2 Kings 17

1 Hoshea his wicked reign. 3 Being subdued by Shalmaneser, he conspireth against him with So king of Egypt. 5 Samaria for their sins is captivated. 24 The strange nations, which were transplanted in Samaria, being plagued with lions, make a mixture of religions.

 17:1 In the twelfth 8147 6240 year 8141 of Ahaz 271 king 4428 of Judah 3063, Hoshea 1954 the son 1121 of Elah 425 became 4427a king 4427a over 5921 Israel 3478 in Samaria 8111, [and reigned] nine 8672 years 8141.

 17:2 He did 6213a evil 7451a in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068, only 7534 not as the kings 4428 of Israel 3478 who 834 were before 6440 him.

 17:3 Shalmaneser 8022 king 4428 of Assyria 804b came 5927 up against 5921 him, and Hoshea 1954 became 1961 his servant 5650 and paid 7725 him tribute 4503.

 17:4 But the king 4428 of Assyria 804b found 4672 conspiracy 7195 in Hoshea 1954, who 834 had sent 7971 messengers 4397 to So 5471 king 4428 of Egypt 4714 and had offered 5927 no 3808 tribute 4503 to the king 4428 of Assyria 804b, as [he had done] year 8141 by year 8141; so the king 4428 of Assyria 804b shut 6113 him up and bound 631 him in prison 1004 3608.

 17:5 ¶ Then the king 4428 of Assyria 804b invaded 5927 the whole 3605 land 776 and went 5927 up to Samaria 8111 and besieged 6696a 5921 it three 7969 years 8141.

 17:6 In the ninth 8671 year 8141 of Hoshea 1954, the king 4428 of Assyria 804b captured 3920 Samaria 8111 and carried 1540 Israel 3478 away 1540 into exile 1540 to Assyria 804b, and settled 3427 them in Halah 2477 and Habor 2249, [on] the river 5104 of Gozan 1470, and in the cities 5892b of the Medes 4074.

 17:7 ¶ Now [this] came 1961 about because 3588 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478 had sinned 2398 against the LORD 3068 their God 430, who had brought 5927 them up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714 from under 8478 the hand 3027 of Pharaoh 6547, king 4428 of Egypt 4714, and they had feared 3372a other 312 gods 430

 17:8 and walked 1980 in the customs 2708 of the nations 1471 whom 834 the LORD 3068 had driven 3423 out before 4480 6440 the sons 1121 of Israel 3478, and [in the customs] of the kings 4428 of Israel 3478 which 834 they had introduced 6213a.

 17:9 The sons 1121 of Israel 3478 did 2644 things 1697 secretly 2644 which 834 were not right 3653a against 5921 the LORD 3068 their God 430. Moreover, they built 1129 for themselves high 1116 places 1116 in all 3605 their towns 5892b, from watchtower 4026 to fortified 4013 city 5892b.

 17:10 They set 5324 for themselves [sacred] pillars 4676 and Asherim 842 on every 3605 high 1364 hill 1389 and under 8478 every 3605 green 7488 tree 6086,

 17:11 and there 8033 they burned 6999 incense 6999 on all 3605 the high 1116 places 1116 as the nations 1471 [did] which 834 the LORD 3068 had carried 1540 away 1540 to exile 1540 before 4480 6440 them; and they did 6213a evil 7451a things 1697 provoking 3707 the LORD 3068.

 17:12 They served 5647 idols 1544, concerning which 834 the LORD 3068 had said 559 to them, “You shall not do 6213a this 2088 thing 1697.”

 17:13 Yet the LORD 3068 warned 5749b Israel 3478 and Judah 3063 through 3027 all 3605 His prophets 5030 [and] every 3605 seer 2374, saying 559, “Turn 7725 from your evil 7451a ways 1870 and keep 8104 My commandments 4687, My statutes 2708 according to all 3605 the law 8451 which 834 I commanded 6680 your fathers 1, and which 834 I sent 7971 to you through 3027 My servants 5650 the prophets 5030.”

 17:14 However, they did not listen 8085, but stiffened 7185 their neck 6203 like their fathers 1, who 834 did not believe 539 in the LORD 3068 their God 430.

 17:15 They rejected 3988a His statutes 2706 and His covenant 1285 which 834 He made 3772 with their fathers 1 and His warnings 5715 with which 834 He warned 5749b them. And they followed 1980 310 vanity 1892 and became 1891 vain 1891, and [went] after 310 the nations 1471 which 834 surrounded 5439 them, concerning which 834 the LORD 3068 had commanded 6680 them not to do 6213a like them.

 17:16 They forsook 5800a all 3605 the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 their God 430 and made 6213a for themselves molten 4541a images 4541a, [even] two 8147 calves 5695, and made 6213a an Asherah 842 and worshiped 7812 all 3605 the host 6635 of heaven 8064 and served 5647 Baal 1168a.

 17:17 Then they made their sons 1121 and their daughters 1323 pass 5674a through the fire 784, and practiced 7080 divination 7081 and enchantments 5172, and sold 4376 themselves to do 6213a evil 7451a in the sight 5869 of the LORD 3068, provoking 3707 Him.

 17:18 So the LORD 3068 was very 3966 angry 599 with Israel 3478 and removed 5493 them from His sight 6440; none 3808 was left 7604 except 7534 905 the tribe 7626 of Judah 3063.

 17:19 ¶ Also 1571 Judah 3063 did not keep 8104 the commandments 4687 of the LORD 3068 their God 430, but walked 1980 in the customs 2708 which 834 Israel 3478 had introduced 6213a.

 17:20 The LORD 3068 rejected 3988a all 3605 the descendants 2233 of Israel 3478 and afflicted 6031a them and gave 5414 them into the hand 3027 of plunderers 8154, until 5704 834 He had cast 7993 them out of His sight 6440.

