9:2 “When you arrive 935 there 8033, search 7200 out Jehu 3058 the son 1121 of Jehoshaphat 3092 the son 1121 of Nimshi 5250, and go 935 in and bid him arise 6965 from among 8432 his brothers 251, and bring 935 him to an inner 2315 room 2315.

 9:3 “Then take 3947 the flask 6378 of oil 8081 and pour 3332 it on his head 7218 and say 559, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “I have anointed 4886 you king 4428 over 5921 Israel 3478.”’ Then open 6605a the door 1817 and flee 5127 and do not wait 2442.”

 9:4 ¶ So the young 5288 man 5288, the servant 5288 of the prophet 5030, went 1980 to Ramoth-gilead 7433.

 9:5 When he came 935, behold 2009, the captains 8269 of the army 2428 were sitting 3427, and he said 559, “I have a word 1697 for you, O captain 8269.” And Jehu 3058 said 559, “For which 4310 [one] of us?” And he said 559, “For you, O captain 8269.”

 9:6 He arose 6965 and went 935 into the house 1004, and he poured 3332 the oil 8081 on his head 7218 and said 559 to him, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Israel 3478, ‘I have anointed 4886 you king 4428 over 413 the people 5971a of the LORD 3068, [even] over 413 Israel 3478.

 9:7 ‘You shall strike 5221 the house 1004 of Ahab 256 your master 113, that I may avenge 5358 the blood 1818 of My servants 5650 the prophets 5030, and the blood 1818 of all 3605 the servants 5650 of the LORD 3068, at the hand 3027 of Jezebel 348.

 9:8 ‘For the whole 3605 house 1004 of Ahab 256 shall perish 6, and I will cut 3772 off 3772 from Ahab 256 every 8366 male 8366 7023 person both bond 6113 and free 5800a in Israel 3478.

 9:9 ‘I will make 5414 the house 1004 of Ahab 256 like the house 1004 of Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat 5028, and like the house 1004 of Baasha 1201 the son 1121 of Ahijah 281.

 9:10 ‘The dogs 3611 shall eat 398 Jezebel 348 in the territory 2506 of Jezreel 3157, and none 369 shall bury 6912 [her].’” Then he opened 6605a the door 1817 and fled 5127.

 9:11 ¶ Now Jehu 3058 came 3318 out to the servants 5650 of his master 113, and one said 559 to him, “Is all well 7965? Why 4069 did this 2088 mad 7696 fellow 7696 come 935 to you?” And he said 559 to them, “You know 3045 [very well] the man 376 and his talk 7879.”

 9:12 They said 559, “It is a lie 8267, tell 5046 us now 4994.” And he said 559, “Thus 2088 and thus 2088 he said 559 to me, ‘Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, “I have anointed 4886 you king 4428 over 413 Israel 3478.”’”

 9:13 Then they hurried 4116 and each 376 man 376 took 3947 his garment 899b and placed 7760 it under 8478 him on the bare 1634 steps 4609b, and blew 8628 the trumpet 7782, saying 559, “Jehu 3058 is king 4427a!”

 9:14 ¶ So Jehu 3058 the son 1121 of Jehoshaphat 3092 the son 1121 of Nimshi 5250 conspired 7194 against 413 Joram 3141. Now Joram 3141 with all 3605 Israel 3478 was defending 8104 Ramoth-gilead 7433 against 4480 6440 Hazael 2371 king 4428 of Aram 758,

 9:15 but King 4428 Joram 3088 had returned 7725 to Jezreel 3157 to be healed 7495 of the wounds 4347 which 834 the Arameans 761 had inflicted 5221 on him when he fought 3898a with Hazael 2371 king 4428 of Aram 758. So Jehu 3058 said 559, “If 518 this is your mind 5315, [then] let no 408 one 6412a escape 6412a [or] leave 3318 4480 the city 5892b to go 1980 tell 5046 [it] in Jezreel 3157.”

 9:16 Then Jehu 3058 rode 7392 in a chariot 7392 and went 1980 to Jezreel 3157, for Joram 3141 was lying 7901 there 8033. Ahaziah 274 king 4428 of Judah 3063 had come 3381 down 3381 to see 7200 Joram 3141.

 9:17 ¶ Now the watchman 6822 was standing 5975 on the tower 4026 in Jezreel 3157 and he saw 7200 the company 8229 of Jehu 3058 as he came 935, and said 559, “I see 7200 a company 8229.” And Joram 3088 said 559, “Take 3947 a horseman 7395 and send 7971 him to meet 7122 them and let him say 559, ‘Is it peace 7965?’”

 9:18 So a horseman 7392 5483b went 1980 to meet 7122 him and said 559, “Thus 3541 says 559 the king 4428, ‘Is it peace 7965?’” And Jehu 3058 said 559, “What 4100 have you to do with peace 7965? Turn 5437 behind 413 310 me.” And the watchman 6822 reported 5046, “The messenger 4397 came 935 to them, but he did not return 7725.”

 9:19 Then he sent 7971 out a second 8145 horseman 7392 5483b, who came 935 to them and said 559, “Thus 3541 says 559 the king 4428, ‘Is it peace 7965?’” And Jehu 3058 answered 559, “What 4100 have you to do with peace 7965? Turn 5437 behind 413 310 me.”

