2 Kings 2

1 Elijah, taking his leave of Elisha, with his mantle divideth Jordan, 9 and, granting Elisha his request, is taken up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 Elisha, dividing Jordan with Elijah's mantle, is acknowledged his successor. 16 The young prophets, hardly obtaining leave to seek Elijah, could not find him. 19 Elisha with salt healeth the unwholesome waters. 23 Bears destroy the children that mocked Elisha.

 2:1 And it came 1961 about when the LORD 3068 was about to take 5927 up Elijah 452 by a whirlwind 5591b to heaven 8064, that Elijah 452 went 1980 with Elisha 477 from Gilgal 1537.

 2:2 Elijah 452 said 559 to Elisha 477, “Stay 3427 here 6311 please 4994, for the LORD 3068 has sent 7971 me as far 5704 as Bethel 1008.” But Elisha 477 said 559, “As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a and as you yourself 5315 live 2416a, I will not leave 5800a you.” So they went 3381 down 3381 to Bethel 1008.

 2:3 Then the sons 1121 of the prophets 5030 who 834 [were at] Bethel 1008 came 3318 out to Elisha 477 and said 559 to him, “Do you know 3045 that the LORD 3068 will take 3947 away your master 113 from over 5921 you today 3117?” And he said 559, “Yes 1571, I know 3045; be still 2814.”

 2:4 ¶ Elijah 452 said 559 to him, “Elisha 477, please 4994 stay 3427 here 6311, for the LORD 3068 has sent 7971 me to Jericho 3405.” But he said 559, “As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a, and as you yourself 5315 live 2416a, I will not leave 5800a you.” So they came 935 to Jericho 3405.

 2:5 The sons 1121 of the prophets 5030 who 834 [were] at Jericho 3405 approached 5066 Elisha 477 and said 559 to him, “Do you know 3045 that the LORD 3068 will take 3947 away your master 113 from over 5921 you today 3117?” And he answered 559, “Yes 1571, I know 3045; be still 2814.”

 2:6 Then Elijah 452 said 559 to him, “Please 4994 stay 3427 here 6311, for the LORD 3068 has sent 7971 me to the Jordan 3383.” And he said 559, “As the LORD 3068 lives 2416a, and as you yourself 5315 live 2416a, I will not leave 5800a you.” So the two 8147 of them went 1980 on.

 2:7 ¶ Now fifty 2572 men 376 of the sons 1121 of the prophets 5030 went 1980 and stood 5975 opposite 4480 5048 [them] at a distance 7350, while the two 8147 of them stood 5975 by the Jordan 3383.

 2:8 Elijah 452 took 3947 his mantle 155 and folded 1563 it together 1563 and struck 5221 the waters 4325, and they were divided 2673 here 2008 and there 2008, so that the two 8147 of them crossed 5674a over 5674a on dry 2724 ground 2724.

 2:9 ¶ When they had crossed 5674a over 5674a, Elijah 452 said 559 to Elisha 477, “Ask 7592 what 4100 I shall do 6213a for you before 2962 I am taken 3947 from you.” And Elisha 477 said 559, “Please 4994, let a double 8147 portion 6310 of your spirit 7307 be upon me.”

 2:10 He said 559, “You have asked 7592 a hard 7185 thing 7185. [Nevertheless], if 518 you see 7200 me when I am taken 3947 from you, it shall be so 3651 for you; but if 518 not, it shall not be [so].”

 2:11 As they were going 1980 along and talking 1696, behold 2009, [there appeared] a chariot 7393 of fire 784 and horses 5483b of fire 784 which separated 6504 the two 8147 of them. And Elijah 452 went 5927 up by a whirlwind 5591b to heaven 8064.

 2:12 Elisha 477 saw 7200 [it] and cried 6817 out, “My father 1, my father 1, the chariots 7393 of Israel 3478 and its horsemen 6571b!” And he saw 7200 Elijah no 3808 more 5750. Then he took 2388 hold 2388 of his own clothes 899b and tore 7167 them in two 8147 pieces 7168.

 2:13 He also took 7311 up the mantle 155 of Elijah 452 that fell 5307 from him and returned 7725 and stood 5975 by the bank 8193 of the Jordan 3383.

 2:14 He took 3947 the mantle 155 of Elijah 452 that fell 5307 from him and struck 5221 the waters 4325 and said 559, “Where 346 is the LORD 3068, the God 430 of Elijah 452?” And when he also 637 had struck 5221 the waters 4325, they were divided 2673 here 2008 and there 2008; and Elisha 477 crossed 5674a over 5674a.

 2:15 ¶ Now when the sons 1121 of the prophets 5030 who 834 [were] at Jericho 3405 opposite 4480 5048 [him] saw 7200 him, they said 559, “The spirit 7307 of Elijah 452 rests 5117 on Elisha 477.” And they came 935 to meet 7122 him and bowed 7812 themselves to the ground 776 before him.

 2:16 They said 559 to him, “Behold 2009 now 4994, there 3426 are with your servants 5650 fifty 2572 strong 2428 men 376, please 4994 let them go 1980 and search 1245 for your master 113; perhaps 6435 the Spirit 7307 of the LORD 3068 has taken 5375 him up and cast 7993 him on some 259 mountain 2022 or 176 into some 259 valley 1516.” And he said 559, “You shall not send 7971.”

 2:17 But when they urged 6484 him until 5704 he was ashamed 954, he said 559, “Send 7971.” They sent 7971 therefore fifty 2572 men 376; and they searched 1245 three 7969 days 3117 but did not find 4672 him.

 2:18 They returned 7725 to him while he was staying 3427 at Jericho 3405; and he said 559 to them, “Did I not say 559 to you, ‘Do not go 1980’?”

 2:19 ¶ Then the men 376 of the city 5892b said 559 to Elisha 477, “Behold 2009 now, the situation 4186 of this city 5892b is pleasant 2896a, as my lord 113 sees 7200; but the water 4325 is bad 7451a and the land 776 is unfruitful 7921.”

 2:20 He said 559, “Bring 3947 me a new 2319 jar 6746, and put 7760 salt 4417 in it.” So they brought 3947 [it] to him.

 2:21 He went 3318 out to the spring 4161 of water 4325 and threw 7993 salt 4417 in it and said 559, “Thus 3541 says 559 the LORD 3068, ‘I have purified 7495 these 428 waters 4325; there shall not be from there 8033 death 4194 or unfruitfulness 7921 any 5750 longer 5750.’”

 2:22 So the waters 4325 have been purified 7495 to this 2088 day 3117, according to the word 1697 of Elisha 477 which 834 he spoke 1696.

 2:23 ¶ Then he went 5927 up from there 8033 to Bethel 1008; and as he was going 5927 up by the way 1870, young 6996a lads 5288 came 3318 out from the city 5892b and mocked 7046 him and said 559 to him, “Go 5927 up, you baldhead 7142; go 5927 up, you baldhead 7142!”

 2:24 When he looked 6437 behind 310 him and saw 7200 them, he cursed 7043 them in the name 8034 of the LORD 3068. Then two 8147 female bears 1677 came 3318 out of the woods 3293a and tore 1234 up forty-two 705 8147 lads 3206 of their number.

 2:25 He went 1980 from there 8033 to Mount 2022 Carmel 3760, and from there 8033 he returned 7725 to Samaria 8111.