 17:21 ¶ When 3588 He had torn 7167 Israel 3478 from the house 1004 of David 1732, they made 4427a Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat 5028 king 4427a. Then Jeroboam 3379 drove 5067b Israel 3478 away 5067b from following 310 the LORD 3068 and made them commit 2398 a great 1419 sin 2401.

 17:22 The sons 1121 of Israel 3478 walked 1980 in all 3605 the sins 2403b of Jeroboam 3379 which 834 he did 6213a; they did not depart 5493 from them

 17:23 until 5704 834 the LORD 3068 removed 5493 Israel 3478 from His sight 6440, as He spoke 1696 through 3027 all 3605 His servants 5650 the prophets 5030. So Israel 3478 was carried 1540 away 1540 into exile 1540 from their own land 127 to Assyria 804b until 5704 this 2088 day 3117.

 17:24 ¶ The king 4428 of Assyria 804b brought 935 [men] from Babylon 894 and from Cuthah 3575 and from Avva 5755 and from Hamath 2574 and Sepharvaim 5617, and settled 3427 [them] in the cities 5892b of Samaria 8111 in place 8478 of the sons 1121 of Israel 3478. So they possessed 3423 Samaria 8111 and lived 3427 in its cities 5892b.

 17:25 At the beginning 8462 of their living 3427 there 8033, they did not fear 3372a the LORD 3068; therefore the LORD 3068 sent 7971 lions 738 among them which killed 2026 some of them.

 17:26 So they spoke 559 to the king 4428 of Assyria 804b, saying 559, “The nations 1471 whom 834 you have carried 1540 away 1540 into exile 1540 in the cities 5892b of Samaria 8111 do not know 3045 the custom 4941 of the god 430 of the land 776; so he has sent 7971 lions 738 among them, and behold 2009, they kill 4191 them because 834 they do not know 3045 the custom 4941 of the god 430 of the land 776.”

 17:27 ¶ Then the king 4428 of Assyria 804b commanded 6680, saying 559, “Take 1980 there 8033 one 259 of the priests 3548 whom 834 you carried 1540 away 1540 into exile 1540 and let him go 1980 and live 3427 there 8033; and let him teach 3384 them the custom 4941 of the god 430 of the land 776.”

 17:28 So one 259 of the priests 3548 whom 834 they had carried 1540 away 1540 into exile 1540 from Samaria 8111 came 935 and lived 3427 at Bethel 1008, and taught 3384 them how 349 they should fear 3372a the LORD 3068.

 17:29 ¶ But every 1471 nation 1471 still made 6213a gods 430 of its own and put 5117 them in the houses 1004 of the high 1116 places 1116 which 834 the people 8118 of Samaria 8118 had made 6213a, every 1471 nation 1471 in their cities 5892b in which 834 they lived 3427.

 17:30 The men 376 of Babylon 894 made 6213a Succoth-benoth 5524, the men 376 of Cuth 3575 made 6213a Nergal 5370, the men 376 of Hamath 2574 made 6213a Ashima 807,

 17:31 and the Avvites 5757 made 6213a Nibhaz 5026 and Tartak 8662; and the Sepharvites 5616 burned 8313 their children 1121 in the fire 784 to Adrammelech 152 and Anammelech 6048 the gods 430 of Sepharvaim 5617.

 17:32 They also feared 3372a the LORD 3068 and appointed 6213a from among 7098 themselves priests 3548 of the high 1116 places 1116, who acted 6213a for them in the houses 1004 of the high 1116 places 1116.

 17:33 They feared 3372a the LORD 3068 and served 5647 their own gods 430 according to the custom 4941 of the nations 1471 from among whom 834 they had been carried 1540 away 1540 into exile 1540.

 17:34 ¶ To this 2088 day 3117 they do 6213a according to the earlier 7223 customs 4941: they do not fear 3372a the LORD 3068, nor 369 do they follow 6213a their statutes 2708 or their ordinances 4941 or the law 8451, or the commandments 4687 which 834 the LORD 3068 commanded 6680 the sons 1121 of Jacob 3290, whom 834 He named 7760 8034 Israel 3478;

 17:35 with whom the LORD 3068 made 3772 a covenant 1285 and commanded 6680 them, saying 559, “You shall not fear 3372a other 312 gods 430, nor 3808 bow 7812 down 7812 yourselves to them nor 3808 serve 5647 them nor 3808 sacrifice 2076 to them.

 17:36 “But the LORD 3068, who 834 brought 5927 you up from the land 776 of Egypt 4714 with great 1419 power 3581b and with an outstretched 5186 arm 2220, Him you shall fear 3372a, and to Him you shall bow 7812 yourselves down 7812, and to Him you shall sacrifice 2076.

 17:37 “The statutes 2706 and the ordinances 4941 and the law 8451 and the commandment 4687 which 834 He wrote 3789 for you, you shall observe 8104 to do 6213a forever 3605 3117; and you shall not fear 3372a other 312 gods 430.

 17:38 “The covenant 1285 that I have made 3772 with you, you shall not forget 7911, nor 3808 shall you fear 3372a other 312 gods 430.

 17:39 “But the LORD 3068 your God 430 you shall fear 3372a; and He will deliver 5337 you from the hand 3027 of all 3605 your enemies 340.”

 17:40 However, they did not listen 8085, but they did 6213a according to their earlier 7223 custom 4941.

 17:41 So while these 428 nations 1471 feared 3372a the LORD 3068, they also served 5647 their idols 6456; their children 1121 likewise 1571 and their grandchildren 1121, as their fathers 1 did 6213a, so they do 6213a to this 2088 day 3117.