 9:20 The watchman 6822 reported 5046, “He came 935 even 5704 to them, and he did not return 7725; and the driving 4491 is like the driving 4491 of Jehu 3058 the son 1121 of Nimshi 5250, for he drives 5090a furiously 7697.”

 9:21 ¶ Then Joram 3088 said 559, “Get 631 ready 631.” And they made 631 his chariot 7393 ready 631. Joram 3088 king 4428 of Israel 3478 and Ahaziah 274 king 4428 of Judah 3063 went 3318 out, each 376 in his chariot 7393, and they went 3318 out to meet 7122 Jehu 3058 and found 4672 him in the property 2513a of Naboth 5022 the Jezreelite 3158.

 9:22 When Joram 3088 saw 7200 Jehu 3058, he said 559, “Is it peace 7965, Jehu 3058?” And he answered 559, “What 4100 peace 7965, so 5704 long 5704 as the harlotries 2183 of your mother 517 Jezebel 348 and her witchcrafts 3785 are so many 7227a?”

 9:23 So Joram 3088 reined 2015 3027 about 2015 3027 and fled 5127 and said 559 to Ahaziah 274, “[There is] treachery 4820, O Ahaziah 274!”

 9:24 And Jehu 3058 drew 4390 his bow 7198 with his full 4390 strength 3027 and shot 5221 Joram 3088 between 996 his arms 2220; and the arrow 2678 went 3318 through 3318 his heart 3820 and he sank 3766 in his chariot 7393.

 9:25 Then [Jehu] said 559 to Bidkar 920 his officer 7991c, “Take 5375 [him] up and cast 7993 him into the property 2513a of the field 7704 of Naboth 5022 the Jezreelite 3158, for I remember 2142 when you and I were riding 7392 together 6776 after 310 Ahab 256 his father 1, that the LORD 3068 laid 5375 this 2088 oracle 4853b against 5921 him:

 9:26 ‘Surely 518 3808 I have seen 7200 yesterday 570 the blood 1818 of Naboth 5022 and the blood 1818 of his sons 1121,’ says 5002 the LORD 3068, ‘and I will repay 7999a you in this 2088 property 2513a,’ says 5002 the LORD 3068. Now 6258 then, take 5375 and cast 7993 him into the property 2513a, according to the word 1697 of the LORD 3068.”

 9:27 ¶ When Ahaziah 274 the king 4428 of Judah 3063 saw 7200 [this], he fled 5127 by the way 1870 of the garden 1588 house 1004. And Jehu 3058 pursued 7291 him and said 559, “Shoot 5221 him too 1571, in the chariot 4818.” [So they shot him] at the ascent 4608 of Gur 1483, which 834 is at Ibleam 2991. But he fled 5127 to Megiddo 4023b and died 4191 there 8033.

 9:28 Then his servants 5650 carried 7392 him in a chariot 7392 to Jerusalem 3389 and buried 6912 him in his grave 6900 with his fathers 1 in the city 5892b of David 1732.

 9:29 ¶ Now in the eleventh 259 6240 year 8141 of Joram 3141, the son 1121 of Ahab 256, Ahaziah 274 became 4427a king 4427a over 5921 Judah 3063.

 9:30 ¶ When Jehu 3058 came 935 to Jezreel 3157, Jezebel 348 heard 8085 [of it], and she painted 7760 6320 her eyes 5869 and adorned 3190 her head 7218 and looked 8259 out the window 2474.

 9:31 As Jehu 3058 entered 935 the gate 8179, she said 559, “Is it well 7965, Zimri 2174a, your master’s 113 murderer 2026?”

 9:32 Then he lifted 5375 up his face 6440 to the window 2474 and said 559, “Who 4310 is on my side 854? Who 4310?” And two 8147 or three 7969 officials 5631 looked 8259 down 8259 at him.

 9:33 He said 559, “Throw 8058 her down 8058.” So they threw 8058 her down 8058, and some 4480 of her blood 1818 was sprinkled 5137a on the wall 7023 and on the horses 5483b, and he trampled 7429 her under foot.

 9:34 When he came 935 in, he ate 398 and drank 8354; and he said 559, “See 6485 now 4994 to this 2088 cursed 779 woman 779 and bury 6912 her, for she is a king’s 4428 daughter 1323.”

 9:35 They went 1980 to bury 6912 her, but they found 4672 nothing 3808 more 3588 518 of her than 3588 518 the skull 1538 and the feet 7272 and the palms 3709 of her hands 3027.

 9:36 Therefore they returned 7725 and told 5046 him. And he said 559, “This 1931 is the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, which 834 He spoke 1696 by His servant 5650 Elijah 452 the Tishbite 8664b, saying 559, ‘In the property 2506 of Jezreel 3157 the dogs 3611 shall eat 398 the flesh 1320 of Jezebel 348;

 9:37 and the corpse 5038 of Jezebel 348 will be as dung 1828 on the face 6440 of the field 7704 in the property 2506 of Jezreel 3157, so 834 they cannot 3808 say 559, “This 2088 is Jezebel 348.”’”
