 18:1 ¶ The priests, the Levites, even the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; the burnt-offerings of the Lord [are] their inheritance, they shall eat them.

 18:1 ¶ The priestsº the Levites,º [and] allº the tribeº of Levi,º shall haveº noº partº nor inheritanceº withº Israel:º they shall eatºº the offeringsºº of Yahwehº made by fire,ºº and his inheritance.º

 18:2 And they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the Lord himself [is] his portion, as he said to him.

 18:2 Therefore shall they haveº noº inheritanceº amongº their brethren:º Yahwehº [is] their inheritance,º asº he hath saidºº unto them.

 18:3 ¶ And this [is] the due of the priests in the things coming from the people from those who offer sacrifices, whether it be a calf or a sheep; and thou shalt give the shoulder to the priest, and the cheeks, and the great intestine:

 18:3 ¶ And thisº shall beº the priest'sº dueº fromºº the people,º fromºº them that offerºº a sacrifice,º whetherº [it be] oxº orº sheep;º and they shall giveºº unto the priestº the shoulder,º and the two cheeks,º and the maw.º

 18:4 and the first-fruits of thy corn, and of thy wine, and of thine oil; and thou shalt give to him the first-fruits of the fleeces of thy sheep:

 18:4 The firstfruitº [also] of thy corn,º of thy wine,º and of thine oil,º and the firstº of the fleeceº of thy sheep,º shalt thou giveºº him.

 18:5 because the Lord has chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand before the Lord thy God, to minister and bless in his name, himself and his sons among the children of Israel.

 18:5 Forº Yahwehº thy Elohimº hath chosenºº him out of allºº thy tribes,º to standºº to ministerºº in the nameº of Yahweh,º himº and his sonsº for ever.ºº

 18:6 ¶ And if a Levite come from one of the cities of all the children of Israel, where he himself dwells, accordingly as his mind desires, to the place which he shall have chosen,

 18:6 ¶ And ifº a Leviteº comeºº from anyºº of thy gatesº out of allºº Israel,º whereºº heº sojourned,ºº and comeºº with allº the desireº of his mindº untoº the placeº whichº Yahwehº shall choose;ºº

 18:7 he shall minister to the name of the Lord his God, as all his brethren the Levites, who stand there present before the Lord thy God.

 18:7 Then he shall ministerºº in the nameº of Yahwehº his Elohim,º as allº his brethrenº the Levitesº [do], which standºº thereº beforeº Yahweh.º

 18:8 He shall eat an allotted portion, besides the sale of his hereditary property.

 18:8 They shall have like portionsº to eat,ºº besideº that which cometh of the saleºº ofº his patrimony.º

 18:9 ¶ And when thou shalt have entered into the land which the Lord thy God gives thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.

 18:9 ¶ Whenº thouº art comeºº intoº the landº whichº Yahwehº thy Elohimº givethºº thee, thou shalt notº learnºº to doºº after the abominationsº of thoseº nations.º

 18:10 There shall not be found in thee one who purges his son or his daughter with fire, one who uses divination, who deals with omens, and augury,

 18:10 There shall notº be foundºº among you [any one] that maketh his sonº or his daughterº to passºº throughº the fire,º [or] that usethºº divination,º [or] an observer of times,ºº or an enchanter,ºº or a witch,ºº

 18:11 a sorcerer employing incantation, one who has in him a divining spirit, and observer of signs, questioning the dead.

 18:11 Or a charmer,ººº or a consulterºº with familiar spirits,º or a wizard,º or a necromancer.ººººº

 18:12 For every one that does these things is an abomination to the Lord thy God; for because of these abominations the Lord will destroy them from before thy face.

 18:12 Forº allº that doºº these thingsº [are] an abominationº unto Yahweh:º and becauseº of theseº abominationsº Yahwehº thy Elohimº doth drive them outººº from beforeºº thee.

 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect before the Lord thy God.

 18:13 Thou shalt beº perfectº withº Yahwehº thy Elohim.º

 18:14 For all these nations whose [land] thou shalt inherit, they will listen to omens and divinations; but the Lord thy God has not permitted thee so [to do].

 18:14 Forº theseº nations,º whichº thouº shalt possess,ººº hearkenedºº untoº observers of times,ºº and untoº diviners:ºº but as for thee,º Yahwehº thy Elohimº hath notº sufferedºº thee soº [to do].

 18:15 ¶ The Lord thy God shall raise up to thee a prophet of thy brethren, like me; him shall ye hear:

 18:15 ¶ Yahwehº thy Elohimº will raise upºº unto thee a Prophetº from the midstºº of thee, of thy brethren,ºº like unto me;º untoº him ye shall hearken;ºº

 18:16 according to all things which thou didst desire of the Lord thy God in Horeb{gr.Choreb} in the day of the assembly, saying, We will not again hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and we will not any more see this great fire, and [so] we shall not die.

 18:16 According to allº thatº thou desiredstºº ofºº Yahwehº thy Elohimº in Horebº in the dayº of the assembly,º saying,ºº Let me notº hearºº againººº the voiceº of Yahwehº my Elohim,º neitherº let me seeºº thisº greatº fireº any more,º that I dieºº not.º

 18:17 And the Lord said to me, They have spoken rightly all that they have said to thee.

 18:17 And Yahwehº saidºº untoº me, They have wellºº [spoken that] whichº they have spoken.ºº

 18:18 I will raise up to them a prophet of their brethren, like thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them as I shall command him.

 18:18 I will raise them upºº a Prophetº from amongºº their brethren,º like unto thee,º and will putºº my wordsº in his mouth;º and he shall speakºº untoº themº allº thatº I shall commandºº him.

 18:19 And whatever man shall not hearken to whatsoever words that prophet shall speak in my name, I will take vengeance on him.

 18:19 And it shall come to pass,º [that] whosoeverºº will notº hearkenºº untoº my wordsº whichº he shall speakºº in my name,º Iº will requireºº [it] ofºº him.

 18:20 But the prophet whosoever shall impiously speak in my name a word which I have not commanded him to speak, and whosoever shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.

 18:20 Butº the prophet,º whichº shall presumeºº to speakºº a wordº in my name,ºº whichº I have notº commandedºº him to speak,ºº or thatº shall speakºº in the nameº of otherº elohim,º even thatº prophetº shall die.ºº

 18:21 But if thou shalt say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?

 18:21 And ifº thou sayºº in thine heart,º Howº shall we knowººº the wordº whichº Yahwehº hath notº spoken?ºº

 18:22 Whatsoever words that prophet shall speak in the name of the Lord, and they shall not come true, and not come to pass, this [is] the thing which the Lord has not spoken; that prophet has spoken wickedly: ye shall not spare him.

 18:22 Whenº a prophetº speakethºº in the nameº of Yahweh,º if the thingº followº not,º norº come to pass,ºº thatº [is] the thingº whichº Yahwehº hath notº spoken,ºº [but] the prophetº hath spokenºº it presumptuously:º thou shalt notº be afraidºº ofº him.
